Book Description
The Second Edition of this highly successful reference presents a thoroughly updated, systematic survey of organic coatings technology and its numerous applications. Written by three industry experts, this self-contained volume painstakingly revises and condenses the material from the previous, two-part edition-making it more useful for scientists and engineers first entering the field, as well as for students in coatings courses.
Incorporating recent developments, Organic Coatings: Science and Technology, Second Edition helps scientists, engineers, and paint for-mulators to better understand the principles underlying the technology and use them effectively in the development, production, and application of various types of coatings.
It correlates the technology to the current state of knowledge in the field, addressing the complexities inherent in the formulation process which are often overlooked in the professional literature.
The authors introduce readers to the subject with seven chapters on key properties of coatings, then proceed to cover raw materials (binders, solvents, pigments), physical concepts, formulations, and applications. Each topic is carefully summarized and accompanied by extensive references to sources of detailed information-particularly useful in self-study.
In addition to clearly defining industry terms, the book includes hundreds of figures as well as troubleshooting advice for organic, surface, polymer, and coatings scientists, engineers, and paint formulators in all branches of the coatings industry. The material is also applicable to the related areas of printing inks, adhesives, and parts of the plastics industry.
From the reviews of the First Edition . . .
"Excellently written in a clear and vivid style . . . a valuable source of information." -Progress in Organic Coatings.
"[This book] does an excellent job of connecting the theory of polymer chemistry to the practical facts of organic coatings . . . an extremely useful reference." -Choice.
Substantially reorganized in this accessible, self-contained volume, Organic Coatings: Science and Technology, Second Edition provides a systematic, up-to-date survey of the principles underlying the production and use of organic coatings and paints. Complete with 250 figures, this immensely useful text/reference includes:
* New developments in the field since the publication of the First Edition
* Concise descriptions of raw materials, physical concepts, formulation, applications, and properties
* Troubleshooting guidance for coatings scientists and technologists
* Precise definitions of coatings industry terminology for newcomers to the field
* Extensive references reflecting current literature
* An appendix listing useful sources.

This book has an emphasis on significance of test methods and interpretation of results. The book covers all aspects of plastics testing, failure analysis, and quality assurance - including chapters on identification analysis, failure analysis, and case studies. The book concludes with a substantial appendix with useful data, charts and tables for ready reference.
Note: CD-ROM/DVD and other supplementary materials are not included as part of eBook file.
Book Description
Revised due to new developments in the polymer area. This book contains a broad, unified introduction to the subject matter that will be of immediate practical value plus a foundation for more advanced study. New features include a discussion of liquid-crystal polymers, the Flory-Huggins theory, group-transfer polymerization, a quantitative treatment of Ziegler-Natta polymerization with three new worked-out examples and much more. Also, end-of-chapter problems have been added along with practical illustrations of the material.
Customer Reviews:
Great Book for Starting Out.......2000-07-26
This is an excellent book for the novice--concepts are introduced at a leisurely pace and considerable time is taken to develop them. The tone is slightly casual, and the book as a whole is entirely unintimidating and accessible. Advanced concepts are absent (hence the "funadmental" in the title) so if you're looking to advance your knowledge to the next level, you'd be better off looking elsewhere. This is, however, one of the only textbooks I've owned that I've been able to read large portions of in a single sitting; I don't want to say it's like reading a novel, but it is as close as you're going to get with a textbook on rheology.

Book Description
This book covers the basic concepts of civil and highway engineering materials, including current environmental concerns and construction trends. The authors outline the appropriate laboratory test procedures for quality control and provide a complete list of ASTM standards. Discusses the engineering performance of concrete, cements, asphalts, soil, aggregate, timber, metals, and plastics. Contains coverage of environmental concerns, emphasizing considerations regarding hazardous materials and waste disposal, contaminated soil, and remedial options. Includes a chapter on Miscellaneous Material which includes glass, concrete block, brick, and mortar, rounds out the coverage of materials most widely used by civil and highway engineers. For highway engineers, test engineers, material science engineers, and materials inspectors.
Book Description
This unified approach to polymer materials science is divided in three major sections:
Basic Principles - covering historical background, basic material properties, molecular structure, and thermal properties of polymers
Influence of Processing on Properties - tying processing and design by discussing rheology of polymer melts, mixing and processing, the development of anisotropy, and solidification processes.
Engineering Design Properties - covering the different properties that need to be considered when designing a polymer component - from mechanical properties to failure mechanisms, electrical properties, acoustic properties, and permeability of polymers. The first edition was praised for the vast number of graphs and data that can be used as a reference. A new table in the appendix containing material property graphs for several polymers further strengthens this attribute. A new chapter introducing polymers from a historical perspective not only makes the topic less dry, but it also provides a chance to shade light on the role polymers played, for better and for worse, while shaping today's industrial world. The most important change made to this edition is the introduction of real-world examples and a variety of problems at the end of each chapter.

Book Description
Long available as a standard reference in Germany, this valuable guide for engineers is now in a new English-language translation. It provides, in one convenient source, a comprehensive overview of the properties and applications of the huge range of plastics that are of current technical and
commercial interest. The book fills a gap in the literature by providing easily accessible information for design engineers, plastics consultants, chemists, physicists, production engineers, students, and teachers--all those who need a reliable source of descriptions and data to assist them in
identifying suitable materials. All polymers of current interest are accounted for, including liquid crystalline polymers, electrically conductive polymers, recently developed polyamides, and fluorpolymers, with up-to-date trade names given for each group. The information is presented concisely in
the form of texts, tables and graphs. Design engineers will appreciate the large number of data presented as isochronous stress/strain curves. This is truly a unique reference that will benefit the wide number of professionals who depend on specific and detailed data concerning properties,
conversion conditions, applications, and health effects
Customer Reviews:
Great reference for a mechanical design engineer.......2007-01-11
Most engineering educations focus on examples and analysis involving metals. Plastics are ever increasing in there use in product designs. Often however, little mechanical data is available beyond the traditional tensile testing regiments.
Plastics are more sensitive to creep and fatigue failure mode than are metals. Along with traditional material properties tables, this book also presents data on creep and fatigue for many common plastics as well.
Other books on plastics are generally presented from the perspective of chemistry. This reference also has a nice focus on mechanical properties useful to the designer. It is the best reference in my library to date on the subject.

review from far.......2002-05-14
this book is one of the suitable cases about composites.and in-hand standrads is not used in our counry and at the text of book isn't point to whom standards are used detailed.
and i've never study original text of this case but from the translated issue i understand this book was one of the best ones.
althogh it seams that the order of book is special so that sometimes it confused the reader.

Book Description
Man-Eatin' Mutant Monsters from Mars and Other Stories about Jesus is a book of hilarious stories centered around a fictional family and in particular one character, Avery Percible Eussetter. Each story sets the stage for the reader to better understand the core messages of the Christian faith. The style is little like "Lake Wobegon" meets "Chicken Soup for the Soul."
Customer Reviews:
Telling Stories Just Like Jesus Did.......2001-12-02
Jesus was able to tell stories in such an engaging way that even those who did not want to listen finally had to. Andy Lambert carries on that same tradition. His gentle humor and understanding of the human condition makes the reader laugh, and more importantly nod in agreement, as he or she moves from story to story. These stories, no matter how far away they seem in the beginning, really are about Jesus and about us. If more preaching was like Andy's storytelling there would be more laughter and forgiveness in the church just as Jesus intended there to be.
This is a great first effort. I can't wait for the next one.
