Customer Reviews:
Excellent book for Biology GRE Preparation.......2007-10-07
Although it's not marketed this way, Schaum's outline is a concise yet complete study guide for the Biology GRE subject test. Topics like the endocrine system, plant evolution and development, and nutrition, which are given short shrift in the Princeton Review and Kaplan study guides, are fully covered in this book. More diagrams are provided (although there are no color figures - ditto for PR and Kaplan), as well as handy review tables. The explanations are at an appropriate level for GRE examinees: there is not too much extraneous information. Occasionally, the authors will throw in a humorous aside or phrasing (see def. of sexual selection, parts of Ch.17, etc.), which makes you pay closer attention, but overall the tone is serious (no BS analogies or condescension here).
At the end of every chapter are worked problems in essay and multiple choice formats. These questions cover GRE material but aren't presented in the same style. If you're using this book for GRE preparation, you should also consider buying a book with one or more practice tests in order to familiarize yourself with the exam format.
This Book's Got It All!.......2007-01-17
I bought this book to prepare the DAT. It helped so much and I couldn't have made it without it. I do recommend it, it's way better than those common books dealing with how to prepare the DAT, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about, they're just not as specific as this one. Totally worth the money, go for it!
Useful book for recalling established knowledge.......2006-11-08
Well organized, full text book with essential topics on biology. Excellent tool for GRE exams and anyone with basic knowledge on biology, who needs a quick reviewing.
GOOD Reference, LOTS to Read.......2006-07-25
My favorite chapters included Kingdom Fungi, Photosynthesis, excretory system and structure and function of chloroplasta. Like a previous reviewer, I used this book to prepare for the biology section of the DAT (Dental Admission Test). This is a good reference, it explains with examples that get the facts to stick to your brain. Yes, it requires studying, but then again what subject doesn't?
Another great book I totally recommend is "The Ultimate Study Guide for Biology: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations". Volumes 1,2 and 3. It is written by Patrick Leonardi. It is an excellent review for the biology portion of the DAT exam..
Too much information... Just make it simple.......2006-02-27
I was looking to get up to speed to teach an intro bio class for community college. After reviewing bio texts, I bought this book thinking that it would be a great summary, review and offer quiz questions for bio. I wanted it to be to the point, revelant, and a pithy supplement. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. This book didn't highlight or sum up bio. It went into in-depth discussions that might be of interest to grad students. I looked at Biology the Easy Way and liked it much better.

Customer Reviews:
Planet Orgo..........2003-12-06
I am giving this book 3 stars because I did not receive much help from it. A lot of the information that was covered in this book did not go into enough detail, like an entire subject was explained in two sentences. I needed a little more explanation, but I guess this is why the book is deemed an outline.
I was able to gather some (a very small amount) useful information from it. But, pick the book up anyway, because to master Orgo you need as many resources as possible, especially at 3 in the morning and you are trying to figure out where to place an ethyl group. In addition to this book, grab an elementary type orgo book, like orgo for beginners or orgo for nursing majors. These type of books explain things with great detail using an ABC approach. Then do as many problems as you can! Buy a ring of notecards and write part of the reaction on the front and the rest on the back. Study these cards every night religiously. You should be able to make sense out of the reactions and pass the class with a good grade with a considerable amount of study. (I received an A using the above method)
Practice Makes Perfect.......2001-03-13
Schaum's outlines are perfect for what they propose to do -- give the student as much practice as possible. They are experience tools, not teaching tools. The secret to doing well in genchem/orgchem is to practice, practice practice. The more problems you do, the better you will become. Concepts and theories are only half the game in chemistry.
So you want to do better at Organic?.......2001-03-12
What you should remember about the Schaum's series is that all of them, though they may call themselves "outlines," are in fact rather cheap textbooks. They include many more solved problems than your standard textbook, but they are also not as slick or nice to look at.
The organic chemistry outline can be helpful to you, perhaps. The main draw is that each chapter includes a summary of reactions that might be worth it... if, that is, you already know which reactions are more useful than others. The amount of information is great, and this may make it difficult for you to sort out which ones are worth your attention.
The Schaum's outlines are, in my opinion, great for those motivated students who would like to gain some knowledge of the subject. They can also help when you are stuck with a problem, as chances are you will find a solved problem in the book that is at least similar. Whether that is worth the cost is another question.
it is not helpful.......2000-05-27
Very few of the Schaum's outline series are helpful. This one is no exception. It does nothing to clarify the confusing concepts. All it does is provide more problems. Anyone taking organic chemistry knows that it is hard enough to have time to do all the problems in the assigned textbook let alone do more from this book. Furthermore, the answers to the questions are poorly explained. Save your time and money and check out your school library for other helpful books instead.

