Book Description
Protein structure and design is an area of burgeoning interest. This stems from our being able to create novel proteins at will using the methods of protein engineering and the potential of such proteins in a host of applications ranging from pharmaceuticals to environmentally friendly insecticides. At the same time enormous advances in techniques such as X-ray crystallography, NMR and computer-based modeling are enabling us to define protein structure and properties an undertake redesign with increased assurance. The focus of this volume is on the use of biophysical techniques and computer modeling to characterize protein structure, dynamics and function. Up-to-the-minute accounts of protein NMR, protein dynamics, and computational methods in protein design appear alongside the application of optical specotroscopies to unravel the complexities of structure, function and dynamics. Major topics highlighted include: + Recent developments in 2D and 3D NMR spectroscopy + Assignment of proton resonances for large proteins + Isotopic labeling + Molecular dynamics of peptides from NMR studies + Combined experimental and theoretical approaches to protein dynamics + Pico to femtosecond time spans in optical spectroscopy for protein structure studies. This volume is based on the symposium `Expanding Frontiers in Polypeptide and Protein Structural Research' held in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada in July 1990. It was widely felt that the invited presentations by about 60 of the leading experts in NMR, protein dynamics, spectroscopy and modeling defined the state of the art. Their written contributions appear in this volume.

Book Description
Responding to an estimated 14 million cases of food-borne disease that occur every year in the United States alone, the Food and Drug Administration and US Department of Agriculture have begun implementing new regulations and guidance for the microbial testing of foods. Similarly, Europe and other regions are implementing stricter oversight, as foodborne pathogens that cause deadly diseases such as e. coli 0157:H7 have raised the stakes everywhere. Food safety scientists have acted on this growing public health risk by developing improved media for the cultivation of bacteria, fungi, and viruses, much of it geared toward specific rapid detection. Reflecting the development of these new media and the latest FDA recommendations, the second edition of the Handbook of Microbiological Media for the Examination of Food provides an essential resource for anyone involved with the monitoring of both food production and post-production quality control. Organized alphabetically by medium, the expanded edition of this highly respected handbook includes - · Descriptions of nearly 1,400 media including those recommended by the FDA, as well as media used elsewhere in the world · Concise and lucid instructions for the preparation and uses of each of the media · Cross-referenced indexing that allows the media to be found by name or specific microorganism of interest · Descriptions of expected results as they apply to microorganisms of importance for the examination of foods · Common synonyms for the various media and listings of compositions, so that alternate media an be effectively employed when needed Compiled by Ronald M. Book Description
Connectionist accounts of language acquisition, processing, and dissolution proliferate despite attacks from some linguists, cognitive scientists, and engineers. Although the networks of exquisitely interconnected perceptrons postulated by PDP theorists may not be anatomically homologous with actual brain anatomy, a growing body of research suggests that the posited network functions can support many human behaviors. This volume brings together contributors with a variety of backgrounds and perspectives to explore, for the first time, the clinical implications of whole-language connectionist models. Demonstrating that these models are powerful and have explained many phenomena of language acquisition, language therapy, and speech processing, especially at the engineering level, they focus specifically on applications of connectionist theory to delayed language, aphasia, phonological acquisition, and speech perception. Connectionist models, they conclude, offer a new interpretive framework for the discussion of information processing in humans and other animals that will be of great utility to all those who study language and seek to intervene in language disorders.

Book Description
This book is based on the workshop on New Approaches to Learning for Natural Language Processing, held in conjunction with the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence, IJCAI'95, in Montreal, Canada in August 1995.
Most of the 32 papers included in the book are revised selected workshop presentations; some papers were individually solicited from members of the workshop program committee to give the book an overall completeness. Also included, and written with the novice reader in mind, is a comprehensive introductory survey by the volume editors. The volume presents the state of the art in the most promising current approaches to learning for NLP and is thus compulsory reading for researchers in the field or for anyone applying the new techniques to challenging real-world NLP problems.
Book Description
Jim London is outraged over the death of his friend, a fellow cop and werewolf--and wants to get to the bottom of what he thinks was murder. The only way to find out is to go undercover--and, in his wolf form, Jim can do that better than anybody. There's one complication: the new K9 handler, Faith Weston, is sexy enough to bring out the animal in any man.
Customer Reviews:
Enjoyed it!.......2007-08-15
Officer Faith Weston and Jim London's story.
Jim, the werewolf, in dog form, is Faith's police dog. LOL
This story was neat. The characters were cool.
Well written. STEAMY!
