Book Description
The export of American architecture began in the nineteenth century as a disjointed set of personal adventures and commercial initiatives. It continues today alongside the transfer of other aspects of American life and culture to most regions of the world. Jeffrey Cody explains how, why and where American architects, planners, building contractors and other actors have marketed American architecture overseas. In so doing he provides a historical perspective on the diffusion of American building technologies, architectural standards, construction methods and planning paradigms. Using previously undocumented examples and illustrations, he shows how steel-frame manufacturers shipped their products abroad enabling the erection of American-style skyscrapers worldwide by 1900 and how this phase was followed by similar initiatives by companies manufacturing concrete components.

Book Description
The characters from manga-or Japanese comics-have begun to dominate the world of kids' cartoons and comics. Now kids can learn to draw their own manga-style characters with Kids Draw Manga, the newest addition to the Kids Draw series. Young artists will find a complete introduction to the basics of manga style, from the well-known shiny eye to manga-style noses, mouths, and body types. Pages of step-by-step drawings offer a diverse range of cool manga characters with appeal to both boys and girls, including a basic manga girl and boy, a schoolgirl, a mysterious swordsman, a hero knight, a flying robot soldier, and a laser fighter. More elaborate manga characters, like a spaceship commander and a dark-magic sorceress, are offered for kids who are either older or have worked through the book and are ready for the next level. As in all Kids Draw books, each dazzling spread is easy to follow, fun to look at, and guaranteed to charm a new generation of artists!
Customer Reviews:
A good start, but..........2007-06-13
I was completely terrible at drawing, but I wanted to learn how to construct manga characters. This book is good for basics, a few eye shapes, head and body shapes, basic motion. There's even a bit on robots, so mostly what I expected. My only qualm, no mention of hair or clothing technique. Now, I've only had it a day, and I can spit out a generic face. Also, I can draw a much nicer circle.
Don't delude yourself into thinking this is authentic........2006-02-27
My sister had bought this book because she was interested in drawing manga a small bit. I flipped through the pages and found it very misleading for a "manga" instruction book.
First off, this isn't manga; though it may seem very stylistic and similar to the real thing it's not showing you how to draw manga, it's showing you how to draw American cartoons. The reason that it's not manga is that they pinpoints in the style of Japanese comics were missed a bit. The eyes were probably the worst aspect of this book being "fake", they were opaque circles with random shines within them--all style, no substance. The hairstyles did not show diversity, all spikey, while real anime/manga hairstyles had meaning to them or certain patterns. The sections on drawing character stereotypes were very pointless and long, considering that the author could have just written "here are the features of a [insert anime stereotype(s)]" insteading of having a detailed instruction that wasn't even necessary.
The best aspect of this book was the detailed instruction to drawing anatomy and proportions, not manga. That seemed to be the only somewhat useful part in the book.
Overall, this book receives about a 15% in grades, not good. If you're looking for an introduction to drawing MANGA, buy Katy Coope's book, but if you're looking for a simplified version of drawing anatomy and proportions, buy this--don't let "manga" in the title delude you into thinking that it is the real thing.
Excellent Manga.......2005-12-22
Excellent book, excellent drawings, great instruction. Christopher Hart shows the development of his drawings in a clear, step by step fashion, allowing you to see his thought process. This is fun for the whole family.
Great book for beginners.......2005-10-24
I bought this book for my daughter who is 12, and she loves it. She said it has helped her learn how to draw Manga character arms, hands, and facial expressions better. It is easy to follow with lots of examples.
fantastic.......2004-07-24
I loved this book for its innovative way of simplifying with out loosing the creativity.
Basic four to six steps to creating the figure, motion & expression that makes up the character. Brining the book home instantly drew kids from our neighborhood to our kitchen table where they all gathered around for a morning full of fantasy. I'll probably back to purchase another one of the series soon.
Book Description
Kids flock to mangathey watch the television shows, they go to the movies, they carry the licensed products everywhere. And the most popular manga of all is manga shoujo (pronounces MAHN-gah SHOW-jo), a clean-lined style with stories about friends, romance, school, and magic. Girls love it, boys love it, and parents love it, too, because it's bright, cheerful, and appealing. Kids Draw Manga Shoujo starts with basic heads, faces, bodies, and costumes, then goes on to show dozens of high-energy characters in Christopher Hart's easy-to-follow step-by-step drawings and clear, engaging text. Teens, school kids, magical girls and boys, fairies, elves, demigods, and goddesses are all part of the world of manga shoujoand now kids everywhere can be part of that world with Kids Draw Manga Shoujo.
Customer Reviews:
This is not manga........2006-08-16
Being a manga artist myself, I must declare- Hart is not a manga artist. His work is just mere cartoon with a little touch of manga. Before buying this book, I advise you to look inside. If you are going to buy this book for your child as most people do, then buy one of the HTDM (How To Draw Manga). If you present this as a first manga book for your child whatsoever, then it will just ruin his or her art style.
As of what I have seen, this book will attempt to make you or your children copy his mere artwork. All of his steps are exactly like many other manga books, only the art is much much worse.
My final line is, I DEFINITELY do NOT reccommend this book. If I could, I would have rated this 0 stars. If I was him, I wouldn't go selling books before I learn more about Manga.
To western!.......2005-12-24
I am a huge shoujo fan and this is deppressing. The art in this book doesn't even LOOK like manga. Even a begginer can figure that out. I mean I showed this book to my friend who doesn't even like manga and she could even figure out that Hart is terrible at manga. Beggieners or advance stay away! Instead of wasteing your money on this dinky little 60 paged book try the how to draw manga series. You might accually LEARN how to draw real manga!
Do something smart, buy this book.......2005-12-22
I like Manga, as do my children. We have bought other Manga Shoujo books but we prefer this one, by far. We enjoyed the drawings, the step by step instruction and how Christopher Hart captures the Manga Shoujo attitude. Our family really enjoyed this book.
how NOT to draw manga shoujo!.......2005-12-04
Well the only words that describe this book is.Cheap,Pethetic,Crappy,Not helpful and american.Be smart. Don't buy this book.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent.......2007-01-03
I teach art and have had many requests to teach anime. I don't draw in the anime/manga style and struggled to do so. Christopher Hart's book is a great tie-in or introduction to Fantasy Manga. His style is similiar to mine in that it is a bit more cartoony than traditional anime/manga style. While some people might criticize the book for that, I think it's an awesome book with lots of color pictures. It even had some tips and tricks I didn't know. It would be useful for a beginner or a resource for someone more experienced. If you are looking to draw like someone else or in the more traditional style of anime/manga then this book is not for you. But if you are looking to develop your own style or like the more Americanized look to your anime/manga drawing then I would highly recommend it!
fantasy rocks.......2006-04-23
Motivating for the young beginner cartoonist. My kids loved this easy to follow instructive book. Fantasy goes wild with just a few tips and direction. Beginning with the basic figures, adding hair styles, eye shapes & general body posture brings the magna life & character. Many examples to follow or just be inspired by makes this book a fantastic entertaining guide to manga drawing

