Customer Reviews:
cheesy dialogue.......2007-09-10
Maybe it was just me, but I found the "hero" of the story to be.... lacking? The dialogue was at times ridiculous and why in the world does he name his you-know-what and actully tell Rachel after barely knowing her? STUPID! And the storyline, come on! I figured out the "mystery" way before the end. Pretty predictable.
Catherine Anderson - WOW - is she is amazing or what?????.......2007-07-05
************** Okay - I don't usually get sentimental over books - I read them and either love them or don't get through them - I have a very busy schedule and don't have time to buy books that are not worth my time. Catherine Anderson's books are all fabulous... very poignantly written and on the same shelf as Cheryl St. John's books.
I don't typically go for contemporary romances, as my period is historicals, so I have not read any of Anderson's contemporary books - but some of my friends love them.
Getting back to Summer Breeze.... WOW in a huge way. The story sounded intriguing from the beginning and what made me give it a 5 star rating, is the beauty of how the book is written, the depth of all the characters and the compassion and joy you feel for all of them.
From the time the book starts, in 2005 where Tucker Coulter has found a musty, old diary in the attic the story propels itself with tidal wave force never letting up. He and his mother start reading the entries in the diary and you are transported right back to 1889, to a small town called No Name. Yup, it's a Western, but believe you me, don't let that deter you, because if you like novels that absorb you and make you want to almost be there as a part of what you are reading... well, this is just like that and you will not want to put this one down - I read it in a day!!!
I am not going to waste time giving you a plotline. I will just say that the story of Joseph Paxton and Rachel Hollister will have you laughing (his sayings are laugh out loud funny) and crying at the beauty of the tenderness and patience that Joseph exercises with Rachel and how his carefree and outgoing manner change her from the recluse she had become to the vibrant woman at the end of the book. You will cheer when you are reading and frown when you are finished... the story was that good.
******* If you have not gotten your claws into Catherine Anderson's stories - I strongly urge you to get her books, pronto... Keegan's Lady is the book of Ace and Kathleen - who appear in this story. Another great one is Annie's Song.
I hope you agree with me. Catherine Anderson is rare talent indeed. It is hard not to be moved by the depth of emotion that flows through the pages of her books. DEFINITELY SHELF KEEPERS***********
Summer Breeze.......2007-04-11
Catherine Anderson Is One Of My Favorite Authors, She Is Very Powerful The Way She Puts Everything Into Words Of A Great Story, Annie's Song Was One Of Those Novels
LOVED IT!!!.......2007-03-08
I haven't read a book in 2 years due to having a young one at home - I have no time. I went away for a few days a brought this book with me (I bought it last summer and hadn't cracked it yet). Once I opened it, I couldn't put it down. It drew me in- made me laugh, cry, and love each character. I would tell anyone to read it and let them introduce themselves to Joseph and Rachel...their love was so beautiful as well as the story.
There should be a six star rating..........2006-09-21
There should be a six star rating just for "Catherine Anderson". No one writes like her. She truly knows the human heart, and true love. The heroes in her stories, are to die for. Her characters are always wonderful. The heroines are great. And all her characters are always so well researched, human, and real. Wonderful, great, fantastic work. Catherine Anderson, I am a new fan of your writting.
"Summer Breeze" is the sequel to "Keegan's lady". "Catherine" is one of those very, very rare authors whose writting is superb.
Highly recommended.
Book Description
In book two of this fiction series based on the best-selling non-fiction book The Four Seasons of Marriage, readers meet the blended family of Derek and Kim Finley. Kim has a set of twins--one boy and one girl--from her first marriage; Luke has recently been diagnosed with diabetes, and Lydia is acting out as a result of the attention now being showered on Luke. To complicate matters, Derek’s overbearing mother comes to live with them. With all that’s going on in their lives, Kim and Derek’s communication begins to break down and their marriage slowly moves into winter. Although the second book will focus on Kim and Derek, readers will also encounter all their favorite characters--Patsy Pringle, Pete Roberts, Steve and Brenda, Esther and Charlie--as well as some new ones, like the proprietor of the new sandwich shop that’s moved in next to Patsy’s beauty parlor.
