Book Description
This is a very literate look at the different religions of the world, detailing and comparing each one and finally arriving at the conclusion that there is only one God. The true God is the God Who created the universe in six days and revealed Himself to the Jewish people and sent His only Son to die for the sins of man.

God--will be the most important choice anyone will make.......2007-05-27
The purpose of this book Morris says, "is to help people understand why they should consider and then believe the saving gospel of Jesus Christ."----to help those who have been led astray.
This work is a good introduction to creationism: The first part of the book focuses on the science, where the second half mostly concentrates on the spiritual. Morris also donates a chapter on the influences of world religions. A book on creation would not be complete without discussing the first and second law of thermodynamics: these laws go completely against evolution, and is what one would expect of creation. Also, the evolutionary belief is: religion evolved from animism, to ancestor worship, to polytheism, to monotheism; but the facts are we are devolving from primitive monotheism to pantheism. So it is to say:
"It is either the only true religion [Christianity] or else completely false, so no one can remain neutral concerning it."
So why would so many waste their time or give up their lives on a lie. We haven't.............so:
"Christianity is not really Christianity if its adherents are not diligently trying to win non-Christians to faith in Christ."
God, or no God will be the most important choice anyone will make. Both are left to faith, but with the help of this book and many others like it, we are able to find truth through reason. One or the other is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated.
Wish you well
Scott

Book Description
In 1962, Christian Century asked the well-known Christian writer, C. S. Lewis, to name the books that had most influenced his thought. Among those that Lewis listed was Arthur J. Balfour's Theism and Humanism (1915). This was no passing whim. Almost twenty years earlier, in 1944, Lewis had lamented in "Is Theology Poetry" that Theism was "a book too little read."
Many others shared Lewis' enthusiasm. When Balfour gave the original lectures on which the book was based, some 2,000 people crowded into Bute Hall at the University of Glasgow on a weekday winter afternoons to cheer and laugh. Even more telling, they kept coming back, week after week for all ten speeches. Even the staid Times of London commented on the "wildly enthusiastic" audiences and noted the diversity of those attending, from citizens and students to professors.
Unfortunately, until now the book hasn't been that easy to find. Copies have only been available on the used market and were thus rare and relatively expensive. This newly typeset edition and enhanced makes the book inexpensive and widely available.
Balfour was a talented writer and perhaps the most intelligent British Prime Minister of the twentieth century. During World War One he replaced Winston Churchill as First Lord of the Admiralty and went on to become Foreign Secretary. In the latter office he was responsible for the 1917 Balfour Declaration committing Great Britain to the establishment of a Jewish homeland in Palestine. It is no exaggeration to say that Israel owes its existence to Balfour.
Theism and Humanism is based on a 1914 Gifford Lecture that Balfour gave at the University of Glasgow. All the original text is included along with over 50 pages of additional material. There are 11 sketches of Balfour adapted from political cartoons in Punch magazine. There are four appendices taken from his other writings, including the marvelous "A Catechism for Naturalism" (which sent the arch-agnostic Thomas Huxley, better known as "Darwin's Bulldog," into a fit of rage). There's also a glossary of people and terms mentioned in the book and a detailed index. Finally, this new edition includes brief quotes from Balfour's other writings to highlight what he is saying. The second edition improves on the first by adding to each chapter in the original, the extensive coverage that The Times of London gave to Balfour's original speech. It also includes three letters by C. S. Lewis on themes closely related to Balfour's book.
Balfour's topic is naturalism, the belief that all that exists are natural processes. He challenges those who believe in it to come up with a rationale for what they hold dearest--human reason, human rights, and the importance of art--based solely on naturalism. He believes that cannot be done and summarizes his book in these words:
"My desire has been to show that all we think best in human culture, whether associated with beauty, goodness, or knowledge, requires God for its support, that Humanism without Theism loses more than half its value."
If you like philosophy and provocative ideas, this book is perfect for you. The Cambridge-educated Balfour was very knowledgeable about science. (He was the President of the British Association for the Advancement of Science in 1904 and his brother was a talented scientist.) That makes this book a useful complement to the Oxford-educated Lewis whose specialty was literature.

