Book Description
The secret to creating funky sizzles and classic Hammond sounds is mastering the combined use of the drawbars, expression pedal, and the Leslie speaker speed switch. Sound intimidating? It doesn't have to be! This hands-on guide takes you step-by-step through the techniques of playing the drawbar organ, one skill at a time. You'll learn to: play gospel, R&B, jazz, blues, funk and rock; achieve fantastic special effects; understand all the parts of the organ and how to use them; and much more. The accompanying CD includes 21 exercises, plus performance demos of 8 songs, with minus-organ versions so you can jam along!
Customer Reviews:
Enough information to get you started on the hammond (and cool CD).......2007-09-22
I have this book, (not like the reviewer who gave it 1 star without reading or owning the book)and I think it's full of interesting information regarding functions and controls on a hammond organ, various playing techniques and the concept and theory behind creating registrations with the drawbars for different styles of music. Also the Cd is very well played and contains a number of nice pieces of music to play-a-long, plus some voicing techniques, bass lines for the left hand and some soloing techniques. It's not a course on improvisation, but rather an overview of the hammond organ and its possibilities, with music examples played with a full band to put it all in context. Most of the info here can be applied to hammond clones as well (as long as they have drawbars) like korg cx3 nord c1 nord electro, roland vk series , the new hammonds xb1 xk3 etc. So, even more for the players of this new generation keyboards, the philosophy behind the B3 is explained here with enough detail to get you going, and helping you to get a more authentic use of your clone.
No Substitute for Listening.......2007-02-03
I don't have this book, so I'm only rating it a "1". It it might be useful for some budding Hammond grinders. You might also check out Joey D's improv book too... has some useful stuff, and a good accompanying CDROM.
Regardless, you have to LISTEN a lot. Try some Groove Holmes, Moe Denham, Tony Monaco, Joey D, Larry Goldings, Wild Bill Davis, etc. Get yourself a tempo-shift CD player. Tascam makes a crappy one (which I smashed against a wall, then bought a SuperScope). If you have a computer, try "Amazing Slow Downer"... very cheap, and an excellent software product that will slow the tempo and retain the pitch.

One of the few Hammond methods around.......2002-11-19
I thought there were no Hammond methods, but somehow I found this one, and it's a good starting point for neophytes of the B-3 and drawbar organs. Don't expect it to disclose all the techniques you heard on Jimmy Smith's records, but it can be really useful as a reference book. The addition of the CD is absolutely essential: a good feature from the author.
It's a fairly good catalogue of riffs, although I wish it focused a lot more on funk and jazzy riffs (there are some good examples, however -but not enough nor representative) than on poppy ballads and clichés.
Anyway,at least it can lend some help to us forgotten organists and lovers of the Hammond!
Book Description

---Have Fun!
Good beginner book.......2005-10-23
This is a great book for someone who has no experience at all playing the keyboard. It isn't too fast paced which is great for a beginner. After mastering the basics in this book, a beginner can comfortably move on to more challenging material.
Way too basic.......2005-09-25
I did not like this book at all because it does not teach you anything. This book is way to basic. Even if you have never touched a keyboard in your life, you will use this book for 15 minutes, the time it takes to read it from the first to the last page...
Basic Keyboarding.......2005-05-28
This book teachs you the basics of keyboarding which is great if you are not sure if keyboarding is for you. I really enjoyed learning the basics and now I have moved on to Berklee Practice Method: Keyboard. So try Instant Keyboard out I think you will enjoy it.

Book Description
Pages of full-color photos identify mineral formations as common as iron and sulfur and as precious as diamonds and rubies. Minerals are shown as they occur both in natural deposits and in their cut-and-polished states. Readers get an overview of mineral sources, gem cutting, imitation gems, metals and metal working, and much more. Also described and shown are meteorites that have fallen to earth from outer space. Perhaps most fascinating of all are the many color photos of fossils, including insects, shell fish, vegetable forms, and animal skeletons, preserved in fossilized formations for millions of years.

God Is Not A Homophobe.......2007-05-20
The book is very informative and objective allowing you to either agree on the facts or disagree. I am well pleased with the book and have recommended it to others who need to know how to study the Bible properly and understand what is written in the context that it is written.

Abominations will find you.
"Such a contradiction. So courteous and yet so evil. Eve couldn't wrap her mind around it. He kept a tight grip on her arm as they went around to the back of the cabin. Thunder rumbled overhead, and fingers of lightning illuminated the mostly overgrown path. In the next flash, Eve saw the white birds gliding along the pond's surface."

Abomination ~ Reviewed.......2007-10-01
Colleen Coble's Abomination is a chilling tale of one man's obsession and a serial killer that taunts the authorities by the cryptic clues he leaves. It is also a story of second chances and hope. The ending initially left me off-kilter, but as I turned over the story in my head, the clues that had eluded me finally dropped into place. Abomination is a creepy read that kept me guessing up to the end.