Customer Reviews:
Strong Women.......2007-09-01
As with the 1st book, depicted women are strong and faithful to their faith, however I find them somewhat unbending and rather shrewish, while the men are silently strong and see the women as difficult to get along with. I'd like a better balance.
Summer Breeze- Hot Topics.......2007-07-31
Patsy Pringle's hair salon takes the area's pulse within its newly formed group, The Tea Lovers' Club. It allows the ladies to share their good news and their worries. In Book Two of this series, Kim Finley is center stage. Her mother-in-law, Miranda, has come to visit indefinitely and care for the twins, and nothing Kim does is right. Kim's concern over her daughter Lydia's rebellious actions and worry over Luke's diabetes is very stressful. How will she handle Derek's perfectly put together mother? And how will Derek manage the two women he loves most?
The citizens have adopted Cody Goss, a homeless man, and when Miranda orchestrates his leaving, no one is happy about it. This mother-in-law has stirred up more than one family.
Chapman and Palmer have created characters who share real down-to-earth problems. Their blend of humor and honesty sheds a revealing light at how God would have us handle life's stressors.
Summer Breeze ~ Reviewed.......2007-07-17
I don't like to give away the story when I review a book. So instead of talking about the plot, I just want to tell you this second book in the Four Seasons series is as good as the first. The same quirky characters are back, along with some new ones.
I like how Palmer and Chapman deliver with a touch of humor, real issues couples face in marriage. There are really about four stories going on here, some of which are left unresolved. I imagine they will be the focus of the next books in the series. One can only hope. I want to see more of the residents of Deepwater Cove.
I think Palmer and Chapman have a winning series going. A great summer read. A great read any time of year.

Trouble in Tranquility.......2007-07-14
With a name like Tranquility, a town should be, well, tranquil, right? Not exactly. Kim Finley's ten year old son, Luke, has diabetes. Her daughter, Lydia, has become a rebellious brat, and her mother-in-law has come for an extended stay. It's enough to make a woman want to run away from home. And an unidentified female body has been found in Deepwater Cove. Derek, Kim's husband, believes it is a homicide.
Miranda, Derek's mother, has developed mother-in-law meddling to a new high, and even Patsy Pringle and the Tea Lover's Club may not have all the answer's to Tranquility's problems. Fans of the TLC club wil enjoy Summer Breeze.
a fine family drama .......2007-06-11
Derek Finley feels his world is collapsing although he loves his wife Kim and her twin children Lydia and Luke from an abusive previous marriage. Helping him somewhat cope with his off the scale stress is he knows they love him too. Still he and Kim worry about paying their bills now that Luke has diabetes. Kim will need to return to the workforce, but both parents worry about caring for the children with no stay at home adult.
The answer is simple; Derek's mom Miranda moves into the household. However, the third adult causes all sorts of troubles between her son and daughter-in-law as Miranda needs to be in charge. Besides being the commanding general she also practices some odd religious beliefs that frighten Kim as her children might emulate their step-grandmother. This once solid marriage appears in deep trouble from tropical storms.
This story is based on Gary Chapman's belief that marriage changes like seasons and those in which the couple communicates their fears and desires will only get stronger. SUMMER BREEZE is an entertaining stand alone tale of two generations sharing a household that leads to conflict ironically because everyone "knows" what is best for Luke while Lydia feels left out. Using hyperbole to make the point that relationships run into storms followed by SUMMER BREEZE, this is a fine family drama filled with emotional people frightened that everything sacred to each of them is falling apart. Fans will appreciate the different reactions of the Finley family to Luke's diabetes while also reading the first marriage based tale, IT HAPPENS EVERY SPRING
