Clinical Applications of TGF-ß Chairman: M.B. Sporn 1991 TGF-ß, originally identified as a transforming growth factor, is now known to exist as a family of factors with similar properties. These factors promote cell proliferation in some tissue types or conditions and induce cell differentiation in others. This book contains the latest information on the molecular biology of this family and the cognate receptors. TGF-ß regulates the expression of components of the extracellular matrix, and thus cell adhesion and migration—processes that are particularly important during development and tumorigenesis. TGF-ß has an effect on many cell types, which means that it, or its antagonists, may have clinical applications in diseases of many different tissues. It is already showing promise as a therapeutic agent in bone and wound healing. Increased expression of TGF-ß is associated with the fibrosis that occurs in chronic liver disease (TGF-ß1) and in pulmonary fibrosis of the lung (TGF-ß1 and 2). Treatment with an anti-TGF-ß1 antiserum attenuated the histological manifestations of disease in an experimental model of glomerulonephritis. In the haemopoietic system, TGF-ß arrests the growth of the most primitive stem cells and could therefore be used as a bone marrow protrctive agent during chemotherapy. In contrast, TGF-ß2 is produced by glioblastomas and may contribute to the malignancy of these tumours by impairing tumour surveillance—another case in which treatment with an antagonist may be useful. The complex effects of TGF-ß in different tissues make it a very exciting agent, but one which must be used with care. This book evaluates the behaviour of the TGF-ß family in many contexts and provides a basis for future clinical application. Despite outstanding achievements, Quantum Chemistry has failed to achieve exact representations of molecular data from exact quantum principles. Hadronic Chemistry is a new, nonlinear, nonlocal and nonunitary covering discipline which admits all quantum models as particular cases, while permitting invariant representations of molecular data exact to any desired accuracy. These results are due to a new mathematics necessary for the invariant treatment of nonlinear, nonlocal, and nonunitary theories, known as Santilli isomathematics, and a new structure model of molecules with strongly attractive correlations of valence electron pairs in single couplings, which correlations are nonlinear, nonlocal, and nonunitary, thus outside all the capabilities of Quantum Chemistry. Following a systematic presentation of the basic methods, the new model of molecules, and its experimental verifications, the author applies Hadronic Chemistry to the prediction and experimental verification of a new chemical species, called magnecules, consisting of stable clusters of molecules, dimers, and individual atoms under new non-valence internal bonds. Finally, the author applies all these results to the industrial development of new, clean energies and fuels.

Entertaining, but not my favorite..........2007-03-14

Although the plot is somewhat predictable, and certainly not very believable... (why are two city folk solving a murder instead of the police) the story still entertains. It is always fun to follow Evanovich's characters (this time with the obvious assistance of Charlotte Hughes) through their hairbrained trials and tribulations. I listened to this book on CD and thoroughly enjoyed the author interview at the end.

If you are looking for another great, quick read I recommend "The Time Keeper" by Kevin Cropp. Although not as light-hearted as "Full Blast" it is still a gratifying, recommended read.

Janet Evanovich DIDN'T write this novel!.......2007-02-27

Jamie Swift is ready for her life to return to normal and predictable, but when the personal's section of her newspaper is the only connection in a series of serial killings, Jamie enlists the help of her commitment phobic lover Max, and a shady psychic Divine.

Though Janet Evanovich's name is on the cover of this novel, it is obvious she did not write it. Nothing, except for 3 scenes altogether, had any resemblance to her writing style. The main characters were different in personality to those in the previous book in the series, and they were different from any character Janet has ever written (which indicates that she didn't write this). In the 300 plus pages of this novel, there was only ONE comical scene, and that wasn't all that funny. The only comical character in the novel (Dee Dee) was actually vary stupid and pathetic. If you're a Janet fan, avoid this book because it wasn't written by her. If you're a Charlotte fan, then you might enjoy this novel and it's lack of Janet's writing. Personally, I read Janet Evanovich's novels for the comedy. No one can make me laugh like she does, and for that reason, this novel disappointed me. I wanted a silly comedy, not a semi-serious romance with a small amount of suspense. When it comes to non-comical romantic suspense, there are better books and authors out there.

Everyone is Full of It.......2006-09-24

Once again Janet Evanovich entertains her readers with a witty story full of fun. She has teamed up with Charlotte Hughes to write the FULL series and the duo continues to produce winning stories that will keep you coming back for the next one.

Jamie and Max once more team up in FULL BLAST to free Beaumont, South Carolina of a villain. For a small town this one sure has more than its share of bad guys. Jamie runs the small newspaper in the town and Max Holt is her silent partner - he's the multi-millionaire hunk that has breezed in and out of Jamie's life for two previous books, or a few months in normal time measuring terms. They both feel fireworks when they are together but until this book those fireworks were always smothered by interruptions.