EDGE OF YOUR SEAT SUSPENSE!.......2007-09-17
This is my first time reading Colleen Coble - but I can quarantee it won't
be my last!! I absolutely loved this book. I could not put it down.
The story grabbed my attention from the first page, and I couldn't read
it fast enough. Great suspense, believable romance, and the characters
felt like old friends by the time I finished the book. I will read her
previous "Rock Harbor" books, but I am hoping that she puts out even more
with the characters from Rock Harbor!
Thanks for the fantastic story, Colleen!
Good story.......2007-08-26
I enjoyed this one even more than the other Rock Harbor books. It seemed to be more of a page-turner with more interesting plot twists. I only wish that it had expanded more on previous characters, such as Bree's sisters in law, and her recently married friend. It felt empty without more of them.
Be forewarned! Once you start, you can't stop!.......2007-08-23
Look out! When you pick up this book, be ready to sit down and read it from start to finish. It quickly hooks you! Colleen has done a great job keeping your interest and never quite letting you figure it out. Just when you think, you've got it, something or someone else gets thrown in. This book definitely keeps you guessing. BUT at the very end, you have an ah-ha moment. It all makes sense. If you like suspense, you will love this book!
Suspense that reads like suspense, not "Christian" suspense.......2007-08-20
It's easy to write off most books released under a "Christian" label. They're often pale and flimsy, and leave you thinking, "No way this book would have been published by a 'real' publisher."
It's wonderful, then, to stumble across a book that is simply good. Not "Christian" good, not "non-Christian" good, but just good. I'm far more interested in a good read than knowing what the author believes (especially in a genre like suspense).
The book was interesting, with several subplots, and a lot of candidates for the killer. I enjoyed thinking through who "the guy" might be, and even once I had a strong suspicion, I read with interest and questioning.
The ending was strong, there was a particularly horrific scene at the end that was very unique and original, and I think suspense lovers will get a kick out of this. It's not a continuation of the Rock Harbor series (I had not read any of those, and didn't have any questions about what was going on), either. Tons of tension, realistic characters, and a great premise. I'd recommend it to anyone without a second thought.
Book Description
Last we saw Cotton Coleridge, he'd traded in his six-guns for stakes when he fought a frontier town full of vampires. This time around the "lightning rod for the supernatural" faces zombies, ghosts, resurrectionists, giant flies, carnivorous slugs, demons and lots of pure evil!
Customer Reviews:
Expanding the mythos.......2007-02-11
When you see Mr. Tinnell's name on a graphic novel, you know you're in for a treat. But this book is a marvel of itself. What Mr. T, Todd Livingston and Neil Vokes did was create a character -- Cotton Coleridge, a vampire hunter with an ugly past in the Old West -- in Volume 1. The result is the kind of smack you over the head entertainment that only the best have the cojones to fire at you any more. But then in this volume, they added to their own update ofthe story by having 30 other contributors pitch in, bringing their own unique visions to the overall picture. The result is nothing less than amazing. Story after story, with differing visual styles, all playing together and wrapping themselves around the Cotton Coleridge character. The fun never stops, with genuine chills, novel twists and hearty chuckles. I believe it's rare for most artists to invite others along to their party -- there's too much "I Me Mine" involved. But what TL&V have accomplished by being brave enough to open the doors is 1) greatly expand the depth and significance of the mythos they have created, and 2) providing a rollicking good time no single creative team could have come up with (at least not in one book.) Bravo, folks. Bring on more.
My favorite comic for 2006.......2006-11-22
My Amazon order of WICKED WEST 2 has finally arrived and I am blown away: I had always enjoyed the first instalment, but now absolutely love the character of Cotton Coleridge, a Western hero with a difference: he chases Vampires and other undead creatures of the night.
This second book in the series is in an anthology format that really helps put the main story into a larger perspective and has me gagging to hear more about Coleridge, how he got cursed and his attempts to rid himself of the curse and seek revenge on the 13 men that instigated it.
The main story, "Abomination", is by far the longest and comes courtesy of the original Wicked West creators, Todd Livingston, Robert Tinnell and Neil Vokes. On top of that we get another 23 (!) stories created and drawn by a huge number of guest stars such as Adrian Salmon, Michael Avon Oeming, Alex Saviuk and others. Those stories deal with various aspects of Coleridge's personality and adventures as well as his "career" as a pulp fiction character. We also have a handful of stories that follow up on the cinematic interpretation of the events in the first book, "Terror Over Texas". Some of those stories have a hard horror edge, others are more humorous, and a good number have punch lines that you'll keep in your mind for days to come.