Book Description
Why is belief in God so common? This book is a search for the source of such beliefs, for the roots of theism, termed prototheism. Prototheism is a science of religion, not a religion. Its notion is that theistic belief is an age-old misconception of an Urge to Life which emerges naturally from deep in humans. This Life Urge is innate in all Life. But in us humans it emerges into consciousness where, rather than being owned as inherent in human nature, it is more often experienced as `faith' and projected out onto gods/God.
The book first looks at how belief in gods may have originated in early humans and evolved into the Greco-Roman religion which dominated the Mediterranean world when Christianity began. The book then suggests how Christianity itself came to dominate the western world. Next it examines the Concepts Christians used back then to explain their world, versus the Concepts that have gained acceptance in just the past few centuries to explain our world today. The book does this by going back to beginnings of the Universe, of Earth, of Life, of animals and of humans to trace evolution's trajectory. Then it surveys what has been learned about brains and consciousness in the past century.
With that updated perspective, the book takes a fresh look at `religion' at how belief in gods/God `out there' might be reinterpreted as a Life Urge that emerges spontaneously in humans and at how a rapport with one's Life Urge might be fostered. And also from that perspective, the book looks at our runaway material culture and suggests a prototheistic ethic consistent with and supportive of evolution's trajectory, as we perceive it.
Throughout, but especially at the outset, the book tries to be sensitive to how theistic beliefs were instilled in most of us and may still linger in the ways we think and conceptualize our world. It suggests ways the reader might `rewire their brain' in making this often arduous paradigm shift. Although addressed to Christians, appendixes speak to Jews and Muslims.

A Worthy Quest.......2006-08-12
Paul Carleton's Concepts analyses history, physics, biology, psychology and economics. At bottom, however, Concepts is about a single philosophical question: how does a skeptic, turned off by the traditional God, find meaning in life? Indeed, how does s/he find a "religion" in the best senses of that word?
Concepts is the result of an intellectual quest on which Carleton embarked when he retired from his business career. It's difficult to imagine a more worthy retirement project. The fruits of his labor can be summed up as follows: "Where does religion come from ... [i]f not from 'out there' [i.e., heaven]? ... My hunch is that it's our own Life Urge which is the sine qua non of all Life and which emerges spontaneously in all Life ... [I]f what's worshipped as 'God' is in fact our own Life Urge, could our 'Life Urge' be the basis of a new or revised religion?"
Indeed, it could -- and it is wonderful to see people who are turned off by traditional faiths look for alternatives, rather than simply proclaiming themselves "atheists" and kissing religion goodbye. As I read this book, however, I wondered why Carleton spent relatively little time addressing other alternatives already available to the skeptic. For example, Spinoza's philosophy posits a "conatus" inside every natural form that strives to persist in its own being, and extols a God devoid of all supernatural substance that encompasses the eternal and infinite in nature. Those who wish to follow in Carleton's footsteps and create religious alternatives of their own are advised to consider carefully the work of Spinoza and other heretical philosophers before starting from scratch. We all should value many types of wheels, but nobody should feel the need to reinvent the concept.
Let the investigations continue.......2005-08-22
This philosophy book details the quest for a believable narrative in light of contemporary science. Carleton has clearly done a fantastic job keeping up with recent scientific developments and uses this to critique the narrative of what we might call fundamental Protestantism. As a complement to this quest two books immediately jump to mind (both of which are in the bibliography) How We Believe : Science, Skepticism, and the Search for God (second edition) by Michael Shermer, and Religion Explained: The Evolutionary Origins of Religious Thought by Pascal Boyer. This book follows the basic position taken in those two books.
In reading the bibliography to get an idea what the book offers I note that certain names I expect to find to address narrative construction issues I find most intriguing, that includes those names associated with the linguistic turn and the "prison house of language" are not in this bibliography. These include names such as Hegel, Wittgenstein and Rorty. This aspect central to postmodern narrative construction is not part of the approach.
