so much potential.......2007-10-09
this one is a mixed bag. overall, i enjoyed reading it but it could hae been so much better. cornelia, who some reviewers have described as unlikable, was at least a really irritating narrator. she drops old movie references heavily- several to a page. she talks directly to the reader, overexplaining her motives and trying to win you over to her side. she comes across as vain and self-centered. she seems utterly convinced of her own wittiness and demands the reader agree. clare is more likable, although even as a precocious child she isn't believably 11. the dialogue tries too hard to be witty; the plot twists are pure fantasy.
that said, there is a lot to reccommend this book. much of the emotion rings true. the relationship between cornelia and martin, her wanting to fall in love with him, her struggle to decide how much of a person's flaws you learn to accept in love- this felt very real. clare's relationships with her parents and cornelia rang true.
all in all, this is a light read. i feel like it tries to be meaningful and fails. it is fun, not life-changing.
Really disappointing and actually very boring...........2007-09-28
I was really hoping to agree with most of the reviews about this book. But once I got started reading it it got really boring fast. In my opinion the author overused movie actors & actresses, book titles and even songs. The first half of the book consisted of mostly references to them, and while I mostly enjoy a few references this book was flooded with them. The second half of the book was much better than the first half. Even though I found the ending to be predictable and I was very glad to have it end.
I do feel the general sense of genuine true love is evident in this book, and the story itself is heartwarming. However, I don't think I will be reading any other books from this author.
Good book with one huge problem.......2007-09-26
Love Walked In was a beautiful book. I loved Clare and Cornelia's relationship - they were well-defined characters - and I always love a good ending. Ms. De Los Santos ending was practical, though I would have loved to have seen Clare end up with Cornelia and Teo. I realize that's unrealistic, though.
My only problem with this almost perfect book is the disrespect she has for God. I couldn't stand when Ms. De Los Santos used God and Jesus' names disrespectfully - that really bothered me and it was so unnecessary. Love Walked In will never be a classic because the author, for no reason, trashed a few of the pages. Most of us in the world love God, Jesus and the Holy Spirt and we count our blessings. Ms. De Los Santos has received the gift of writing and she should be thankful instead of degrading the One Who gave her this gift.
If you love books and movies, this is the book.......2007-09-20
This book is a joy if you read and read broadly. If your knowledge of older films is complete, so much the better. If you do not read across genres, I suspect this will be a fairly ordinary novel. I think the particular charm is that it is a book about readers.
It does have fine characterization.
PRETTY GOOD.......2007-09-18
I FOUND THIS BOOK PRETTY GOOD. I ENJOYED THE WRITING TECHNIQUE, GOING FROM CORNELIA TO CLAIRE. IT IS TRUE AS ANOTHER REVIEW POINTED OUT, THERE IS A HAPPY EVERY THINGS PERFECT ENDING,BUT ITS FICTION. MY MAIN PROBLEM WITH THIS IS THE SWEARING AND THE UNNECESSITY OF IT. ITS INAPPROIATE AND INSULTING TO CHRISTIANS TO HEAR THEM SAYING JC AND GD.

Learning How to Love.......2006-02-22
The Gospels tell us that when Jesus saw the crowds he had compassion on them. He touched lepers. He spoke to women. He had dinner with outcasts. He forgave his enemies. He died for them too. Paul Miller's book provides a stirring study of how Jesus loved people. This book will help those who seek practical help in learning how to love fellow sinners in the likeness of the one "who loved us and gave himself for us" (Galatians 2:20).
the next book you read could save your life.......2005-10-24
Our church started a Bible study for young adults (18-25) about two years ago. This book was our first course of discussion and learning. We didn't have to read the book to participate in the study, but I did. The book is incredible. Paul uses excellent Scripture references that relate to situations everyone faces today. He puts Jesus as a character in our lives and interactions with other people and not only as a historical figure. Seriously, this book can and will change your life.
Jesus steps off the pages of this book..........2004-01-23
and into your life. As I read this book it as if I am there, experiencing the moment. Nothing has made Jesus Christ more human to me than this book. Nothing has made Jesus Christ more divine to me than this book. I highly recommend this book to all.
A Must Read.......2002-07-11
This is an incredible book that not only reaches to the depths of the heart by capturing the amazing, incomprehensible love of Jesus, but at the same time convicts us of how short we fall in loving others. This is one of the most impactful books I've read about the reality of Jesus' love for us and how that can be applied as we desire to love others. Paul Miller's transparency and real life examples result in an ease of reading many books lack. This is a must read! Expect to be transformed!
The Heart of Compassion!.......2001-12-27
Wow! Throughout this entire book you'll find yourself walking in other people's shoes, feeling what they feel. Understanding what true compassion really is. Knowing what real Love is! All my life I felt I had an understanding of what it meant for Jesus to bear the cross for me. But, after reading "Love Walked Among Us" it has taken on a whole new meaning for me. Understanding that He was just a man, a physical human being I was able to put myself in His shoes. I could feel the mental pain of being betrayed, abandoned, alone. This alone would be enough to give up. But then, to have to endure such physical pain is unbearable! This book will help you see the outcast at work, feel compassion for him/her and reach out with the love of Jesus.