It is great to see so many different variations on the theme assembled in this comic. As a result Cotton Coleridge has now become a fully fledged pulp character for me. That character has room for at least another dozen or so volumes and I hope that his success may continue.
Okay, Pardner, Buy This Book.......2006-11-03
"The Wicked West Volume 2" is about the continuing adventures of the cursed cowboy, Cotton Coleridge. It contains 24 adventures about horror in the West, almost all relating to our reluctant hero, Coleridge. All the tales focus on horrors while never leaving the western milieu. That is, each graphic and prose tale (and there are two excellent prose stories) pull you into the American West like a Clint Eastwood movie...and hold you there like fangs on Christopher Lee. This book is wicked good fun. All the stories are good, but the stand-outs are the tales by Robert Tinnell, Todd Livingston, and Neil Vokes, whether in concert, or with others. Also, the continuing tale of the Coleridge-based 1930's serial is a delight. All in all, "The Wicked West Volume 2" is wicked fun. Be afraid, pardner, and enjoy!
Customer Reviews:
the book that kept me busy,.......2001-03-20
a great hulk novel. i've always liked the battles between the hulk and the abomination, and this one is a little different, because, as dr. banner put it,''this isn't like emil. emil kickes and bites.''this and peter david's book have to be my favs for hulk novels. a good read that kept me busy.
Wow........1999-11-30
Wow! What a wonderfully pleasant surprise this book was. I still can't believe that the Hulk, a character i've never been overly fond of, has managed to score two of my highest reviews (this one and Peter David's book)! I guess i have to start this review off with an apology. In reviewing the Doomsday trilogy i criticized the need for Sean Morgan and SAFE, arguing that the more familiar Nick Fury and SHIELD could play much the same roll. Well, that's certainly not true in this book. Sean Morgan is a pivotal AND compelling character in Abominations. Jason Henderson fleshes out a history for the character that intricately ties him into the plot. A strong emotional triangle is set between Morgan, the Hulk, and the Abomination that takes takes this book up a step or two above the usual fare. Henderson's portrayal of the villian of the piece, the Abomination, is as compelling (in it's own way) as the character of Sean Morgan. In fact, Henderson appears to have been giving almost as much room to play with the Abomination (an official comic character) as Sean Morgan (a character unique to the Marvel novels). The book benefits from this, and i can only hope that the bigwigs at Marvel take note. Stretching the boundaries with establish characters may create some continuity problems....but this freedom allows the writers to create a better story. It's at this point past readers of my reviews probably expect me to mention what i didn't like about this book. Well, surprise....i liked everything about this book. The Hulk was written extremely well, and easily would have been the highlight of this book if it wasn't for the exception portrayals of Morgan & the Abomination that , at times, overshadowed our lead. The plot was good, but it was the intricately weaved sub-plot that kept me rivited. If you're not totally into this book by the end of chapter one, you might as well just stop reading...'cause you just don't get it! Heck, as i write this review i'm remembering more and more how much i liked. I'm also trying to figure out if there's any good reason why this book shouldn't get five stars. Hmmmmm.... OK, maybe one little thing. I would have liked a tad more humour. But that's REALLY nit-picking. -- Peter James Gallacher
the best Hulk book.......1999-02-02
Yeah, I know, everyone loves _What Savage Beast_ by Peter David, and it is a great book by the guy who knows the Hulk best, but I think _Abominations_ is even _better_. Henderson's a really good writer whose characterizations and dialogue are fantastic, and who gives us a much more interesting Abomination than we've _ever_ gotten in the comics from anyone, including Mr. David. (The whole book's worth it for the unstable molecules conversation. Trust me, buy the book and you'll understand it.)
Abominations hardly abominable!.......1998-08-13
Funny, I wasn't expecting anything more than a ood timekiller out of Jason Henderson's Incredible Hulk Novel, Abominations. Having read his Highlander novel, I should have know better. What I got was a smart, fast paced adventure with feeling, and a suprisingly emotional conection. I've never been a huge fan of the Hulk's, but after this, I think my tastes might be changing. Mr. Henderson's ability to strip bare a character's soul leaves the reader breathless, and maybe gives a little glimpse into our own hearts, and a thought to get you through. Just remember, it's only Unstable Molecules. Easily, my favorite book of the past two years.
More than just a fight........1997-07-16
For a book which stars 2 of Marvel's heaviest hitters, this book has a lot more going for it than just 2 big guys smashing each other(although that is there too). There is depth of character and a darn good story told here as wel