As a result the book is interesting but the author misses something important. This is evident in the very description of the issues brought up. For example, Carleton explains he is an ex-Catholic and why. This strikes me as defining Carleton as a fundamentalist scientist doing philosophy. By chapter 4 this is even more convincing. Carleton is a scientific fundamentalist in the sense that he is applying contemporary science to revise the narratives from which we traditionally derive our values in much the same way that others have without the insights that come from the linguistic turn. This approach ignores the nature of language, language games, and narrative construction - I am thinking of examples such as Wittgenstein and Quine in this respect, though the whole movement from Hume through Kant and Hegel which sets up the linguistic turn are important. If Carleton would consider the nature of what he is constructing from the standpoint of language analysis and narrative construction, and so recognize "the prison house of language" within which he is working this would come to a better end. An excellent example of how this point would change the outcome concerns Carleton's use of the metaphor of the solar system and the geo-centered system as the typical icon of progress. Yet relativity gives us the view of both of these as mirror image models both useful in different contexts - they are different perspectives on the same thing, while Einstein gives us still another view, both earth and sun are traveling in a straight line while space is curved, and there are still others each of which are useful for certain purposes. The paradigm of relativity when applied across the board, especially when it comes to knowledge and what can be known, would lead to a more successful narrative I think. An example of a scientist that does do this is Stuart Kauffman. (See Investigations by Stuart A. Kauffman) This is important since remaining a skeptic strikes me as a very uncomfortable place to be - I think of Hegel's description of the "unhappy consciousness" in this regard. Einstein and Godel both viewed things from their paradigm in a way that led to better things. (See Incompleteness by Rebecca Goldstein for a wonderful description of this.) This is a good book and leads to an avid desire that the investigations continue!
The "Life Urge" Comes From Within.......2005-06-25
This unusual book advocates a science of religion, "Prototheism." The author is careful to point out that he is not advocating Prototheism as a new religion, but as the SCIENCE of religion, a subtle but important distinction. Prototheism does not rely on on extant God, but instead puts all its marbles on a "Life Urge" that inhabits all living things - a living thing being any complex collection of molecules above RNA. Unlike religions, Prototheism is amenable to changes in its tenets in response to new discoveries in science.
From page 184: "Life initially emerged from Earth's matter nearly four-billion years ago as molecules randomly rearranged themselves to better withstand adversity. Other molecules adopted the practice and elaborated on it, passing their ever more complex and elegant arrangements on to other macromolecules - they replicated. What was a reaction became a PROaction, a way-of-life, a Life Urge...as this Urge to Life experienced ever greater adversity, it found ever more elegant solutions - synergistic arrangements of complex structures...as nervous systems became more elaborate they became brains and finally brains became reflexive - consciousness emerged. All Life is innately aware of its Life Urge else it wouldn't be alive...we conscious humans can not only revel in Life but can choose to help carry Life's evolution forward."
The fallacy with this lies in how to scientifically identify the "Life Urge." Without that, Prototheism has nothing to study. The author presents supporting literature from brain studies but they do not impress me as "hard data." Dennett's (Darwin's Dangerous Idea) coined term "sky hooks" describes the tendency to ascribe to God that which cannot (as yet) be explained otherwise, that eludes explanation - a "God of the Gaps." The author relied on religion for a large part of his life and then abandoned it. Rather than searching externally for God, Carleton now looks internally to the "Life Urge." I would question the need to look at all - there are many other explanations (Boyer's "Religion Explained," Atran's "In Gods We Trust"). Among other things, whether a non-religious individual perceives an unfilled void depends on his/her personality and on the role religion played in his early life.
