Ionic Polymerization And Living Polymers
M. Szwarc , and M. van Beylen Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0412036614 |
Book Description
More than simply an up-to-date review of ionic polymerization, this book presents an in-depth and critical comparison of the anionic and cationic polymerization of vinyl monomers and heterocyclic compounds. These different modes of ionic polymerization are examined with regard to their capacity for producing living polymers. The concept of living polymers is re-examined and redefined in light of current knowledge of ionic polymerization and possible side reactions. Throughout, the authors offer perceptive insights into the basic concepts of polymerization chemistry and polymerization reaction mechanisms. The book begins with a review of ionic and radical polymerizations, the development of ionic polymerization, living and dormant polymers, and polymerizability. It goes on to consider important aspects of the structure and properties of ionic species; initiation and propagation of ionic polymerization; polymerization steps other than initiation or propagation, such as termination, isomerization, transfer, backbiting, and degraduation; and ionic copolymerization. Ionic Polymerization and Living Polymers is a much needed advanced text that will be widely read and referred to by polymer scientists, macromolecular chemists, and materials scientists.

Atomic Processes in Plasmas: 14th APS Topical Conference on Atomic Processes in Plasmas (AIP Conference Proceedings / Atomic, Molecular, Chemical Physics)
Manufacturer: American Institute of Physics ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0735402116 |
Book Description
All papers were peer-reviewed for this proceedings volume. The conference focused on atomic physics relevant to plasmas, and plasma science dependent on atomic processes, from either a modeling or diagnostics point of view. Also, an exciting breakthrough discovery was first announced at this conference on a new antihydrogen formation technique. Topics include the relatively mature research areas of atomic structure and collisions, atomic kinetics, laser-produced plasmas, magnetic- and inertial-confinement fusion, Z-pinches, opacities and equation of state, lighting, and astrophysics, as well as the burgeoning areas of warm dense matter simulations and ultracold plasmas used, for example, in the recent formation of antihydrogen.

Her life is devoted to justice -- for those she never even knew.
In the year since Temperance Brennan left behind a shaky marriage in North Carolina, work has often preempted her weekend plans to explore Quebec. When a female corpse is discovered meticulously dismembered and stashed in trash bags, Tempe detects an alarming pattern -- and she plunges into a harrowing search for a killer. But her investigation is about to place those closest to her -- her best friend and her own daughter -- in mortal danger. . . .
Download Description
It's June in Montreal, and Tempe, who has left a shaky marriage back home in North Carolina to take on the challenging assignment of director of forensic anthropology for the province of Quebec, looks forward to a relaxing weekend. First, though, she must stop at a newly uncovered burial site in the heart of the city. One look at the decomposed and decapitated corpse, stored neatly in plastic bags, tells her she'll spend the weekend in the crime lab. This is homicide of the worst kind. To begin to find some answers, Tempe must first identify the victim. Who is this person with reddish hair and a small bone structure? Something about the crime scene is familiar to Tempe: the stashing of the body parts, the meticulous dismemberment. One case in particular comes to mind: the murder of sixteen-year-old Chantale Trottier, who'd arrived in the morgue naked, less than a year before, and packaged in plastic garbage bags. Tempe's convinced there are parallels between the two cases, but it will take more victims to persuade her police colleagues. Knowing there is a killer on the streets who may soon find a new victim, Tempe calls upon all her forensic skills, including bone, tooth, and bitemark analysis and X-ray microfluorescence to try to prove that the cases are related and to stop the killer before he strikes again. The next victim may be closer to home - Tempe's longtime friend Gabby, her college-age daughter Katy, or Tempe herself.Customer Reviews:

Recognizing haunting similarities to another local murder, Tempe knows she is trailing a serial murderer. Now she must search for clues to the killers identity the only way she can: one body at a time. From the exhumation sites to the autopsy suite, Barbara Rosenblats expressive voice pairs with Reichs brisk prose to put you at the scene of the crime.

Death Du Jour
Kathy Reichs Manufacturer: Doubleday Direct ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: B000L9VEHS |
Product Description
Readers of Kathy Reichs's cool and clever first forensic thriller Déjà Dead will recognize the ironic voice of Tempe (short for Temperance) Brennan, the North Carolina-born scientist who winds up working at the Laboratoire de Médicine Légale in Montreal. Here she bristles at the conservative attitudes of some of her Canadian colleagues. Despite the cold weather, Tempe's workload quickly becomes heavy: the bones of a long-dead nun now up for sainthood have been moved and tampered with; a deadly house fire turns out to be arson; and a university teaching assistant disappears after joining a cult. Tempe must figure out where (and why) all the bodies are buried in the hard Canadian ground. Her investigations take her home to North Carolina, and to a strange colony living on an offshore island. Unlike certain other writers who specialize in forensic pathology, Reichs doesn't revel in the horror of death or rub our noses in gore: she uses the science of death to reveal rather than to shock or startle. It definitely makes for easier reading--especially at mealtimes.
