Book Description
This book includes papers on polymeric materials from renewable resources known as `Biorelated Polymers and Plastics', and issues are bound to their utilization and environmental impact in their production, conversions to manufacts and ultimate disposal of post-costume manufacts. Modern industrial developments inspired by the new concepts of sustainability and ecocompatibility require a deeper attention to renewable resources as a new-old source of raw material and feedback.
This new trend, occurring not only in industrialized countries but also in emerging countries and countries in transition, thoroughly permeates the polymer and plastic industry, due to the big impact that those materials have on the modern way of life. Plastic waste, specifically that stemming from segments of packaging, containers for solids and liquids and single use items, is attracting much effort from municipality officers, producers and converters, aimed at finding a harmonized solution among the various options available for their appropriate management. In this respect, polymeric materials of natural origin (biopolymers), as well as materials from renewable resources useable for the production of monomeric precursors, or semi-synthetic polymeric materials, constitute a focal point for future industrial development in the production of polymers and plastics.
The present book contains much valuable information and scientific hints on a modern approach aimed at designing processes and products with minimal negative environmental impact.

Book Description
Large observational studies involving research questions that require the measurement of several features on each individual arise in many fields including the social and medical sciences. This book sets out both the general concepts and the more technical statistical issues involved in analysis and interpretation. Numerous illustrative examples are described in outline and four studies are discussed in some detail. The use of graphical representations of dependencies and independencies among the features under study is stressed, both to incorporate available knowledge at the planning stage of an analysis and to summarize aspects important for interpretation after detailed statistical analysis is complete. This book is aimed at research workers using statistical methods as well as statisticians involved in empirical research.

Customer Reviews:
Gilbert.......2007-10-06
Let me tell you a feel-good story. It involves love - the love of a mother for her daughter, and a child's passionate, exhilarated, uncomplicated love for books. This is the true story of Deb Raymer, and her daughter Sabrina, and how I came to know them. This holiday season, I am grateful that Deb has shared parts of her story, and that through her mom, Sabrina has shared a wonderful cast of characters previously unknown to me.
A couple of months ago, Deb asked me to help her find a series of books. All Sabrina wants for Christmas is "Gilbert". Deb needed to order multiple copies of each book in the collection, she explained. Sabrina loves the "Gilbert" books so much, that she reads them to pieces. Literally. While I am always thrilled to see someone who loves books that much, that's not even the best part of the story. Sabrina is mentally and physically handicapped. She has a job at Partners in Progress that she enjoys. Whenever she rides to work on the bus, she has a "Gilbert" book - or two, or three - in her bag, and she "reads" them to the other passengers. Sabrina has memorized her favorite books. Her mother needs to keep buying new copies of them because Sabrina pages through them so much and so often that they fall apart.
Gilbert, the hedgehog, and his sister Lola, are creations from the paintbrush and pen of Diane de Groat. This author/illustrator started working in children's literature by doing the artwork for some well-known children's authors, such as Lois Lowry and Eve Bunting. De Groat started on her Gilbert series in 1996 with "Roses are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink", which is still Sabrina's favorite.
I hadn't heard of de Groat, and Deb gave my literary ego a boost by reassuring me that I'm not alone. Often, when Deb and Sabrina have searched for Gilbert in libraries and bookstores, he is nowhere to be found. So, it's time to spread the word. Diane de Groat has created a fun, inexpensive series with sympathetic characters, situations that kids can relate to, and a little lesson that doesn't come across like a 2"x 4" to the forehead. The titles themselves produce a smile for kids and adults alike. Now there's a Gilbert for every season in a child's life. A reader can start school with Gilbert in "Brand New Pencils, Brand New Books" and end the school year with the companion volume, "No More Pencils, No More Books! No More Teacher's Dirty Looks!" In these final months of the year, we have been enjoying "We Gather Together, Now Please Get Lost" for Thanksgiving, and "Jingle Bells, Homework Smells" for Christmas.
The Gilbert books have been so successful that now his sister Lola has her own series, books for slightly younger children, that often include Gilbert, but from Lola's point-of-view. When Lola can't decide what to be for Halloween, she finally decides to be "a Gilbert", because she knows he's an original. I think Sabrina and Lola are on to something good.

