WARNING - not for children!!.......2007-10-10

someone gave us a whole bunch of used books over the weekend, and my kids were going to read this, so i picked it up to see what it was talking about... this book is BAD! in a way this book has too much gory details about animal cruelty, your kids will most likely get nightmares and refuse to eat meat afterward...

if a mature adult read it, it would perfectly fine, you can decide on your own future preference about animal cruelty... but for kids to get their hands on this book, it would be a big mistake!!

at least it should have a big warning sign saying PG-13 or something...

Excellent resource........2005-03-16

Good stuff: An excellent guide for vegans and/or animal rights activists of all kinds. It suggests many different kinds of plans. A serious topic presented with a much-needed sense of humor, particularily evident in the puns used in chapter titles. Supplies many contacts for relevant communities, etc. Well referenced. Its format is similar to "101 Things You Can Do To Save The Earth," and its suggestions really are easy and effective.

Bad stuff: You probably won't agree with all opinions and strategies in this book (promotes overly obnoxious evangelical behavior, and says that all zoological gardens are wrong and inhumane) but most activism groups are like that anyway, there'll be parts you agree with and parts that you don't agree with. A bit dated now in terms of mailing addresses and such, but timeless in other respects.

Despite its flaws, I give it five stars.

Ingrid Newkirk's "You Can Save the Animals" is a must read if you care about justice and the hidden secrets of animal abusers. "You Can Save the Animals" allows us to take a look behind those closed doors to examine our ethics and morals. Ingrid brings knowledge of animal abuse to those uninformed, she exposes the facts many animal abusers wish to silence. We can ask ourselves, who and why would some wish the book not be read?