The author is a former Catholic with a rather rigid Jesuit upbringing during the last parts of the depression. In his adult life an "epiphany" or two caused him to leave his leadership role in his church. He is an engineer with an MBA and has always been interested in science. In his retirement he embarked on a more extensive study of science resulting in this book. In Prototheism, he postulates that an innate Urge to Life has always been misinterpreted by humans as an external God which doesn't exist. He is not unduly unkind to religions, and suggests to any non-fundamentalists (realising he is never going to be successful with fundamentalists of any sort) how his idea of a SCIENCE of religion might appeal to them regardless of their current affiliation - including those of Jewish or Islam faith. The closest religion to his liking appears to be Universal Unitarianism, except that it has no "overarching doctrine." His excerpt about their belief system does seem to match his ethical thoughts.
With that out of the way, might I say a few words about how truly impressive this book is. The first half is devoted to some of the best summaries of large disciplines of study I have ever read. The bibliography and his frequent personal comments reveal the untold hours of research, rewrites, and care that went into trying to make clear these difficult concepts. These are 1) a synthesis of early Christianity 2) cosmology and quantum physics 3) life's beginnings 4) animal evolution 5) human evolution 6) brain development & consciousness. He appears to be completely mainstream, with the possible exception that 1) He seems to accept group selection 2) He relies on "synergy" as the core of the Life Urge, but is not convincing 3) He suggests a tentative mechanism for ESP.
In addition to 254 pages of text, there are 106 pages of "Notes," very conveniently arranged, extensively documenting his sources and providing additional information in a talkative format. I looked forward to these sections and read each one after finishing the corresponding chapter. The "Life Urge" is partially referenced to other authors, although "prototheism" is entirely his own.
This can be a challenging read in spots for the scientific novice but well worth the effort. I frequently saw him leading up to a given topic and eagerly anticipated how he was going to develop it - his many autobiographical inserts adding flavor. The undertaking of this book was an obvious labor of love and I commend the author for such a well thought out and presented result.
An enthusiastic 5 stars!!
Thoughts on the origin and nature of today's religions.......2004-11-17
As the author is quick to point out, an obvious characteristic of life is purposefulness. As living creatures, we all have a sense, either unconscious, conscious, or both, of purpose. But how does this purposefulness, or "Life-Urge" fit into how we view ourselves, from a religious point of view?
Carleton says there are four main ways in which people can do this. First, one can view oneself as "Me." That is, the sense of purpose is one's own purpose and no more. Second, one can view oneself as a living being among many living beings, all of whom have a sense of purpose. Third, one can view oneself as part of Life, which has a unified Purpose (basically, a Buddhist point of view). Fourth, one can view oneself as an entity whose purpose is secondary to what really counts, namely one or more Goddesses or Gods and Her, His, or Their Purpose. The author strongly prefers the second of these viewpoints, which he calls "prototheism."
This idea is contrasted with what today is practically a majority concept, namely the fourth point of view: ascribing the Life Urge to a single Deity. Of course, monotheistic religions today generally prescribe specific theologies, sets of beliefs, and practices to vast numbers of people. But Carleton shows that even now, there are alternatives for people who want more flexibilty, freedom, or privacy in their religious practices.
Still, all this is the icing on the cake. I left out decribing the cake, namely the initial chapters of the book. Here, Carleton starts with an excellent summary of the origin of Catholic Christianity (there are appendices that discuss Protestantism, Judaism, and Islam). He starts with the origin of the concept of deities, but adds that when one considers, say, fire to be a deity, it "closes out any attempt to learn the true nature of fire."
Given the tendency for origins to be viewed in religious ways, Carleton gives some more excellent summaries....of the way we view origins scientifically. In roughly sixty impressive pages, he covers the origin of our Universe, the origin of the Earth, the origin of life on Earth, the evolution of life to arrive at humans, and the origin of human society and of societal theistic beliefs (if you think all this is easy to write, you try it). After that, he speculates about the attributes of the conscious and unconscious parts of our thinking and responses, and how that has contributed to our sense of purpose and of religion.
So what is to be done about the fact that much of the world is monotheistic today? Carleton basically advises tolerance, not potentially risky and disruptive confrontation. Attitudes are changing. Let them. His recommendations are to move in a direction (towards prototheism) that he feels we are heading in anyway.
I recommend this book. Nobody is going to agree with every single point in it, but it has plenty for us all to think about.