a strong story of faith in God and each other .......2007-04-24
Courtesy of CK2S Kwips and Kritiques
Beth Carlson is a shy young woman whose entire life revolves around her teenaged son, Max. When she moves across town to a new apartment and hopefully a new life, her plans are challenged by her handsome neighbor, Clay Reynolds. He affects her like no one has in a very long time but the last thing she needs is a motorcycle riding drifter who takes it upon himself tell her how to raise her son and to be a one man committee to turn her to the church. She turned her back on that way of life many years ago and swears Christians are not all they proclaim to be.
Clay is only in town temporarily, helping a pregnant friend manage her foundation. He certainly doesn't need any strings to tie him down. Especially when the only woman to catch his eye has absolutely no interest in growing in Christ. However, when he catches max in a compromising act, he begins to wonder if his real mission is to help Beth and Max overcome her past and turn their hearts to God. Can Clay and Beth overcome the obstacles to find happiness together in Christ?
I'll be honest, after all isn't that what a review is for? I had a difficult time getting interested in this story. Some aspects of the novel I truly enjoyed. Oddly enough, those parts I enjoyed were not the romance at all, but the other kinds of relationships in the story.
I thought the story surrounding Max was very well done, painting him realistically as a troubled teen having a hard time finding his place in the world. He gives in to temptation more than once throughout the story but with a little help from Clay finally comes around. Once Max found his place in the church and turned his life over to God, he was suddenly happy once more and secure in his life.
Except for being able to empathize with Beth's feelings about religion, I did not really like her very much. I thought the conflict between she and Clay was too contrived and such a minor thing. I wanted to tell her to get over it already. Her biggest problem with Clay was that he rode a motorcycle. Max's father was a motorcycle riding older boy who used Beth and cast her aside when he got what he wanted, and totally turned his back on her and their unborn child. Because of this, Beth was convinced that every motor cycle riding man was a cad of the worst sort. So because Clay rode a bike, he was a bad person too. I got so tired of this refrain throughout the book that I almost put it down once or twice.
My other issue with this book was that it was a bit too preachy for me. I totally understand the concept of the Love Inspired line of books and know that faith must play a strong role in the story. But this one I felt was beating me over the head with the preaching. I'm Christian and have a strong faith but I don't like having religion shoved down my throat. Love Walked In was a little too heavy on that for me to really like it.
I accepted Beth's faith issues very well and thought her story about why she turned from Christianity was beautifully done. In her experience, Christians really were hypocrites and she had a very hard time accepting that most believers are very committed to their faith and each other. After all, her own father was the preacher at their church who scorned her and threw her out when he discovered she was pregnant as a teenager. The entire congregation of her church had the same harsh reaction. She very stubbornly held on to her opinions and it was only through her friends in Pinecrest that she finally could be reborn in Christ. This was an extremely touching story and her acceptance may very well bring tears to your eyes.
Love Walked In tells a strong story of faith in God and each other even if the delivery was a little overdone.

Sweet Love Story.......2006-12-12
Beth Carlson is immediately put on guard by her new neighbor, Clay Reynolds. He has long hair, rides a motorcycle, and keeps talking about church. With her past, Clay is the last person she needs in her life, or her teenaged son's.
Clay is in town working a temporary legal assignment. He likes his lifestyle of keeping few ties so he can take assignments wherever they come up. But meeting Beth has him stumped. Something about her pulls at him, but he knows they can't be more than friends: he travels constantly, and she doesn't want anything to do with God or church. So why can't he get her out of his mind?
Merrillee Whren delivers another heartfelt love story grounded in faith, with the promise of forgiveness as a central theme. While this in not Whren's strongest work, this story is sweet, the message gentle. Fans of inspirational romance will enjoy the small-town setting in the Pacific Northwest, as well as returning characters from a previous title, THE HEART'S HOMECOMING.

Excellent, very inspiring book!.......2000-09-17
Ed Carlson's book is a beautiful reminder of our ONENESS!
Life Changing.......2000-06-05
It saddens me to see that the greatest teacher I have known in my life is so little known. We hear so often of the pristine enlightened masters who attained enlightenment through years of tortuous discipline and virtue, but we don't hear too often of the masters who still partake in "earthly pleasures". The heros that truly follow their hearts, even if it leads them down unorthodox paths, aren't sung because of taboo. But sometimes these people are the freshest reminder that "I'm not a horrible person for being human". The message to me was clear at any rate, and my life will never be the same. Love.
Radiant.......1999-06-02
Truly an inspiration to know this man and how he has dedicated his life. You can feel his radiance and it comes through in the book. I had tension and anger while driving in heavy traffic. He gave me a tranquilty stone to soothe the tensions. This was 16 years ago, I still have that stone and it works. God Bless you Ed.
