                Book Description

Supramolecular Chemistry F. Vögtle, Institut für Organische Chemie und Biochemie der Universität Bonn, Germany This book consists of twelve self-contained chapters on supramolecular structures. Using numerous examples of `aggregates', the chemistry involved is described from different angles. Here, the multidisciplinary aspect of this domain of chemistry becomes apparent, as the close relationships with physics, physical chemistry, materials science and biochemistry are emphasized. The book begins with simple complex-forming compounds and ends with complex `supramolecules' and `suprastructures'. One of the practicalities of this volume is the inclusion of many stereoscopic views of supramolecular structures, most of them based on X-ray crystallography.

                      Book Description

A TREATISE ON DYNAMICS OF A PARTICLE A TEEATISE ON DYNAMICS OF A PARTICLE WITH NUMEROUS EXAMPLES BY EDWARD JOHN ROUTH, Sc. D., LL. D., M. A., F. RS., c. HON. FELLOJW OF PETERHOUSE, CAMBRIDGE FELLOW OF THE UNIVERSITY OF LONDON G. E. STECHERT CO. NEW YORK yi PREFACE. by which the whole solution of a dynamical problem can be made to depend on a single integral. The last word has not yet been said on these problems. The student finds as he proceeds much left to discover and many new questions to ask. When we extend our studies so as to include the planetary perturbations and to take account of the finite size of the bodies the mathematical difficulties are much increased. In the dynamics of a particle we confine ourselves to simpler problems and easier mathematics. As the subject of dynamics is usually read early in the mathematical course, the student cannot be expected to master all its difficulties at once. In this treatise the parts intended for a first reading are printed in large type and the student is advised to pass over the other parts until they are referred to later on. The same problem may be attacked on many sides and we therefore have several different ways of finding a solution. In what follows the most elementary method has in general been put first, other solutions being given later on. For the sake of simplicity they have also generally been treated first in two dimensions. In these ways the difficulties of dynamics are separated from those of pure geometry and it is hoped that both difficulties may thus be more easily overcome. Some of the examples have been fully worked out, on others hints have been given. Many of these have been selected from the Tripos and College papers in order that they may the better indicate the recent directions of dynamical thought. I cannot conclude without thanking Mr Dickson of Peterhouse. He has kindly assisted me in correcting most of the proofs and has given material aid by his verifications and suggestions. EDWARD J-. Book Description

Caterer supreme Goldy Schulz has more on her plate than she can handle. Her ultra-charming, ultra-wealthy, and seriously psychopathic ex-husband, Dr. John Richard Korman (aka "the Jerk"), is free now that the governor of Colorado has commuted his prison sentence. And someone -- the Jerk, perhaps -- has taken great pains to sabotage Goldy's latest culinary endeavor, a post-funeral reception for a friend at a local lodge.

But even more than the anonymous threats, rumors, and violence that have lately been directed Goldy's way, it's her discovery of a fresh corpse that really spoils the stew -- a murder that could tear her family to pieces, a murder that virtually everyone believes Goldy committed.

True, she's been efficiently framed, but at least she's still breathing, which may not be the case for long, if she doesn't track down a killer who's cooked up a very nasty repast for Goldy and the people she loves.

I have enjoyed the entire Goldy Culinary mystery series and Double Shot was no exception. It did leave me wondering if there would be more books in the series and how they would deal with finally having Goldy's ex out of the picture.

Double Shot features the death and crimes of Dr. John Richard Korman as unraveled by his ex-wife Goldy Shultz while she is busy trying to continue to make her living as a caterer in the Denver suburbs. Those of us who read the other eleven books in the series, are familiar with her catering career and I was happy to note that it must be going well as in this book we find out early on that she has leased an old restaurant to have a regular venue for her catered events. In the past, we have learned of Dr. Korman's abusive personality and that while he was invariably charming to outsiders, his wives and girlfriends rarely escaped being beaten or worse. As a matter of fact, in the previous books, Dr. Korman was jailed after beating one girlfriend who complained.

In the first chapter of this book, Goldy is catering a funeral lunch for a colleague of her ex-husband. Bringing in the dessert in the morning of the event, she is attacked, beaten, and her food is spoiled while mice and rotten fish are spread throughout her new kitchen area. Not only that, but once she manages to recover the luncheon, her ex-husband shows up with his current girlfriend and creates a scene in front of the whole lunch crowd with Goldy. The next major event in the chapter is that his bullet riddled body is discovered by Goldy a few hours later and Goldy's gun is found next to his body.

So, with all the clues pointing to her, is it any wonder that the police and everyone else suspects her for finally and permanently getting rid of her ex-husband? Goldy puts on her investigative hat, calls on her friends and colleagues, and launches into an investigation of who really killed the ex. This causes even more complications as her current husband is a local police investigator who has his own problems to resolve; her son goes through various stages of grief and turns out to be harboring some secrets of his own and so forth.

Eventually, a second body is discovered, and then a third and a fourth, and a fifth death is connected to the first. None of these seem to be connected at first, but do come together in the end. The conclusion of the story ties it all together and neatly explains how children born out of wedlock fifteen years ago were connected to a rape eight years before, and then connected to a rash of murders in the present time. The story is fiendishly complicated and it takes most of the 350 pages before you are capable of figuring out the various connections. Let me offer one clue only, this is actually a story of the life of Dr. John Richard Korman - Goldy is an almost accidental participant!

