This lovely book, through its tender prose and wonderful illustrations, reminds us that love and respect are the most enduring legacy we can give our children. The timeless message: from infancy in the security of our parents' arms, to the time we must be strong for our elders, the child who is loved is able to return that gift, again and again.

The Grandfather doesn't make it.......2007-03-04

You cannot read this without crying. Believe me! With that in mind, how the heck do you read it to a young child without him/her seeing you loose it? Definitely NOT a bedtime story book.

This book is for a parent who wants to read something that deeply expresses how they feel about their children and then cry about it.

I prefer to let my child/grandchildren know how I feel without the melodrama (and potential associated psychological damage).

I gave 3 stars because the illustrations are true art.

This is a love poem from parent to child. The poem lets the child know that the parent will always love them. No matter how old the child gets he will still be a child that is loved by his parents. There is a page where the parent is now a old lay and the son brings his children to visit. The illustrations show the grandchild gets the grandma's cane for her. This was my favorite part because my kids to this for MY grandmother each time we visit!

This captured what is in the heart of parents every where. Children grow up fast and we need to let them know how much they mean to us.

Yes It would make a great bed time story.

A Sequel - Not as Powerful.......2004-11-25

Hold the Dream is the sequel to "A Woman of Substance". While it does document the next generation, the flaws are sort of obvious, and hold no real threat to the empire Emma Harte built.

Frankly, the threats Paula faces after taking control of the busines empire Emma built are pretty minor-leauge. The betrayal of two cousins, the worthlessness of her Fairly husband, and a few problems along the way are nothing compared to Emma's struggles.

Indeed, I was left wondering if Paula's eventual decision to marry her lover Shane would work at all. Would either be content with their own empire - or would each try to dominate the other.

I hope the novel was a bridge work to "to be the best",but I can't help but wonder at the wisdom of following AWOS any further. I don't think it was worth it.

A Continuing Saga.......2004-09-02

Hold the Dream is the continuing saga of Emma Harte and her vast empire. This book picks up where A Woman of Substance ended. The focus of this book is Emma and her grandchilden with Paula taking over as the head of the family. This is a family that still doesn't get along and has more than it's fair share of jealously, lies, and backstabbing mixed in with love, happiness, and grief. This is a well-written book that keeps the reader interested in this family and all of their successes and failures. A must read for any fan of A Woman of Substance.

This book runs a poor second to a Woman of Substance. Bradford should have quit while she was ahead.

Couldn't put it down!.......2004-04-21

I loved this book, but I'm reading them backwards. I started with the last book in the series, this one is the second. However I loved it. Some people may get confused with all the different ties between the families, but the book is a classic among romance novels. Highly recommended for a good albeit long read.

Women with goals.......2001-01-09

I most certainly enjoyed the book Hold the Dream. I read the book about a year ago and my only regret was that I was not able to get all the books in this set for I only read the one part. I like women who know what they want and set their goals to achieve it. Women are no longer just homemakers but can be expert bussinesswomen. Keep up the good work.

I highly recommend this book to any reader who loves inspirational romances! Each story combines romance, love, relationships and Christian faith. "Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace" by Veda Boyd Jones conquers love at first sight and its consequences. In Sally Laity's "Once Upon a Dream" the fact that love is not just for the young is dealt with elegantly. "Something Old, Something New" by Yvonne Lehman proves that matchmakers know a thing about love. Louree Lough's "Wrong Church, Wrong Wedding" shows that accidents are not always bad. Each of these stories are great, but "Speak Now.." and "Wrong Church..." are my favorites! Read this book now!

I started reading Jillian Harker's "Oakey:A goodnight kiss" to my daughter when she was about 10 months old, and she and I both fell in love with the little bunny. When I noticed the other books by Jillian on the back cover, I went and ordered this book that same day. The adorable little bunny Oakey is so endearing, these books are a sure favorite for any child. Andy Everitt-Stewart's bright and colorful illustrations make the books an absolute joy to look at, too. A definite thumbs up all around!

How to teach your child to be scared of everything.......2004-12-30

My daughter received this book as a gift. I would not recommend it. There are not many children's books that I do not like, but this is one. The story is of a rabbit and his mother going out for the day and doing a variety of things. At every turn - from walking out the front door of their burrow, to sliding down a playground slide, to walking through the woods- the little boy bunny doesn't want to do it unless his mother promises to hold his hand. I guess the author intended the book to show children that they could do things that make them afraid. But when I read the story to my daughter it seemed like I was communicating to her that unless her mother or father was around to hold her hand through life then she should be very wary of trying anything new. It's not a message that I want to convey to my four year old. I suppose the book might be more appropriate for very young children. I give the book two stars because it is a very nice looking book - the illustratioins are very cute and well-done.

This book has even less good speeches than that of "Graduation Day." There are just too many speeches that are convenient for the speakers and not primarily spoken for the benefits of the graduates. Also, there are a lot of bland speeches.

With this said, there are a few good ones in this book: The speeches by Robert D. Ballard and Marian Wright Edelman are the best. The one by Neil Simon is also pretty good.

The best book so far on graduation speeches is "Graduation Moments."

Great books to get hooked on reading

Powerful and Motivating to Woman.......1998-12-31

I found this entire series to be very powerful and motivating. It is a continuing saga about a woman who rises from nothingness to be a great power and overcomes many obstacles laid before her throughout her life. I cheered for Emma and Paula throughout the stories and I cried for them both also. I don't usually read this style of book but I loved these and have become and great BTB fan!