I liked the whole book my favorite part is when Daniel learns how to do Karate. I really did not have any dislikes because the whole book because I liked the book.
People that like action and fighting books this would be the perfect book for you. Also if you like passionate novels this would be a good love story and if you like books that people play pranks this would be a good book for you.
I can't match this book with any other book but Artimis-fowl because they are both action adventure and they are very good books.

The Karate Kid.......2000-03-27
The Karate Kid is a book that people need to read. Despite having a slightly corny storyline, I thoughouly enjoyed reading it. It ahs all the elements that make a good book. There is the hilarity of Mr. Miyagi, the love story of Ali and Daniel, and the conflict between Daniel and Johnny. The basic storyline here is that Daniel, the main character, moves reluctantly with his mother, Lucille, to California. On his second day there he meets and falls in love with a girl named Ali. He then gets in a fight with his new nemisis Johnny. Throughout the course of the book, Daniek and Johnny are fighting, Ali and Daniel have their ups and downs, and all this leads up to a karate tournament. While all this is happening Daniel meets a funny little old man named Mr. Miyagi who will eventually teach Daniel karate, among other things. This book is packed full of fun and no one should skip reading it.

A Great Book!!!.......2001-07-13
This well written books follows nine year old David and his best friend, Georgie, through their once a week karate classes. Young readers will learn that a dojo is the name for the studio, an obi is the color belt worn and that a senei is a teacher. Blocking, sparring, punching are taught with respect for your opponent. The books ends with David and Georgie taking and passing their green belt tests. This is a great first look at a karate class for children. It would be good for parents to buy for a child, boy OR girl, who is thinking about join this wonderful sport.