I found this mystery to be delightful to read. The crimes were not simple and the plot was extremely imaginative. In addition to pointing out the difference between a man/woman relationship that is based on sex or lust, it points out relationships that are based on true love. The complicated personal relationships of the various characters that we normally find in this series continue to evolve in very believable ways - as the father of teenaged boys, I could understand Goldy's frustrations with reaching to her 15 year old son and his maturing as the story progressed.

Of course this story is fantastical in the way in which Goldy manages to pull all the pieces together while hordes of policemen - including her crack investigator of a husband - are uselessly running around trying to pin down the murder on Goldy! The resolution of the story into two or three parallel threads was ingeniously done but the tie-in between the threads was a bit too threadbare to be believable. But never mind these minor quibbles; this was an excellent story and a great book to read in this genre!

                                  Recommended.

By the way, since this book features a caterer, there are a whole slew of recipes that are mentioned in the book, included in the back of the book. While I have yet to make any of them, several of them have been copied and placed in my stack of "must try" recipes!

This book "Racquetball" by P.E. Allsen is part if the Sport and Fitness Series of Brown & Benchmark Publishers. As with other books in the series, it pretty much covers everything you want to know about the sport.
It covers history, rules, procedures, strategies, etc. There are monochrome pictures of how to stand and move. Along with this are several diagrams of angles best for different types of serves. The book covers rules of different groups and how to score.
A very important but overlooked part of the sport is warming up and stretching exercises. They are covered in this book also.
The only thing lacking from the book are the strength and endurance drills that do not use the ball its self.
There is so much information in this 116 page book that it can make your racquet spin. This book is a must if you are even half way serious.

A gripping new James Bond adventure--one of the strangest and most terrifying the agent has ever endured.

Is this bizarre warning inside a fortune cookie the catalyst for a series of unsettling events that could push an impaired James Bond close to the edge of madness?

The intricately organized criminal conspiracy called the Union has vowed its revenge on the man who thwarted its last coup. Now, the Union's mysterious leader sets out to destroy James Bond's reputation and sanity by luring the agent into a dangerous alliance of deceit and treason with a Spanish militant intent on reclaiming Gibraltar.

Officially on medical leave, 007 pursues clues that he believes might lead him to the Union's inner circle. His search takes him from the seedy underbelly of London's Soho to the souks of Tangier; from a terrorist training camp in Morocco to a bullring in Spain; and from the clutches of a murderous Spanish beauty to a volatile summit conference on the Rock of Gibraltar. Each step brings him closer to the truth about the Union's elaborate, audacious plot to destroy both SIS and its best agent: James Bond.

4 out of 5 stars Doubleshot pretty good book!.......2005-07-09

Reading Doubleshot wasn't as good as High Time to Kill but was still good. There was more of a complex plot in this one, but it didn't really fell like it was really James Bond in the book. In Doubleshot Bond finds himself going renegade, and gets black mailed for some murders by the Union. Not to mention a head injury obtained on his last mission, which gives Bond a splitting head ace throughout the book. If your really looking for something different with James Bond read Remond Benson's Doubleshot.

4 out of 5 stars A good read, Bond is back to basics..........2003-04-22

If you're a fan of the Bond that was charming, adventerous, action-packed, and a hit with the ladies then this book is for you. Once you start, you can't stop reading this.

4 out of 5 stars Close To Comfort.......2003-03-05

This is a good Benson effort. Bond is a real person in this book with emotions and feelings. The bad guys are cruel and evil which makes the classic confrontation all that much better for the reader. This is a good one.

4 out of 5 stars Double the fun with this tale of James Bond!.......2002-12-03

Doubleshot is the 4th novel of the newest Bond writer, Raymond Benson. It follows after the terrifc High Time to Kill, and continues the trilogy that was started there. A darker tale of suspense and intrigue.

James Bond is recovering after the deadly mission in the Himalayas, but scans show that there is a lesion in his brain. He continuously blacks out and thinks he can see his dead wife, Tracy. Bond may finally losing it. He disregards orders and begins to search the case of Helena Marksbury, who was a Union agant. He asks help for his problems of Dr. Feare, but while with her, he blacks out and wakes up to find her murdered, with him as the prime suspect. He travels to Tangier and goes undercover to hear of a possible Union base in Casablanca. He finds out that someone that looks exactly like him has murdered many people on a British ferry, but the trouble is that he can't prove to anyone that he isn't doing the killings. Bond meets Heidi and Hedy Taunt and explains to them and M that a Domingo Espada is planning something at Gibralter, possibly having to do with peace-talks going on there. Bond and the Taunt sisters travel to Spain to check on Espada on one of his bull-fighting rings. Bond is captured and told how his has been manipulated all along to think he was going crazy and to make him look like he was murdering innocent people. Espada works for the Union, and wants to humiliate bond, kill the the prime ministers at the peace-talks, reclaim Gibralter for Spain and increase the power of the Union. Bond escapes, and meets and kills the person who was impersonating him for the killings. Bond and the Taunt sisters make it to the peace-talks, kill Espada and foil the plans once again for the Union.

Doubleshot is a very different style of a Bond book and may not appeal to all. A must for hardcore fans like myself and others who like to read all about the daring assignments of James Bond, agent 007!
