S-centered Radicals Edited by Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Israel Sulfur containing radicals, formed from sulfur emissions from natural sources (e.g. volcanoes), power plants and from car exhausts, play an important role in our atmosphere. In the living cell, sulfur constitutes an essential part of the defence against oxidative damage and in the course of this mechanism is transformed into a variety of sulfur free radical species. S-centered Radicals deals with the organic radicals containing sulfur atoms, RS*, RSO*, RSO_2* and R_3S and the inorganic radicals, *SH and SO_x*. This is the book to bring together all the recent developments of S-centered radical chemistry. This area is extremely important to organic synthetic chemists and environmentalists. S-centered radicals are of increasing interest in biochemistry and medicine due to S-containing amino-acids and S-S bonds in proteins. Sulfur radicals are also involved in polymer chemistry and photonic materials as well as in radiation protection and nutrition. Free radicals, which are key intermediates in many thermal, photochemical and radiation processes, are important for a proper understanding of fundamental natural processes and the successful development of organic syntheses. After about one decade volume II/18 serves as a supplement and extension to volume II/13 and covers rate constants and other kinetic data of free radical reactions in liquids. Furthermore II/18 contains new chapters on reactions of radicals in excited states and of carbenes, nitrenes and analogues. Selected species in aqueous solutions for which other compilations are available were deliberately omitted as before, and for the same reason electron transfer equilibria of organic radicals were not covered.

Miscalculations.......2006-07-26

If you are writing a book that is solely text and you misspell a word, the concept will still be clear from the context of what is being written.

However when you are writing a technical book where math is being manipulated and you write 12 instead of 10 it is unacceptable.

It is diffcult to determine if the initial number was correct or the subsequent number is. Half the problem is in one number and half the problem is in the second number. You can just assert one of them but there is still a question in you mind about the book's answer.

There is no errata sheet for this book on the McGraw-Hill web site. You will not get as much from this book as you expect, due to the errors.

Jake gets hit with a baseball, now he has an enemy, Whip........1999-11-05

Dan Gutman wrote many different series such as Baseball's Greatest Games and It Came From Center Field. The Shortstop Who Knew too Much takes place in Somerville, a town in central New Jersey. The charctersin this story are Jake, who is the main character and is important to the story. His best friend known as ''Whiplash'' is another main character. This story is about when Jake and Whip had an argument because Whip hit Jake by accident in a baseball game. Now, Jake has a new talent. He can read people's minds, but his relationship with Whip is falling apart. Because he can read minds, his team is doing well because he knows what his opponents are thinking. Later during the season, he is aloud to play the championships. Jake is going one on one with Whip with the bases loaded, and he gets hit again by accident which makes him the winning run. All in all, I recommend this book highly. This is a good book to read.

Tales from the SANDLOT #4 review.......2007-01-17

'The Pitcher Who Went Our of his Mind' is a great book. It is about a boy named Robert Newton who plays baseball along with his two best friends Manny and Lucy for the Sedona Red Rocks. They are playing in the Sedona Little League. During one of his games against the Vortex their opposing team, Robert is "in the zone" when Simon Foster steps up to bat and Rob is about to pitch. Suddenly, his astral body lifts from his physical body and rises above the pitchers mound but his body is still moving. They win the game. After the game Robert tells Manny and Lucy what happened to him and Lucy tells Robert to go see her mom in her mom's store. When he does she explains that he is having OOBEs out-of-body-expeirences. But when he forgets to pick up the supplies his Dad asked for he gets grounded. When he was up in his room he figures out how to control the OOBEs and he peels off of his phsical body and flies right out of his house like a ghost and flies to the Baseball Hall of Fame. The next day Manny tests him on his power and asks trivia questions about the hall of fame and he passes. Then on the final game of the Sedona Little League on the final inning Robert uses his OOBEs to take control of Simon's body and win them the game. I recomend this book to everyone. It is a great book. It tells how someone could be two places at once and I would definitly read it again.
