Thank you for an easy transaction.

5 out of 5 stars A great text with lots of information in a small package........2007-09-29

This text is perfect for the reader who can read graphs and diagrams. A picture is worth a thousand words and so are graphs and diagrams. This text is chock full of graphs with all the information that you may need for an undergraduate or graduate course. I love this book. Its an excellent reference.

5 out of 5 stars Good book........2007-09-03

Was used for "intermolecular forces" class... Advanced, and I think, it could be useful for people who work with AFM.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book.......2005-07-23

If you want to learn about the title subject, this is a great intro book. And it's probably the most enjoyable theory book you are likely to own, if you purchase it.

5 out of 5 stars Forces you know or not????.......2004-02-13

The above "reviewer" needs to learn the English language! What the hell is that guy trying to tell us? I'm glad the book is useful to the outdoors.

I have not read too far into the book, but it seems to be fairly well written.

5 out of 5 stars Oldie but Goodie!.......2003-02-11

This is simply the best physical chemistry text I have ever used. It is full of unique insights that are thought-provoking, presents things from a physical, rather than mathematical perspective, and explains thermodynamics better than anything else I have read.

5 out of 5 stars Intro to Physical Chem for biochemists.......2001-03-20

This book gives a good overview of physical chemistry for bio students. It is somewhat abridged-covers almost all the topics in a normal P chem course-but places its main emphasis on describing the concepts in the context of cellular and molecular biology. Most chapters have a short section describing how topics relate to biochemistry (DNA renaturation is a 2nd order reaction, thermodynamics of ions in solutions, ions and cell membranes, etc.)

It makes use of some calculus, but eases into it gently to avoid overwhelming the student. I grant you that it is about 20 years old, but the laws of thermodynamics and quantum mechanics haven't changed much in this time.

          Book Description

With the discovery of type-II superconductivity by Abrikosov, the prediction of vortex lattices, and their experimental observation, quantized vortices have become a central object of study in superconductivity, superfluidity, and Bose--Einstein condensation. This book presents the mathematics of superconducting vortices in the framework of the acclaimed two-dimensional Ginzburg-Landau model, with or without magnetic field, and in the limit of a large Ginzburg-Landau parameter, kappa.

This text presents complete and mathematically rigorous versions of both results either already known by physicists or applied mathematicians, or entirely new. It begins by introducing mathematical tools such as the vortex balls construction and Jacobian estimates. Among the applications presented are: the determination of the vortex densities and vortex locations for energy minimizers in a wide range of regimes of applied fields, the precise expansion of the so-called first critical field in a bounded domain, the existence of branches of solutions with given numbers of vortices, and the derivation of a criticality condition for vortex densities of non-minimizing solutions. Thus, this book retraces in an almost entirely self-contained way many results that are scattered in series of articles, while containing a number of previously unpublished results as well.

The book also provides a list of open problems and a guide to the increasingly diverse mathematical literature on Ginzburg--Landau related topics. It will benefit both pure and applied mathematicians, physicists, and graduate students having either an introductory or an advanced knowledge of the subject.

            Book Description

Superconductivity: Physics and Applications brings together major developments that have occurred within the field over the past twenty years. Taking a truly modern approach to the subject the authors provide an interesting and accessible introduction.

Brings a fresh approach to the physics of superconductivity based both on the well established and convergent picture for most low-Tc superconductors, provided by the BCS theory at the microscopic level, and London and Ginzburg-Landau theories at the phenomenological level, as well as on experiences gathered in high-Tc research in recent years.

              Product Description

The 2005 joint Cryogenic Engineering Conference and International Cryogenic Materials Conference (CEC-ICMC) was held at the Keystone Resort and Conference Center in Keystone, Colorado, from August 29th to September 2nd, 2005. We celebrated the 50th anniversary for the CEC and the 30th anniversary for the ICMC. To mark these milestones, CEC-ICMC returned to Colorado, the site of the first joint meeting. Over 700 attendees from 24 countries enjoyed the technical program, industrial exhibit, and special events. There were over 450 papers presented in plenary, oral, and poster sessions. All papers were peer-reviewed. Papers in the ICMC part of the conference present the latest information on materials and their properties used in cryogenic temperatures. Topics include the physical and mechanical properties of metals and alloys at cryogenic temperatures, insulation materials used in magnets for large-scale applications, recent developments in the conventional low-temperature superconductors, YBCO coated conductors, Bi-based superconductors, and MgB2 conductors. Conductor stability and AC losses as well as superconductor applications were also covered at this conference.

                      Book Description

The ultimate goal in high-temperature superconductivity is to produce superconducting materials in a form that can be fabricated into end products. To achieve this goal requires expertise across a wide spectrum of subjects from physics, chemistry, materials, production engineering, and electronic and electrical engineering to entrepreneurial and business skills. The 9th International Symposium on Superconductivity, continuing the series of annual meetings, brought together researchers in the forefront of these fields, providing a forum for the discussion of the very latest findings. The long-awaited goal of superefficient power applications came one step closer to realization with reports on several new technologies for fabricating rare-earth 123 tapes and wires. With basic and applied research progressing rapidly, these volumes will be indispensable to all researchers in the field of high-temperature superconductivity.

                        Book Description

The volume presents in-depth scientific coverage of a vast number of superconductor-based applications. Some of these applications are quite mature, e.g. LTS magnets for MRI, while many others are at various stages of maturity. The first three chapters are devoted to understanding of the principles, fabrication and uses of SQUID magnetometers and gradiometers. The next three cover broader aspects of superconducting electronics - digital LTS circuits and passive component applications using HTS materials. The following four chapters go into magnetic applications. Chapter 11 deals with the fabrication of HTS tapes of BSCCO material. Chapter 12 addresses the use of HTS materials in magnetic bearings in low-loss flywheels. Finally, cryogenic systems are dealt with in Chapter 13 and Chapter 14 shows how to design cryogenic measuring systems and how to take valid measurements.