Jamie decides to add a personal ad section in her newspaper and it unknowingly causes problems. A woman in town is murdered and the chief of police believes it's tied to the personal ads. Jamie calls Max in to help solve the crime... ok so it was an excuse to call Max because she missed him.

Max arrives to save the day and they begin another quest to solve yet another mystery. The mystery isn't much of one as the identity of the villain is obvious from the first appearance. The only difference in this book and the two previous ones is that there are no bullets flying at Jamie nor is she in immediate danger.

The romantic aspects of this book seem to be the focal points. A new lingerie shop is opened in Beaumont by the ex-librarian to the horror of some of the more staid citizens. Also, there is a rumor floating around that the local baker is adding aphrodisiacs to his brownies. It seems as if everyone in Beaumont has their hormones on overdrive and many of these side plots are absolutely hilarious. Even Fleas, Jamie's bloodhound, has a poodle that won't leave the poor thing alone and he has to jump in the bed of the pick-up truck to get away. My favorite was the transformation of Vera, Jamie's assistant editor who has been like a mother to her for years. Vera's beehive hairdo is replaced with a stylish cut, her clothes take on a drastic change to modern attire, and she even gets a pink mustang. Her dating escapades were icing on the cake in this story line.

Max and Jamie finally have some uninterrupted time together (wink, wink) and most of this story has them each trying to figure out the depth of their feelings for each other. It'll be interesting to see what lies ahead for these two with FULL BLOOM - the next book in the series. I'm not sure how much more these two characters can keep the readers entertained and wanting to come back for more - they've done just about everything possible and it would be overkill to continue with them.

Character development is once again excellent. The transformation of Vera into a woman who dates and enjoys life was tremendous. The addition of a psychic was interesting, but Ronnie the spirit who follows her around was priceless. The characters are so vastly different that I wonder if these two authors don't sit down over coffee and come up with outrageous people and see how they would fit in the storyline.

Overall, FULL BLAST is another fun book by Evanovich and Hughes. If you're looking for a mystery that will have your mind working overtime to figure it out, this is not the book for you. But if you're looking for a fun story, with a lot of romance, then pick up a copy soon.

Wasn't as much as a blast as I hoped, but wasn't horrible either.......2006-09-04

Love is in the humid summer air of small town Beaumont, South Carolina. To the dismay of some town Christians, the town has taken a turn to the wild side--- aphrodisiac brownies, adult birthday cakes, and EXTREMELY publicly displayed lingerie. Jamie Swift, owner of newspaper Beaumont Gazette, has also launched a "Personals Section" in her newspaper.

Jamie has a relationship with sexy millionaire Max Holt... or at least she thinks she does. She hasn't seen or been contacted by him for three weeks, and she's beginning to doubt her loves her. Meanwhile, a psychic named Destiny shows up at the office. Destiny offers to run an advice column for free, but soon she has an upsetting vision. There's been a murder, and it appears to be tied to the paper's "Personals Section".

Max shows up at Jamie's request to help solve the mystery, and Jamie and Destiny are set up on dates with several men in the "Personals Section" in an attempt to get more details on the killer. But while Destiny begins to fall in love with one of the men, Jamie has fallen head over heels for Max all over again, and he eventually confesses his love for her. But the clues haven't led anywhere, and they can't track the suspect down before they strike again.

Okay, let's admit it. Alot of us have rated alot of the other Evanovich books compared to the Stephanie Plum series. Compared to the SP series, this would hardly be a two star. But based independently, this book isn't all that bad. I laughed occasionally, but this was another book that was hard to put down. I would've been more impressed with this novel if it had more suspense... I mean, it just seemed a tad bit ordinary compared to "Full Tilt" or the others.

If you are completely new to Janet Evanovich, start with this series first. Then you won't be as disappointed with the next JE series you read, which will hopefully be Stephanie Plum!

I did not read the book but listened to it on tape while trudging away on the treadmill. What a find! It really made the time fly. The story may not have been riveting to read but the reader was great. Ms. Lorelei please keep it up. She really brought the characters to life and made them easy to distinguish. I am not sure if I will buy any of the books but I will definitely be looking for more on tape.

This book is short, simple and incredibly profound. Hanley's easy conversational manner helps convey what might be some difficult philosophical concepts.

This is not just another self-help book (like we need another one of those!). The perspective and paradigm Hanley portrays is transformational. The experience one has in reading this book is a profound sense of relief and peace. This book deserves to be read and re-read often.

This is the best Stony Man book to come out since Dragonfire!! The sequel is good as well, but the first half rocks! There is plenty of plot to keep all of the characters busy without being thrown to the sidelines or shoved onto the back burner. The characterizations are spot on and the action just builds and builds. Also highly recommended is the Cutting Audio multicast version of the audiobooks--it will blow you away! (they have an online site where you can download the book).
