Light, Water, Hydrogen: The Solar Generation of Hydrogen by Water Photoelectrolysis (Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Energy)
Craig Grimes , Oomman Varghese , and Sudhir Ranjan Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Accessories:
ASIN: 0387331980 |
Book Description
This book covers the field of solar production of hydrogen by water photo-splitting (photoelectrolysis) using semiconductor photoanodes. The emphasis of the discussion is on the use of nanotechnology in the field. The theories behind photocatalysis and photoelectrochemical processes responsible for hydrogen production, a state-of-the-art review of the semiconductor materials especially nanostructures of both oxides and non-oxides employed as photoanodes and methods used for improving the efficiency of the processes are given in detail. The book also gives an account of the techniques used for making the nanostructures. It begins with a discussion on hydrogen as an energy carrier, a historical background on hydrogen extraction from water, and various methods employed for hydrogen extraction. Strategies are suggested for developing future nanostructured materials to achieve high efficiency, photochemically stable photoanodes optimized for the visible portion of the solar spectrum.

Aquatic & Surface Photochemistry
George R. Helz , and Donald G. Crosby Manufacturer: CRC-Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0873718712 |
Book Description
Aquatic and Surface Photochemistry provides a broad overview of current research in the emerging field of environmental aquatic and surface photochemistry. Selected reviews and current research articles are blended to provide an in-depth treatment of various aspects of this research area. The first part of the text deals with photochemistry in the environment, covering recent research on the following topics: aquatic photochemistry of organic pollutants and agrochemicals, photochemical cycling of carbon and transition metals (especially iron), photochemical formation of reactive oxygen species in natural waters, photoreaction in cloud and rain droplets, and photoreactions on environmental surfaces (soil, ash, metal, oxide). The second part provides discussions and data on both heterogeneous photocatalytic and homogeneous processes, with topics ranging from applications to mechanistic studies. These chapters illustrate the wide diversity of pollutant classes that are degradable by photochemical techniques and the effects of various reaction conditions on the rates and efficiency of the techniques. Current kinetic studies are presented, which provide new information about the role of adsorption and the nature of the reactive oxidizing species that mediate these photoremediation processes. This book will interest civil, chemical, and environmental engineers, as well as chemists, soil scientists, geochemists, and atmospheric chemists.Customer Reviews:

ASIN: 3540434739 |
Book Description
The topic of photocatalysis is becoming increasingly important due to its essential role in many of today's environmental and energy-source problems. This book gives a comprehensive treatment of photocatalysis in three parts. The first part presents a brief introduction to the principles and fundamental aspects of photocatalysis including photoelectric chemical semiconductors. Part II describes applications to environmental cleaning, such as water purification and cleaning of the atmosphere. Part III discusses applications to photoenergy conversion, for example water decomposition with TiO2, semiconductors and metal complexes. Serving as a timely and convenient reference source including exciting new advances, the book will appeal to academic and industrial researchers as well as graduate and senior undergraduate students in the fields of photochemistry and photocatalysis.

Book Description
Contributors from around the world offer wide-ranging (and sometimes controversial) discussions of the state of research in photocatalysis. Emphasis is on the surface science of catalysis, especially at the gas/solid interface. Eighteen chapters explore topics ranging from the interaction between light and matter, colloidal semiconductors, and the thermodynamics and kinetics of photocatalysis, to photocatalysis in homogeneous and heterogeneous phases, photo-electrocatalysis, and catalysis in energy production and water purification.Customer Reviews:

Photocatalytic Production of Energy-Rich Compounds (Energy from Biomass ; 2)
G. Grassi Manufacturer: Routledge ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 1851662162 |
Book Description
This workshop comprises part of the four-year (1985-1988) non-nuclear energy R & D programme for the development of renewable energy sources which is being implemented by the Commission of the European Communities. The aim of the workshop was to present work by the contracting laboratories in addition to work by numerous other research laboratories in 11 European countries. Extensive discussions were also held on the present state of this basic, directed research in photochemistry, photoelectrochemistry and photobiology, and where the future emphasis may usefully lie.
Thus the book presents the proceedings of all the papers presented and summarizes the recommendations made by the participants as to where future research support may be most effectively placed. It was emphasized in these recommendations that the interdisciplinary collaboration between photochemistry and photobiology had been quite successfully achieved in this European programme. There were both high quality basic research and practical benefits accruing from the work, and these are described in the report on proposed areas for future research.

From a Seaside Town
Norman Levine Manufacturer: Deneau & Greenberg ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0888790430 |
Book Description
Joseph Grand, the hero of From a Seaside Town, is a travel writer struggling to eke out an existence in an English seaside town. He introduces us to the small circle of relatives and companions who figure in his life. As he explores the sequence of events that led him to his present state of limbo, it becomes apparent that his crisis is not merely financial but also a crisis of personal identity. A Canadian Jew, Grand has spent a lifetime seeking to submerge his past. Now as a consequence, he discovers that he belongs nowhere. By turns comic and moving, this beautifully observed and beautifully written novel is a striking example of Norman Levine's artistry.
From a Seaside Town has quietly become a classic. It is a book which simply will not go away.