Customer Reviews:
Great study aid.......2006-01-23
After reviewing my notes and the assigned chapters in my organic chemistry courses, these outlines were very useful in bringing everything together.
Being able to review information in a new perspective really helps to elucidate on topics that may have been vaguely or ambiguously covered in a traditional text or lecture.
You won't be able to learn organic chemistry using these outlines alone. The book is, however, an excellent study aid that I highly recommend.
I have purchased other supplementary texts for organic chemistry, this one has been the most valuable. It is written in the perspective of someone teaching an organic chemistry course rather than that of chemist writing a reference guide - which cannot be said for a lot of the other material available.
not suitable to non-chem/bio major, some chapters not well written.......2005-09-25
i just finished reading the book. overall speaking this book, as is named, easy outline, give the essential part to the reader. however, i do not satisfy about the match of the figure with text description. say, on the DNA section, there is no remarks on which is base and which is sugar. i have no background at all and so it is very difficult for me to follow. the last chapter is the most important one to me, but worstly written.
chapters after 10 are not well written. some wrong figure. less instruction, less background especially to me, not a chem major, i could not follow. i have to rely on several other O-chem book to get me through.
the book is ok, perhaps to chem/bio major people. but need to be more thoughtful, and taking care with new O-chem reader (say common non-chem/bio student).
BEST ORGO STUDY AID- HANDS DOWN!.......2004-05-27
I just finished organic 1, and I could NOT have made it through without THIS LITTLE GEM! We were assigned the WADE Organic book, which was not bad, the "hints" were useful, but who has time to read through those dense confusing chapters meticulously- it's too much talk when what you really need is the BIG PICTURE of what is going on! This book is a little POWERHOUSE-- it gives you the barebone rules and laws which you can easily read and memorize--over and over again! You can't do reactions without MEMORIZATION-- you need the clear-cut rules first before analyzing anything. Now, it's not perfect, (but what is?), some reactions are not mentioned, but combine this with your NOTES (take down EVERYTHING THE PROF. SAYS of course!) and you'll fill in all the gaps and be able to UNDERSTAND SN1, SN2, E2,E1 and all the fun alkene, alkane, alkyne reactions that will rapidly come your way! With this baby and your class notes, forget about reading those 1000+ pages of bulky verbose confusing textbooks! what a waste of time!
Combine this with your notes and you will "get it"! I was able to make some KILLER clear-cut, one page - reaction charts just from this book! IF YOU NEED ORGO HELP, READ THIS BOOK OVER AND OVER AGAIN, (+your notes) & TRUST ME, YOU WILL GET IT!
waste of money.......2003-10-20
This book does not help you at all, it just confuses you. I'm in organic I now, and I have not used it once. Maybe another author would have been better. It is not a substituion for the text book.
It's easy, so do not expect a lot from it........2003-01-03
"Schaum's easy outline:organic chemistry" is a packbackable book that is affordable for your budget. However, as it is an outline, it only functions as a guideline: briefly contains the very main topics in organic chemistry. My reccomendation is to use this book as a guide only because your organic textbook (whatever it is, mine is Brown and Foote's Organic Chemistry) has more details and good explanations.

