Disgusting ripoff.......2006-11-21
Do you guys know that this book sells in Europe for about 70 bucks? That's HALF its price in the US and about the right price it should have. Then why does it sell for twice as much in the US? Because of the "cooperation" between publishing companies and colleg professors who force thier college students to spend unbelievable sums to get textbooks. I understand (but don't justify) the greedy publishing companies behavious, but why do college professors allow these crooks to go on with this business?

Excellent if you are new to physics and need a straight forward text. The exercises will get to the point and are easy to follow. The shipments were fast and the condition of the book was good.

Honors problem anyone?.......2006-05-06
This book is straight to the point. I mean this book would give you the most important concepts in Physics. The good thing about this book is that the exercises and problems are REALLY challenging. It would require you an absolute understanding of the concepts and great mathematical skills. If you don't have the solutions manual. From what I know the exercises and problems given in a Physics Olympiad is based from this book. Some of the question. So if you want to sharpen your skills in Physics I suggest this book.

More than thirty years ago, when I was an engineering student, my physics "Bible" was Halliday & Resnick, Physics for Students of Science and Engineering, 1st Edition. This is a book that has aged gracefully. While the basic physics concepts were retained, the examples have been updated in each revision to keep up with the technology advances. Now in its seventh edition since Walker started to collaborate with the previous authors, it is still one of the most enjoyable readings in elementary physics. I recommend it without reservation.

Although the book is certainly helpful, they offer a student solutions manual, a CD-ROM, and a website with answers to selected problems. But, they do not tell you where to find the website with the answers to the selected problems, nor do they give you a price on the other items available to help you use this textbook.

Bob Woolf was/is a great negotiator. The key to this book is the subtitle "My Life as a Negotiator." He does have some good stories, but I read the book based on the quotes from the back cover. I see such names as Larry King, Larry Bird, Ted Turner, and Armand Hammer and think this book must be great.
Then, I find out that he has either represented these people or has worked with them. That does detract a bit of respect by me.
His main idea is to go into a negotiation prepared and to remember the Golden Rule. He lists 101 tips for negotiating, but you don't see them until the end of the book. Some of them kind of sound alike and the example he uses sounds familiar.
I think there is some good ideas here, but by reading his examples (which is you weren't following business, sports, and entertainment in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, these examples may be lost on you), I felt that unless you were going to be a high stakes negotiator, then this book wasn't for you.
As I said in the title, there is some good info, you just have to work for it. Come up with your own examples for the points he makes.

Let me tell you a little about this story. It's about the loves, lives and families of Chris Finch and Vinny Swift, friends since childhood, and their problems, adventures, and misadventures. Chris is a car mechanic with his own business. Vinny isn't too bright but can and loves to drive cars. There is a cast of characters from major to minor. Allow me to quote from the back cover:
Chris and Vinny are best friends. When Chris's wife leaves him, Vinny takes him on an adventure that changes both their lives!
A tale of friendship, love, corruption, money laundering, terrorism, motor racing and the discovery of a famous missing racehorse!
`From beginning to end, Martin Salway has you empathising with all his main characters. He moves the story along crisply, and you soon find yourself willing these basic losers to become winners against all odds. If you want to curl up, in more ways than one, with a good side splitting yarn then Martin Salway's `The Friendly Bob' is more than recommended.'
You might say that this story is somewhat like a British version of the movie Dumb and Dumber with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, although Chris seems to have some sense, yet is continually pulled along in this misadventure. As I am not familiar with contemporary English slang and colloquialisms, I am sorry to have missed some of the humor.
The author is a good writer, and the characters clearly come to life. This is Martin Salways's first novel, and it is a good first effort. Martin has worked in the design and architectural industry and teaches design when he is not writing. He lives with his wife in Surrey and is currently working on his second novel titled "Dead Fish and Othe Misdemeanours."
If you liked the movie, Dumb and Dumber, you will probably enjoy this book.
