Landmark book on detectors.......2005-06-29
Chromatographic Detectors is an excellent landmark reference for practitioners in gas chromatography. The book was written in a fashion that everyone can enjoy and understand the know-how conveyed, almost devoid of technical jargon. The topics of the book are very well organized. Criteria for an ideal detector are well covered along universal and selective gas phase detectors. Offering of balance was nicely done with LC detectors. A must read for those who are serious about gas chromatography. Thank you for writing and putting this excellent reference together!

Description:
A novel method for the non-derivatization liquid chromatographic determination of metals (potassium, aluminium, calcium and magnesium) and organic compounds (ascorbate and aspartate) was developed and validated based on evaporative light scattering detection (ELSD). Separation of calcium, magnesium and aluminium was achieved by the cation exchange column Dionex CS-14 and an aqueous TFA mobile phase according to the following time program: 0-6min TFA 0.96mLL^-^1, 6-7min linear gradient from TFA 0.96-6.4mLL^-^1. Separation of potassium, magnesium and aspartate was achieved by the lipophilic C"1"8 Waters Spherisorb column and isocratic aqueous 0.2mLL^-^1 TFA mobile phase. Separation of sodium, magnesium, ascorbate and citrate was also achieved by the C"1"8 analytical column, according to the following elution program: 0-2.5min aqueous nonafluoropentanoic acid (NFPA) 0.5mLL^-^1; 2.5-3.5min linear gradient from 0.5mLL^-^1 NFPA to 1.0mLL^-^1 TFA. In all cases, evaporation temperature was 70^oC, pressure of the nebulizing gas (nitrogen) 3.5bar, gain 11 and the flow rate 1.0mLmin^-^1. Resolution among calcium and magnesium was 1.8, while for all other separations was >=3.2. Double logarithmic calibration curves were obtained within various ranges from 3-24 to 34-132@mgmL^-^1, and with good correlation (r>0.996). Asymmetry factor ranged from 0.9 to 1.9 and limit of detection from 1.3 (magnesium) to 17@mgmL^-^1 (ascorbate). The developed method was applied for the assay of potassium, magnesium, calcium, aluminium, aspartate and ascorbate in pharmaceuticals and food-supplements. The accuracy of the method was evaluated using spiked samples (%recovery 95-105%, %R.S.D.
<2) and the absence of constant or proportional errors was confirmed by dilution experiments.

In recent years the declaration of estimated uncertainty of measurement has become an integral part of analytical results. This study presents the assessment of results generated within the analysis of selected pesticides represented by carbamates, pyrethroides and azoles, residues of which may be found in treated apples. Multiresidue method used for analysis of spiked samples (residues at levels 0.040-0.163mg/kg) consisted of (i) ethyl acetate extraction, (ii) GPC clean-up and (iii) identification/quantification of residues by GC. Procedures utilizing either conventional (electron-capture, nitrogen-phosphorus) or mass-selective detectors (quadrupole and ion trap analyzer) were evaluated. The results generated through alternative strategies of uncertainty estimation (''bottom-up'', ''top-down'') were compared. Using the ''bottom-up'' approach uncertainty of extraction which comprises two components-(i) repeatability of extraction and (ii) uncertainty of extraction recovery was shown to represent the main source of combined standard uncertainty (values of uncertainty of extraction for tested pesticides ranged from 4.6% to 21.6%). On the other hand, uncertainties associated with the GC calibration (uncertainties of weighing and diluting standards, uncertainties of purity of standards) were not so important (most of them did not exceed 2%). Combined standard uncertainties associated with the described analytical method ranged for individual compounds from 9.3% to 24.3%. Similar values of combined standard uncertainties were obtained using the alternative ''top-down'' approach.

When authors Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins first imagined Left Behind, their goal was to create "...the first fictional portrayal of events that are true to the literal interpretation of Bible prophecy." Left Behind began as a sleeper, starting slowly and building steadily, selling by word of mouth. Eventually the book became a bestseller and LaHaye and Jenkins discovered that the story would take more than one book to tell, so they continued the tale in Tribulation Force.

Book 2 in Left Behind.......2007-10-09
The Left Behind Series is awesome. This book is no exception. It will hold your interest from the first page to the last. You have to read book one first though.
Things slow down..........2007-09-25
In "Tribulation Force" things slow down considerably from the first book. It is probably the dullest book in the entire series, but that does not make it a bad book, and it is still integral to the series as a whole.
This book takes over where the first left off and is in between the rapture and the plagues. Buck Williams, Rayforde Steel, and Chloe Steele have all made decisions to follow Christ, but they are still trying to figure out what that means. With the help of their church pastor and Tribulation Force leader Bruce Barnes they form a group that is determined to stand against the anti-Christ despite all the odds and live a Godly life in times that will become increasingly unGodly.
Buck Williams is still working for the Global weekly and is trying to write as a Christian in w world where Christians get no respect. Hattie is put into a a position next to Nicolae which seems to seperate her more and more from God. Chloe and Buck are contemplating whether or not marriage should be an option since raising children in a world with the anti-Christ reigning doesn't seem like a good idea. Rayford's obedience is tested as he is being led to a lucrative job as being Nicolae's personal pilote.
A lot happens in this book without really happening. If anything this book is the transitional book for the series, it leads the way for the tribulation to come in and the revealing of the anti-Christ. I understand why this book has been rated lower than the others, but that does not mean it is worse than the others, it is just a little bit less eventful. However, if you enjoyed the first book, you will enjoy this one.

Okay, the first book I read in no time, but this one is taking so long. I really can't say much else except it's slow. And if it wasn't part of the series, I probably would stop reading. Please tell me it gets better again in book 3.

From the very first letter of the alphabet that my eyes looked upon inside this series of books, until the very last period of the very last sentence, I was hooked. Each one of these books absorbed my attention like no other book has ever done in my life. Biblically sound, theatrically entertaining, and brilliantly written, the Left Behind books will inspire you to dig into God's word and take the pieces of news from your T.V. screen and match them right smack-dab up with the prophecies of the Bible. Your hair will stand up, your heart will race, and you will find yourself helplessly caught in the suspense. Once you finish one of these books, you will desperately race to your computer screen or your local library to pick up the next one!

Great story line. Lots of drama. The Bible is very clear about what will happen in a macro sense at the end of the age. This series portrays what could happen to real people in a micro sense at the end of time. While fiction, I would not be at all surprised if much of what is in the book actually transpires immediately after the rapture. Highly recommend.
