Book Description
Ten Landscapes: Michael Balston presents the work of one of the premier garden and landscape designers in the UK and worldwide. Based in London, his most recent achievement was a gold medal honor at the prestigious Chelsea Garden Show in 1999 for the Daily Telegraph Reflective Garden. Balston, unlike many European landscape professionals, is deemed radical in his design directions with an architectural rationale crucial to concept of modern garden design. He easily combines a modern aesthetic with old world tradition, formal structure with chaos, and juxtaposes structure and color to promote good gardening that breaks the traditional rules.

Wonderful and clear introduction to shibori.......2007-03-06
This book has many good basic sections of information on how to make shibori fabrics easily at home. It is clear and concise, with good illustrations. Very importantly, the author discusses different dye types and methods, which is very important in shibori because, let's face it, we're not all going to go out into our backyards and indigo dye the old fashioned way. I've been doing shibori for years but I loved this book and found it full of good ideas.
Shibori:A Beginner's Guide.......2007-01-10
Very useful for new Shirori dyers. Simple to read and understand. Could have used more information, but a good place to start.
Beautiful, clear, concise, and very informative.......2006-12-14
For those of us interested in the hands-on techniques of modern shibori, this is a great book. It's full of stunningly colorful illustrations that give the reader/artist very clear examples of what one can expect from a wide variety of dyeing techniques. I own one of Ms. Caldwell's weavings (she also works in ikat), and can attest to its real-life subtlety and beauty. Much of the book is, of course, given over to the basic craft of shibori. But the joy of it is in working inside Caldwell's bold, adaptable, and idiosyncratic style. Learning about the variety of materials and methods - and about how everyday objects, experiments, and even accidents contribute to art - make this a book worth having.

A lovely collection of formulas and stories.......2005-09-06
Beginners seeking a user-friendly quilter's guide will find the vivid colors and unusual designs of M'Liss Rae Hawley's Get Creative! to be inviting. M'Liss provides only 8 projects to serve as a foundation for gathering skills, but each easy project offers important lessons in color and design and offers enough flexibility for beginners to incorporate their own designs and interests. A lovely collection of formulas and stories.
Inspiring.......2005-08-09
The book is great, I like the format and the clear instructions. Beautiful photos. The price was also great. I like saving money for more fabric.
Get Creative.......2005-06-13
This book is excellent. I would recommend starting at the beginning and reading through each project. It is set up as a workbook and one chapter leads into the next. A color wheel is a must and really helps one select the fabric for each project. Not all sales persons in the fabric store have the knowledge that you will obtain from this book. Thanks M'liss. Great introduction.......2007-07-27
As a cardiologist with an interest in vascular imaging, this was a very good introduction. I appreciated the colloquial style and illustrations. The only critisism would be the absence of any mention of variations caused by vascular pathology
RVT.......2006-06-03
This book is an absolute must have for anyone in the field--not just for beginners. Donald Ridgway just has a way of explaining the vascular system & scanning techniques like no other. I understand the vascular system & I learned how to scan (pretty much on my own) thanks to his book. Very helpful. Great humor. I hope Donald Ridgway writes a guide for abdominal & ob/gyn scanning in the near future.
Introduction to Vascular Scanning: A Guide for the Complete Beginner (Introductions to Vascular Technology).......2005-09-27
This is an excellent book for the beginner. I highly recommend it.
A completely fair and balanced five stars.......2005-08-12
Okay, I'm the author. In all these years no one has ever put a review up here, so I'm going to do it.
This is a guide to scanning the vascular system with ultrasound. It was meant to be a vascular-sonography version of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Volkswagen Repair, or the Pete Seeger banjo book: easy to read and make sense of, and practical. It takes the reader step-by-step through protocols for scanning first carotid arteries, then lower-extremity veins, LE arteries, upper extremities, and the abdomen (though that chapter is necessarily only introductory, since that's an especially complex area). In other words, rather than theory and interpretation, this book is about how to push the probe around and get the images and Doppler--very concrete.
My feedback on this book has always been positive: people tell me that they have been able to learn the techniques with a minimum of grief.
So what the hey, I'm giving myself five stars. Excuse my towering immodesty.
Don
(P.S.: By the way, you ARDMS registry people, this is good for 16 ARDMS-approved units.)

Book Description
By means of astrology, Feng Shui, and traditional symbolism, noted author Jonathan Dee (Practical Astrology the Easy Way; Tarot Mysteries; Isis: Queen of Egyptian Magic) analyzes the various uses and meanings of color, in western culture and beyond. Aided by bright and attractive photographs and evocative illustrations, he explains what red, blue, green, orange, pink, purple, gray, white, and black can represent and how they affect different personalities. His wide knowledge of what colors convey on both conscious and subconscious levels will help the reader make positive choices about décor, dress, and environment.
Customer Reviews:
Not recommended........2007-01-03
I don't recommend this book. I am really interested in color, but knew nothing about it when I bought this. There's really very little information in it, it's more like a coffee table book than anything else. Something you flip though and pick out a tidbit here and there.
If you are interested in learning about color, a much better book is "Color Magic for Beginners" by Richard Webster. That one is great. This one I just feel like I wasted my money on.

Very good book with beautiful quilts.......1998-12-15
This is a well written and informative book full of colorful examples. I was primarily interested in learning Bargello design techniques. That chapter was very good. The tip on using adhesive backed foot pads to make straight seams really works! I also particularly liked the chapter on wearable quilt art.
In addition to the mechanics of quilting the author covers quite extensively the artistic elements of quilting. Throughout the book are insets titled "Color Note" which I found helpful in explaining the effects that different color fabrics have on each other.
great book for both beginner and advanced quilters.......1998-11-03
This is an excellent book. It has lots of color and shows quilting techniques and projects from stool and pillow covers to clothing. The text descriptions are clear and easy to follow. Photos of the work of a many other diverse quilting artists offer great ideas for advanced quilters and inspiration for beginners. I get new ideas every time I read it.

Generously illustrated with helpful color photos and charts, it shows you how to effectively apply color theory to your wardrobe, home, and workplace as well to commercial design. Personality types and their relationship to specific colors are described in detail, and quizzes and practical examples help you to determine your own "personal palette."
Customer Reviews:
Helps you really understand how colors affect you.......1999-08-31
I bought this book mostly for advice on decorating my home. I chose the right book. It has helped me understand colors that will suit me & make my guests feel welcome.
The book provides background on color science & our perceptions of different colors. It then explains the four color palettes corresponding to the seasons and how these groups in our environment affect our lives.
Next you discover the colors & palette best suited to your personality through testing & detailed descriptions. Using this information, I discovered clothing colors that really bring out my personality & help me be more productive.
There is also a section on color in commerce which explains the concepts behind color in advertising. This is a much deeper subject than I had imagined and this book effectively explains the significance of the colors around us.
An exceptional book which you will keep going back to...........1999-07-09
Have you ever wondered why you have a favorite colour, or why an advertsing campaign has effected you so much? Have you ever walked into an office and wanted to work there or buy their products? What about some of your friends homes - why do you just relax and chat away in some while always feeling its time to go in others....
Angela Wright takes us through both the theory and practical application like a breeze. Whether a novice or an expert you won't regret picking this one up.
