Bioorganic chemistry has expanded rapidly over the past two decades, enriching the disciplines of biology and chemistry and providing important insights into the workings of biological systems at a molecular level. Recently, this growing field has witnessed some very exciting results in applying design and synthesis techniques to many problems in biochemistry and molecular biology. Bridging the gap between chemistry and biology, Topics in Bioorganic and Biological Chemistry: A Series of Books in Support of Teaching and Research will serve the needs of the many graduate students and researchers who work in and study this discipline. The inaugural work in this series, Bioorganic Chemistry, is composed of three volumes: Nucleic Acids, Peptides and Proteins, and Carbohydrates. This third volume, Bioorganic Chemistry: Carbohydrates, provides a broad overview of the topic. It covers the chemical and enzymatic synthesis of simple and complex carbohydrates and modern methods for the analysis of carbohydrate structure, and reviews the ways in which carbohydrates mediate binding to cells and subcellular targets such as DNA, proteins, and antibody binding sites. It also provides an overview of cyclodextrins and their properties and the biosynthesis of carbohydrates. The text is comprised of 13 chapters, making it ideal for use in a one-semester graduate level special topics course in carbohydrates. Each chapter begins with an introduction that includes basic principles, a summary of key findings which support current research in the field, and an overview of current research activity. The remainder of each chapter deals in greater detail with a number of recent studies that illustrate the nature of ongoing activity in the field. All chapters have been written by leading researchers, and numerous references are given.
Book Description
Biosynthesis, chemical synthesis, combinatorial synthesis, enzymatic synthesis, enzymes and genetics are subjects of considerable interest. These themes are dealt with in three areas of current bioorganic research. Deoxysugars and deoxy- oligosaccharides are important structural moieties in bio- active natural products. What is their contribution to the mode of action and how can they be studied? Synthetic strategies, biosynthesis and the genetics involved are presented. The second review article, on non-template based multienzyme systems, addresses the question why polyketides are the most diverse group of natural products. Polyketide syntheses are compared with other non-template multienzyme systems. The third review article deals with angucycline antibiotics, the largest subgroup of polycyclic aromatic polyketides.

The book was in great shape, except for the lower right hand corner of the front cover. I think this bend in the book cover is mostly due to the packaging, or lack there of. The big text book was just placed in a cardboard box without any filler or wrapping of any type. Of course, I can still read the book and use it for class, so I am pleasantly pleased.

I love Norton, but for this author THE RIVERSIDE is the definative edition, not perfect, but in this case; the best and only book you need for the Bard. I miss the one-volumn edition, but everyone will love the bonus material that has been added in this 2 vol boxset! IT HAS EVERYTHING a student will ever need and more than most professors can use. For 99.98% of the population: this book is MORE than complete...I think you would ahve to go to the Folios or Quatros directly to get a more book with more authority.

From the supplier: The Supreme Court in Richards v. Wisconsin rejected the drug-cases exception to the search warrant requirement, finding the category overbroad and that many nondrug cases exhibited some of the same features as drug cases. The Court chose a requirement of particularized suspicion in each case and used the reasonable-suspicion rather than the probable cause standard. How the exclusionary rule will in the end be resolved is difficult to say.