Review with no title.......2000-08-12
This review was based on the 2000 version, the newest one, of the College Chemistry. After studying this as a guildline to the subject of Chemistry, I found out that this book had very good and short explanations of all the important concepts. However, this study guild's value had been destoried because the amount of misprints and errors in the example problems. This book seemed to be rushed to meet the 2000 year time. Therefore, the mistakes in it was overlooked. To learn concepts, the book is a very good aid, however to look at the examples, it is very poor and sad to see those simple mistakes.

I really rooted for this couple, did not think I would considering the age gap of 25 year old woman and 45 year old man, thought it would be sleazy but it was a beautiful love story. Good read, sexy, funny and sensual.
Would love to read a sequel about some of the other characters.
Tmoegoody .......2007-10-05
A little discouraging in the beginning because I really did not want to read about another spring break fling, but the only reason I kept reading is because my girl Trista be putting it down and once again it was a great read.
she did it again............2007-09-23
She did it again. Another EXCELLENT book. I loved this book from beginning to end. Only upset about her books is when it ends. You always want more. What i love the most is that each story is different and each story gets better and better. I cannot wait to see what Trista Russell has next. God has bless you with a talent......
"If loving you is wrong ...who cares".......2007-09-12
i really enjoyed the story of Thadia's and her friends and the Rev. Issac. I was completely wrong about this book, when I first read the back cover of this book I thought I was going to be reading a drama filled book about this young girl messing around with the Rev. I was completely wrong!!! This is truly a Romeo & Juliet story about 2 adults who are looking for love and find it in each other, but at the cost of possibly a friendship and a close father & daughter relationship. I have enjoyed all the books that have been written by this author. I am now reading going broke, and really enjoyed Fly on the Wall!!
Thanks Mrs. Russell.......2007-08-20
This book has really given me hope for a better day. If only everyone could find the happiness that Thalia found the world be a better place.

Book Description
Fruit flies (Diptera: Tephritidae) are among the most destructive agricultural pests in the world, eating their way through acres and acres of citrus and other fruits at an alarming rate and forcing food and agriculture agencies to spend millions of dollars in control and management measures. But until now, the study of fruit flies has been traditionally biased towards applied aspects (e.g., management, monitoring, and mass rearing)-understandable, given the tremendous economic impact of this species. This work is the first that comprehensively addresses the study of the phylogeny and the evolution of fruit fly behavior. An international group of highly renowned scientists review the current state of knowledge and include considerable new findings on various aspects of fruit fly behavior, phylogeny and related subjects. In the past, the topics of phylogeny and evolution of behavior were barely addressed, and when so, often superficially. Fruit Flies (Tephritidae): Phylogeny and Evolution of Behavior is a definitive treatment, covering all behaviors in a broad range of tephritids. This volume is divided into eight sections:

Book Description
Much research effort is currently underway to improve and implement the area-wide control of insect pests, in order to minimize the use of pesticides and protect the environment. This volume is an outcome of two major international meetings, the FAO/IAEA International Conference on Area-Wide Control of Insect Pests, and the Fifth International Symposium on Fruit Flies of Economic Importance, both held in June 1998 in Penang. More than 300 pages were presented, but this volume includes the 91 considered the most valuable by an international review panel. Papers have been edited, revised and updated as necessary. Contributors include respected research workers from all over the world. The volume will be an indispensable reference volume for workers in agricultural, medical and veterinary entomology.

Book Description
Over the past twenty years, biologists have made remarkable progress in understanding each step as a single fertilized egg develops into a mature organism, and the research draws on a tremendous array of experimental techniques. A Comparative Methods Approach to the Study of Oocytes and Embryos takes a unique approach to the field, providing a hands-on guide to three of the most important experimental subjects--frogs, fruitflies, and mice. By collecting reliable techniques in a single volume, the book is both an invaluable resource for new researchers and an ideal platform for comparing these seemingly disparate biological systems. The volume contains work from many leaders in the field and spans research in genetics, molecular and cellular biology, and morphology. It includes methods for oocyte and embryo culture, microinjection, in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, time-lapse microscopy, intracellular ion measurements, and embryonic dissections.