Liar Liar pants on fire.......2004-09-26
This is a book that has beautiful big illustration. The characters are animals (which I think children relate to better) and the story revolves around the idea that Lying is a bad habit and you get in less trouble if you tell the truth rather than lie. The story inside the story is about a teacher teaching her children about Presidents Washington and Lincoln (Mainly President Washington). The main character Gilbert is the one who learns a valuable lesson. This book would be great to read to a elementary history class especially around presidents day. I would recommend this book for kids over the age of four. I don't feel that most children under age four would understand the way the story teaches the lesson as it makes reference to the story of the Cherry Tree.

LIES.......2005-12-21
The Girl Who Lies
By
Trey
The book I read is called Liar Liar Pants On Fire. This book is about Zoey who lies so much that no one believes her even if she tries to tell the truth. After reading the book I think if you lie too much eventually no one will believe you ever again, but if you tell the truth people will believe you. Zoey changes a lot because in the beginning Zoey lies and in the end she stops because her friend comes over and sees that she is telling the truth. Before I read Liar Liar Pants on Fire I thought if you lied no one will believe you ever again. Now I think if you just tell the truth kids will start to believe you again. I recommend this book to boy and girls in 2 grade because it will teach the person not to lie, self to text to the middle kid in the family like an 8 or 7 year old.
For 2 Year olds.......2001-06-22
All those childish scenes trying to get points!
Gordon Korman is running out of ideas.......1999-06-17
While there are a few inspired moments in this Gordon Korman book, it doesn't come close to his masterpieces such as The War with Mr. Wizzle, I Want to Go Home! or Who is Bugs Potter? While Korman can write for younger readers, this story doesn't have the necessary flair to keep even the most beginning reader's attention. Very predictable and lacking the creative humor of Korman's other works.

Rachael Goodman thought she had life pretty well figured out after she finished law school, took a job as a Navy lawyer and became a JAG lieutenant, junior grade. Now she's not so sure as she goes to her first duty station in the Philippines and learns the truth behind the recruiting pitch "It's not just a job, it's an adventure." As one of the few single American women on a base with lots of sailors and Marines a very long way from home, she's getting lots of attention. And the new love of her life, a Navy SEAL named BB, is giving her a quick education in romance and military life. There's lots of adventure as Rachael navigates here way through courtrooms, barrooms and the world, finds out about the Navy, Navy SEALS, San Miguel beer, and gains perspective into affairs of the heart. Rachael has lots of growing up to do and lots of new experiences are in store. If only she can survive without becoming just another lawyer joke!
Customer Reviews:
lawyer liar drunken sailor..........2007-09-07
OK I confess I know Elissa Wellikson's parents. But that's not why I bought the book. I bought it because I was in the military and i was stationed in Guam-- not far from Subic Bay where the book is set. I didn't know if the "novel" would be any good-- but i knew it would bring back memories.
I am fairly surprised to say the book is very well written and a good read. Even if you are not Jewish (as i am, by background) nor served in the Pacific,(as i did) you will still find a few months of life in the Philipines--as seen though the eyes of a smart, attractive, newly minted officer-- an enjoyable place to visit.
A trifle steamy-- and not just the weather--this is a sojourn in a far away place you will enjoy at the beach, or on a plane, or anytime you just want to "get away from it all."

Book Description
Supreme Court Justice John Marshall Harlan (1833-1911) is best known for condemning racial segregation in his dissent from Plessy v. Ferguson in 1896, when he declared, "Our Constitution is color-blind." But in other judicial decisionsas well as in some areas of his lifeHarlan's actions directly contradicted the essence of his famous statement. Similarly, Harlan was called the people's judge for favoring income tax and antitrust laws, yet he also upheld doctrines that benefited large corporations.
Examining these and other puzzles in Harlan's judicial career, Linda Przybyszewski draws on a rich array of previously neglected sourcesincluding the verbatim transcripts of his 1897-98 lectures on constitutional law, his wife's 1915 memoirs, and a compilation of opinions, drawn up by Harlan himself, that he wanted republished. Her thoughtful examination demonstrates how Harlan inherited the traditions of paternalism, nationalism, and religious faith; how he reshaped these traditions in light of his experiences as a lawyer, political candidate, and judge; and how he justified the vision of the law he wrote.
An innovative combination of personal and judicial biography, this book makes an insightful contribution to American constitutional and intellectual history.