Book Description
In Salt Lake City, Charlie Robinson is brutally murdered. The police can find no motive for the murder except that Charlie happened to be gay. The investigation moves to Charlie's next door neighbor, Joe McCoy, who is an alcoholic loner. With no alibi and some very circumstantial evidence, McCoy finds himself the only suspect. When another homosexual is found murdered, the religious and political leaders of Utah want the killer caught quickly to avoid all the media attention coming their way. Lt. Mike Polowski, lead investigator on the case, doesn't care what politicians or religious leaders want. He just wants to stop a killer. That may be impossible with the pressure from above to arrest someone, especially if that someone isn't of the dominant faith. Lives are lost and changed forever in pursuit of a serial killer whose twisted views find murder to be an appropriate response to his beliefs.

Very good mystery.......2007-07-19
This book was a dark mystery. Very well written. If you like the Serial Killer stories with a twist, this book is for you.
It's okay.......2007-04-02
Being that this is my uncle's book, I can't really give it a horrible review. The truth is, I thought this was actually a pretty good book and I liked it. It's not my favorite book, but it was pretty good.
Book Description
Cruising the seamy underbelly of London’s gay scene, James Moore Zamora is as eager to repel men as he is to seduce them. Handsome, sophisticated, intelligent, and vain, beneath his immaculately maintained exterior lies an elaborate network of deeply embedded scars from a lifetime filled with betrayal and isolation. Born to negligent, self-absorbed parents and raised among upper crust society on a picturesque Spanish island, at nine-years-old James is sent off to an exclusive Catholic boarding school in England. Met with savageness by his peers, and seduced by the twisted affections of his teachers, he soon develops a self-consciousness that passes for self-awareness and a profound cynicism that masks savage anger. Charged with linguistic precision, brutal honesty, and caustic wit,
The Abomination is a disturbing yet electrifying account of one man’s tortured coming of age.
Customer Reviews:
Starts promising, doesn't go anywhere.......2007-09-25
A friend picked this book up from the library based on reading the first two pages - I bought it based on the same. It had me hooked for a while as having so much information packed in each sentence kept my interest; however, while that format works for an intimate scene between two people it has the opposite effect when it takes three pages to do simple tasks like getting dressed. Often, the action feels like it's extremely slow because so much information goes into every meticulous detail.
There's also a section where we get to see what went on during the protagonist's childhood. Again, I was intrigued as it offered a view into what crafted Iago into the man he is, but then I was disappointed to find out that it became to BULK of the novel.
Ultimately, this book had a lot of promise but the character never grows and the story (whatever there is) gets lost in the details.
Boring.......2006-04-02
And since the author didn't use proper grammer, very hard to follow. Couldn't finish it.
New, addictive and toxic!.......2005-07-07
This book would be apalling for many people. The content gets into some risque material, ie man/boy love. However, I had a book group with this book and everyone loved the book. We all thought that he magically pulls off the scenes between the 12 or so year old boy and the adult he interacts with. My friend and I actually agreed that the description even sounded pretty and nice. It's just something you'll have to read to get.
Also, there is not much dialogue, which can drive some people crazy, but I thought the book was great.
I gave it 4 stars because I have a sense it could have been a bit better had this been his 3rd or 4th book.
Once started I didn't wanna put it down.
Clever, disturbing, dark..........2005-05-12
The Abomination is one of the darkest, most disturbing novels I have read in a while. The plot, language and dialogue are disarming from beginning to end. This novel is about a half English, half Spaniard homosexual male who finds himself in an existential crisis when it comes to his relationships with men. He looks back into the days in an English boarding school after his arrival from Spain. That is where his relationships with men begin and how his confusion in a world where heterosexuality is the only thing acceptable in today's society and what has to be done in order to be accepted as a gay man in the modern world. There are various twists throughout the novel.
Santiago Moore Zamora is not a sympathetic character in the slightest. He is the proverbial anti-hero in more ways than one. Coming from an aristocratic Spanish mother, his homosexuality is more of a taboo in the eyes of the people closest to him. But his childhood memories are not an attempt at gaining sympathy from the readers. Santiago's language is dark and apathetic from beginning to end. It is difficult to describe just how impassive the character is -- suffice it to say that his recollection of his first sexual encounter with a teacher at the tender age of nine are disturbing to the max. And things get all the darker as the novel progresses. The Abomination is the sort of novel that does not sugarcoat the events and instead illustrates the underbelly of the human condition. Paul Golding is quite a gifted author. He reminds me of the authors Corene Lemaitre and Kate Christensen in that the characters are quite flawed. I recommend this great novel and look forward to reading more books by this talented British author.
Another first novel.......2004-04-26
Mr Golding's first novel chronicles the life of Santiago Moore Zamora. He was born in Spain where he lived until he was sent to boarding school in England. Certain passages in this novel are of real interest: Santiago's affection for his nurse Mam?zelle, his solitude in the company of others, his disgust for physical activity, his perception of the futility of social behaviour and his attachment to his teachers which leads to the loss of his virginity. The reader may freely skip parts one and five of Mr Golding's novel, unless he needs to learn that some homosexuals are obsessively preoccupied with their own body and clothing and that because one of their major concerns in life is sex, their bound to be unhappy, their life being an abomination indeed.