Master of Wolves.......2007-04-12
Very good book.Continues the tale from the previous books very nicely. Looking forward to reading the next in the series. Characters entertaining and likeable. Good balance of storyline & romance.
A Wonderful Paranormal With Non-Stop Action.......2007-02-25
Jim needs Faith to trust him. An almost impossible feat, when Jim has to deal with Faith's lack in trust when it comes to men. But she'll need to learn fast for her life may depend on it. Death magic is taking over Clarkston. They're dealing with werewolves, witches and vampires. The two will have to join forces to but a stop to it.
This is a wonderful paranormal with non-stop excitement. The romance between Faith and Jim is down right hot. The fight scenes are terrifyingly real keeping you on the edge of your seat. A definite must read.
Humorous! This dog had me laughing - 3.5 stars.......2007-01-16
Having read the first two "Master" books, I now know what to expect from Angela Knight--sizzling sex, fun characters and plenty of laughs. MASTER OF WOLVES certainly delivers all these and a little more.
Officer Faith Weston has worked with a lot of K-9s. But none as smart as her new partner Rambo, a dog that appears to listen and actually understand what she's saying, including her tirades over her cheating ex-husband. And if any man tries to hit on her, Rambo is always there to rescue her. If only she knew how Rambo secretly pants for her...
When Jim London heard of his best friend's death, his instinct knew that it was no accident. Upon meeting the local cops in Clarkston, South Carolina, every bit of his animal gene screamed foul play and the only way to uncover the truth is to go undercover... but how? Fortunately for him, it appears that the police chief is looking for a new drug dog. How convenient for this alpha-werewolf and what a bonus that his handler is a sexy police officer.
The action continues as Jim and Faith get caught in the hunt for the vampires wreaking havoc in the world, and we get to see the characters from the previous books as they help eliminate the evil in Clarkston. I had fun reading this just as much as I enjoyed reading the first two books, but I thought that this was the best book so far. The characters are likable and I enjoyed reading Rambo's sensual thoughts about Faith. Once again, Knight has penned an action-packed and fast-paced book that will satisfy readers who don't mind fluffy reading. However, be warned that you must read the books in order or you're in for a lot of confusion as the characters are recurring.
Rather over-complicated list of characters with rather superficial personalities.......2006-12-22
The reviews for Angela Knight's books all seem very complimentary so I thought I'd give one a go. I chose "Master Of Wolves" not realising that there are several books in the series before it - this was my first mistake. The book started off well - a man has died and his friend, who also happens to be a werewolf, needs to investigate the local police force as they may have something to do with the death. In order to `go undercover' Jim London becomes a German Shepherd dog and is assigned as a drug dog to handler Faith Weston.
All was going along very swimmingly in reading this book and then the first annoyance - the first month of dog and handler together was ignored. We jumped forward to "a month later" and missed out on all the fun and interest of the story where Jim first meets Faith, how she treats him (as a dog) and other stuff like that. Still, I carried on.
And very quickly I was VERY confused. This was not just a story about werewolves but about witches (Maja), Arthur, Merlin, Avalon, Guinevere, the Round Table, Vampires, the holy grail and some other grails... and although our lead characters Jim and Faith were central to this story they weren't entirely central to the plot, a lot of which carried on without them. The other characters (the witch/Arthurian ones) have obviously been in previous books but, not having read them, I didn't really know enough about them to engage with them.
Magic is used a lot in this book to deal with difficulties in plotting. If in doubt, cast a spell and something can happen. This is a common problem in this kind of novel (at least I think so) where magic is used to move the story along. This book was meant to be about werewolves and although there was some interesting worldbuilding about the werewolves there was too much other stuff going on.
Jim and Faith have a lot of sex in this book (once she discovers he's not just a German Shepherd dog, of course). In fact, most of their relationship seems to be about sex - and about him telling her over and over again that he's not like Ron her ex-husband. Apart from that they didn't really seem to connect. They fell in love (of course, this is a Romance book!) but I couldn't entirely see why - we were told a lot of stuff but it didn't feel entirely congruent with the people. Faith was an interesting, ballsy character and Jim was obviously a `good egg' but I couldn't quite see the link between the two of them except for being two people together trying to save the world.
This wasn't a bad book by any means, there was action, an interesting world, it was well paced and never too slow, it just didn't quite live up to the expectations that I had having read other Amazon reviews. If you like sexy books then the Black Dagger Brotherhood books by JR Ward are leagues better, if you enjoy werewolf stories then `Moon Called' by Patricia Briggs is tons better, if you just like supernatural stories then the early Anita Blake books are way ahead of this one. It just felt too derivative and too sex-focused for me.