Intellectual Exploration.......2004-10-20
If you are breaking down the walls of a dogma-ridden religious indoctrination and want a guide and traveling companion as you explore the terrain outside the boundaries, you may find Concepts a useful tool for your journey. Carleton's friendly, personal writing style, and his use of anecdotes from his own life to illustrate points he is crafting, makes reading fairly easy for such a heady and comprehensive topic. Although I didn't always agree with the author's assumptions or conclusions, I found many of his arguments thought provoking. He obviously loves his subject and has given it a great deal of thought. If your touchstone is science, and you like reading that is weighted toward the intellectual, you may find many useful jewels in this wide-ranging exploration.

Corey is an exceptionally gifted thinker.......2005-01-19
Dear Dr. Corey,
I swear, you would make a great X-file episode. How is it humanly possible to not only "KNOW OF" every single position, on every single scientific topic ever cogitated by mankind, but to also posess and in-detpth "COMPREHENSION OF" every single position as well?? I marvel when I thumb throgh the bibliographies in the back of your books. You are the scientific equivalent of Bach. I remember reading one time, that it would take a highly skilled transcriptionist 80 years to simply HAND COPY, all the works of Bach..Let alone create them-all in a single lifetime!! When Bach was asked of his musical fecundity, he commented "the music doesn't come FROM me, but rather THROUGH me. This is you to a "T". Cannot everybody see, that you are an anomoly, a super human? One of those figures that show up in history every few hundred years? God created you to both TEACH and INSPIRE.
A life-saver for modern christian intellectuals.......1998-07-14
I read this book for the preparation of an in-class discussion of Evolution in a university biology course. Well, lucky me (possibly by God's Grace), I find that book by M A Corey who smartly and intelligently reconcile both the "fact of evolution" and "the truth of Bible". His sound arguments based on modern cosmology, quantum physics, relativity, and biology neatly demonstrates how the "Science" discoveries really is "Supporting" the Bible accounts of creation rather than denying it. M. A. Corey is the new Hero of our time in terms of liberating the long-withstanding, painful struggles of christian intellects from those stubborn, over-defensive approach of some rigid kind of "religious authority" who had also burnt Galileo on a stick.

Oprah Book Club® Selection, October 1997: Gibbons's novel, A Virtuous Woman, takes place in the same hardscrabble part of the world as Ellen Foster. The virtuous woman is Ruby Pitt Woodrow, a woman who might have ended up like Ellen Foster's mother if fate, in the shape of Jack Stokes, hadn't crossed her path. The daughter of prosperous farmers, Ruby runs off with a migrant worker who treats her badly, then abandons her far from home. When she meets Jack, a man 20 years her senior, she's working as a cleaning woman in another prosperous farmer's house. Jack is a man women don't look at even once, let alone twice; Ruby is a woman who needs someone to take care of her. Out of this unlikely union grows a quiet kind of love that is no less powerful for being unstated.
Ellen Foster and A Virtuous Woman share more than just location and a few characters in common. Though each is a complete novel in and of itself, taken together the two books resonate one another: Ellen Foster and Ruby Pitt Woodrow are both damaged people who find the kind of love they need to heal. These multilayered novels are tough-minded and resolutely unsentimental, just like their protagonists. Yet like Ellen and Ruby, each contains a nut of sweetness at its core that takes the bitter edge off the hard lives and hard stories Kaye Gibbons has to tell.
Book Description
When Blinking Jack Stokes met Ruby Pitt Woodrow, she was twenty and he was forty. She was the carefully raised daughter of Carolina gentry and he was a skinny tenant farmer who had never owned anything in his life. She was newly widowed after a disastrous marriage to a brutal drifter. He had never asked a woman to do more than help him hitch a mule. They didn't fall in love so much as they simply found each other and held on for dear life.
Kaye Gibbons's first novel,
Ellen Foster, won the Sue Kaufman Prize for First Fiction from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters and the praise of writers from Walker Percy to Eudora Welty. In
A Virtuous Woman, Gibbons transcends her early promise, creating a multilayered and indelibly convincing portrait of two seemingly ill-matched people who somehow miraculously make a marriage.

