Laith, MD Gulli , and Nicole, MS Mallory Manufacturer: Thomson Gale ProductGroup: Book Binding: Digital ASIN: B000M5B09S |
Book Description
Information on many genetic disorders, and the frequent new findings on them, has been extremely difficult to come by—until now. The “Gale Encyclopedia of Genetic Disorders” addresses the need for current, hard-to-find facts on emerging discoveries. The two-volume Encyclopedia, presented in a single alphabetical sequence, provides clear, complete information on genetic disorders, including conditions, tests, procedures, treatments and therapies, in articles that are both comprehensive and easy to understand, in language accessible to laypersons. The articles are arranged in a standardized format for quick comparison and ease of use, while non-disorder topics are covered in detail with extended entries. Students will want to consult the “Gale Encyclopedia of Genetic Disorders” for useful information on a range of well known disorders, including Down Syndrome, Trisomy, Hemophilia and Tourette Syndrome, and rarely seen diseases such as Meckel Syndrome, Neuraminidase Deficiency and Phenylketonuria.

Investigation and Application of Recent Web-Based Technologies to the Teaching of Electrical Engineering Courses
Manufacturer: Storming Media ProductGroup: Book Binding: Spiral-bound ASIN: 1423552059 |
Product Description
This is a NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL MONTEREY CA report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A345873. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: This thesis is part of an effort by the Department of Electrical and Computer (ECE) Engineering to implement distributed learning to better serve its students. Distributed learning is especially useful for a modem technologically- oriented military, which is geographically distributed. The goal of this thesis is to develop a prototype web-based course, specifically, EC2820 - Digital Logic Design. A primary sub-goal is to quantify time required and to understand the tradeoffs involved. A secondary sub-goal is to evaluate web page tools.

Non-equilibrium Processing of Materials (Pergamon Materials Series)
C. Suryanarayana Manufacturer: Pergamon ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0080426972 |
Book Description
The rapid technological developments during the later half of the 20th century have demanded materials that are stronger, capable of use at much higher temperatures, more corrosion-resistant, and much less expensive than those currently used. These demands become even more significant on the threshold of the new century and the millennium. Significant improvements in properties can only be achieved by processing the materials under far-from-equilibrium (or non-equilibrium) conditions. Several new processing technologies have been developed during the past few decades including, rapid solidification, spray forming, mechanical alloying, ion mixing, vapor deposition, laser processing and plasma processing.Remarkable advances have been made in recent years in the science and technology of these processes used to synthesize, characterize, and apply these materials processed under non-equilibrium conditions. Some of these techniques have evolved from laboratory curiosity to commercial-scale manufacturing in just a few years. In other cases, industrial necessity prompted development of the technology, and the science followed later.
The chapters in this book have been written by people who are world-recognized experts in their respective fields. Each chapter describes the principles, processing techniques, special features of the materials produced, and their applications. An extensive list of references is provided at the end of each chapter that will facilitate location of additional information on specific aspects of any technique.

Theory of Solidification
Stephen H. Davis Manufacturer: Cambridge University Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0521650801 |
Book Description
The processes of freezing and melting were present at the beginnings of the Earth and continue to dominate the natural and industrial worlds. The solidification of a liquid or the melting of a solid involves a complex interplay of many physical effects. This book systematically presents the field of continuum solidification theory based on instability phenomena. An understanding of the physics is developed by using examples of increasing complexity with the object of creating a deep physical insight applicable to more complex problems. Applied mathematicians, engineers, physicists, and materials scientists will all find this volume of interest.Download Description

A Christian Approach to Overcoming Disability: A Doctor's Story
Elaine Leong Eng Manufacturer: Haworth Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 0789022583 |
Book Description
Learn how faith and psychological insight can combine to help Christians overcome physical disabilities! After being diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, Dr. Elaine Leong Eng, author of "Martha, Martha": How Christians Worry, knew she had to make important life changes. This genetic disease would soon cause her eyesight to fail. Her impending blindness meant that she would no longer be able to practice as an obstetrician/gynecologist. Her family life would never be the same, nor would her self-image. A Christian Approach to Overcoming Disability: A Doctor's Story is the poignant and inspiring story of Dr. Eng's ultimately triumphant struggle with an untreatable illness and a life-changing disability.
Once I heard the diagnosis, I knew it was God's way of granting my prayer to be a full-time mom to my babies. God had prepared my heart to accept this news. This so-called "tragedy" in my life was very much for the good. I had the chance to "see" and care for my children during those precious young years. To play with them, sing songs, teach them, feed them, and do all those wonderful mothering things that many take for granted. And now that they are grown, I can see in my mind's eye all those great images and memories. I enjoyed motherhood so much that I would not have changed my life in any way if given the chance.
This autobiographical book articulates the challenges faced by the blind and offers faith-based and psychological techniques for coping with disability. It highlights dozens of Scriptural passages that can provide an important foundation for coping, and draws upon Dr. Eng's experience as a psychiatrist to identify important issues and feelings about blindness and its psychological and emotional impact on every aspect of life.
In this insightful book, you'll find:
firsthand information about the experience of becoming disabled, and about living with, even celebrating, that disability and the new opportunities it presents
insight about what family, friends, students, and colleagues go through when someone close to them becomes disabled biblical references that demonstrate the importance of God in meeting physical challenges important scriptural foundations for coping practical techniques for coping with disabilityfrom both religious and psychological perspectives advice on overcoming the feeling of being "damaged goods" and other problems of self-esteem common to the disabled
A Christian Approach to Overcoming Disability will inspire you with its message of hope. It offers insights about finding inner peace no matter what hand life has dealt you and making the most of whatever God has planned for your life. Anyone who knows a Christian who has any type of physical disability will benefit from reading this book.