Southern Voices Echo.......2007-06-29
If the theme and heart-felt stories of Souhern souls resonate within your own soul, this is a wonderful read for you. It dares to probe the inner worlds of people in ways you will never forget. Another excellent read from a Southern voice about love, faith and the struggle to become whole can be found in Walking the Trail, One Man's Journey Along the Cherokee Trail of Tears by Cherokee and Alabama author Jerry Ellis. The book was nominated for a Pulitzer and was featured in Readers Digest.
Sad but Sweet Little Story.......2007-06-08
"A Virtuous Woman" is a short novel about an unlikely married couple who really make it work and come to depend on each other. The woman, Ruby, is 20 years younger than her husband, Jack. Ruby is dying of lung cancer, and the story is told by both Jack and Ruby in alternating chapters.
The writing style is similar to that we loved about "Ellen Foster." It's a fast read. But be careful. Don't read the ending on a bus or in a carpool, and have plenty of tissues on hand.
Highly recommended.
Can't get into the book.......2007-03-08
I am an avid reader and love all kinds of books. I thought that since this one was listed in the "Oprah Book Club" that surely it must be good. I got to the third chapter and was bored. I put it down and have not been tempted to pick it back up. When they tell you on the first page that the woman you are reading about has died, it kinda puts the light out on wanting to read the book. You already know she is going to die.
A Virtuous woman.......2007-02-22
I really did not care for this book very much at all. I found it to be pointless. It is a quick read but at the end of the day what was the point? I am not sure. I did not connect with the characters and when it it all said and done felt like who cares???
moving, wonderful.......2007-01-07
She packed a lot of wallop in this short book. I felt like I'd had a cold punch to the ribs when I finished. It was a bitter sweet feeling though, I knew there was hope. She used the device of switching point of view between the two main characters, man and wife, chapter by chapter until the end when she increased the technique to a fever pitch. She chronicled the last few weeks before the wife dies of cancer, and the first few weeks for him after she dies. Her focus is not on the disease so much as an exploration of their love and reliance on one another. Profoundly moving, sad, sweet, and really well told.

Book Description
Does the woman in Proverbs 31 make you feel like a sluggard?
For years Christian women have struggled to understand what the Proverbs 31 woman was all about. Instead of encouragement or instruction, for most, this passage offered "more guilt than eating a one-pound bag of M&Ms." Is this the ideal woman? Or is the Proverbs 31 woman an outdated fixture of the past?
Vicki Courtney believes that this passage is not in the Bible by accident and that a virtuous woman is a rare find in today's world. Join Vicki as she sojourns with you to unravel the mystery behind the Proverbs 31 woman.

TRIED TO ELLEVIATE GUILT IN WOMEN AND JUST LEFT EXCUSES.......2007-03-19
I realize that the Proverbs 31 woman is awe inspiring, but she wouldn't be in the Bible if she weren't someone to emulate. Mrs. Courtney seemed to give excuses as to why and how we can't be like her, sooth our frustrations and give us very watered ways to improve our pathetic lives. This book was ineffective and unhelpful. It didn't make me want to be like this beautiful woman - only how to make excuses for myself as to why I can't.
Excellent Book!.......2006-12-03
From the moment I started this book, I knew it was going to teach me... and it did.
When you first read the bible and these verses, it is extremely intimidating. These days, who actually buys sheep, makes their own thread and then makes clothes and bedding with it?
This book has 12 chapters, each chapter discusses major points drawn from the Proverbs 31 passage about being a virtuous woman. Something I like about this book, is that it uses other verses of the bible to make a point. This book has high impact.
With the help of this book by Vicki Courtney, I've learned I am not that bad... I have a long way to go, but, with the help of God, I can get there -- I can be a virtuous woman.
Wondermus!!!!.......2006-10-02
I thought this book was terrific. It helped me as a woman to see that the virtuous woman spoken of in proverbs was an idea of the perfect woman that God desires. It validated me in ways that helped me overcome insecurities and feelings of inadequacy about being a woman in general. God has provided us with a wonderful model of the virtousity that He desires in a wife for the GOD-man! Vicki Courtney does a fabulous job at showing that she too is a work in progress. Thanks for sharing your insight with us all Vicki.
great book!.......2006-07-13
I have always been intimidated by the "proverbs 31 woman" But Vicky Courtney does a great job bringing her down to earth and giving real life advice on how to follow God's ideals. I suggest this book for all women who are tired of trying to be "superwoman"
Very Practical!.......2006-06-29
I have really enjoyed using this book with my mom's group Bible study. It is very applicable and practical. It is thought-provoking and very funny.

From Ruby to Grace.......2006-03-01
Gilbert Morris (and I assume the other writer) excells at characters. The characters: they're real, they're deep, they cry, and they're not afraid to cry. The story starts out with a tragedy and shows how family love can heal some pretty deep wounds. Kevin Winslow and Grace Winslow have every reason to withdraw from the world, but they must learn to face people to realize their dreams.
A terrific inspirational House of Winslow historical tale. .......2004-12-28
In 1935, a dying convict Bertha Zale confesses to the chaplain of New York State Women's Prison Father Anthony Mazzoni that she committed a terrible sin. In 1916 at the City Hospital, Bertha's baby died and she switched her infant for another. The Father does some research and realizes that a Grace Winslow, daughter of fifty something renowned artist Phil and his wife Cara died that day. He believes Bertha's s dying confession substantiated by information and informs the Winslows of what he heard and learned.
The Winslows hire Francis Key who locates Grace known as Ruby. He has a hard time persuading her, but to escape her brute of a boyfriend she agrees to take the train across the country to Long Island to meet the Winslows. In New York, her three siblings react differently, Brian and Paige have doubts that this street kid belongs in their upper class lifestyle and besides that makes one more person to split the inheritance with. The other brother Brian, who suffered a scarring facial injury as a teen welcomes her into the family. How will the family members adapt to this rough newcomer?
This is a terrific inspirational House of Winslow historical tale. The interrelationships between the various members of the Winslow family with each other and with three beaus including Francis, but especially with Grace are realistic, honest and exciting to follow as each will need to turn to Jesus for their personal solace. Fans will appreciate Gilbert Morris' latest winner that brings alive the 1930s Long island lifestyle in a warm upbeat way.

Awesome.......2006-03-29
Pastor Taffi illuminates the journey of becoming a virtuous woman! So often, we live in a pseudo-realistic society, thinking that we can attain such a title; void of understanding. I lived in such a world for many years, until I linked up with the teachings of Pastors Creflo and Taffi Dollar. God has a plan for your life. It does not profit, allowing the world system, with all of its quirks and hoops to define you---God's plan is the best plan and His plan is Virtuous! Read it! Seek God for His plan for your life! Your life will be changed! How do I know this to be true? I'm here!

Get Out of That Pit: Straight Talk about God's Deliverance
ASIN: 1598727397
Release Date: 2007-05-01 |
Product Description
Who can find a virtuous woman? Her price is far above rubies. Women are more precious than jewels. That's what the bible says. Yet, far too many women live their lives as though they are worthless. Women What the Hell are You Thinking was written to provide women with the inspiration to get out of their present situations. "I have been a pregnant teenager and a single mother. I have lived from paycheck to paycheck and I have been in an abusive relationship. It wasn't until I took responsibility for my choices that I was able to make a change. Blaming others for your circumstances, (my husband is abusive, my boyfriend got me pregnant and left), are all only excuses for staying in the pit that is your life. I chose to forgive those that had mistreated me and I used those experiences to rise above my circumstances and persevere much like the biblical characters that I write about in the book." It is Mrs. Donovan's hope that through this book women will see that their current circumstances don't have to be permanent. The book uses well learned life lessons as well as biblical principles to provide women with tools that can eventually propel them up and out of hopelessness, fear, and dismay.
