Customer Reviews:
Absolutely phenomenal.......2007-07-24
I had a terrible teacher for AP Chemistry, and about a month before the AP exam, I bought this book. I read it through the whole way, did all the practice questions, and got a 5! It was all the book, too; the next highest grade in the class was a 3.
This book will teach you everything you need to know for the exam. My only complaint was that I didn't get it any earlier -- I wish I could have used it to study for in-class tests as well :)
the most thorough AP chemistry book i have seen.......2007-01-24
if you want to get a 5, and have over a month to study (like me), you *need* this book. it's definitely longer than other books, so you'll have more to study from. however, if you're hoping for just a 3 or 4, and don't have too much time, you'll probably be ok with another book.
Good preparation for AP Chemistry.......2007-01-13
It's probably the best resource out there for preparation for the Advanced Placement Chemistry exam. It tells you what to expect, gives a study schedule, gives you practice exams with explanations, and is very up-to-date. It's not a must-have though, because there are plenty of other good resources out there.
A must buy!.......2006-12-27
The AP Chemistry exam is certainly one of the hardest. However, my high school teacher taught like a college professor, which made the exam easy as child's play. The AP class was offered during first semester in my school, and I had to take the exam at the end of the year...like three months later. The Barron's book helped me tremendously in review and practice. I flipped through the book and read all the material I remembered my teacher lecturing about. And then, I skipped the contents that I know won't be on the test. Furthermore, I scored a 5 and I accidentally skipped a portion on the free response. I found out about that like one minute before time was called. But I still walked out of the testing room confident with this book.
DEFINITELY YOUR KEY TO SUCCESS.......2006-07-04
This book is GREAT for its content; it covers all the topics in specific detail, though some are clearly superfluous. It really helped me on the experimental parts (i.e. common colors or smells of chemicals, etc). I did not take any of the practice tests in this book because I knew and heard that they were insanely hard and depressing. Instead, I took the practice tests out of the Princeton Review AP Chemistry and scored a 5 on both of them. I recently just received my score and I got a 5! This book is a must for those who want a thorough review on AP Chemistry.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent General Chemistry book.......2007-08-28
I am studying for my DAT now and i think this book is much more sufficient than Kaplan. I took my general chemistry 5 years ago; thats why some of the important concept had faded out of my memory.
I am really scared since i dont want to go back to my gen textbook; i am glad that i picked out this book
The book also very organize and really easy to understand.
I recommend for any students who are struggled with General Chem to have this book.

Realities of Pacific NW earthquake hazards.......2003-09-04
This is without doubt the most complete - and the most excellently illustrated publication to date on the USA Pacific NW earthquake hazards. Further, it's not only the most complete but is also done by authors eminent in professional knowledge of the issues. There should be as thorough a book issued for the Seattle region and Portland as well.

Book Description
In the past 10 years, there have been many developments in the field of infrared transmitting fiber optics. This is highlighted by the many different fiber compositions that have been studied around the world for numerous practical applications. This book reviews different fiber systems, describing material properties, techniques used to prepare the fibers and fiber properties with particular emphasis on optical properties. These fibers possess unique optical, mechanical, and physical properties, enabling many technologies. Examples of applications are described within given chapters, allowing an engineer or scientist to choose the most appropriate fiber for a desired application. The introduction gives the reader an overview of transmission theory so that the basic concepts are clearly understood by someone new to the field. The next several chapters describe the different types of infrared transmitting fibers, including glass fibers such as those based on silica, fluoride, and chalcogenide glasses; the crystalline fibers based on single or polycrystalline materials; and hollow waveguides. The commercial chemical sensing applications of some of these new fibers are described. The final chapter summarizes the properties of the fibers and highlights future prospects.
Customer Reviews:
Review on Infrared Fiber Optics.......2000-05-24
There are wide variety of works/topics covered which are close related and also interpreted very closely. No matter what the reader's background, much of the book is related to spectroscopy and widely acceptable for thr optical research related to network or with applied oreintation. This book contains lot of information of great value, The authors tried to collect and describe thier work and in comparison to the research work done simultaeneously and also good forecast to the future related research. This is especially useful for the young scientists who are upcoming in this field. The book gives a very good useful overview of all the topics discussed. especially my concern is int he topic of Hollow waveguides, for which Ifound this is very well described, as Iam looking at the journals from 1964, I found everything iw discussed and of most useful from the basics to advanced research.
This is highly recommended for any one. Finally I thank the authors/editors and also AMAZON for bringing out this good edition to be known to the world of young scientists.

Book Description
Windy John's me 'n tut is full of wonderful individual stories based on my father's childhood antics. The stories, in book form, are the result of my promise to him that I would write his stories to keep them alive. The stories are hillarious making the reader reflect upon their own personal experiences with life and the joys of being a child.
Customer Reviews:
What A Romp!.......2004-04-26
Windy John's, Me 'n Tut is a step back in time to a simpler life. Joyce Rapier expertly sets the scene with hillbilly dialogue and unforgettable characters. From page one, you find yourself drawn into the life of a holler family, and the hilarious antics of two precocious boys.
This novel carries on the time honored tradition of rural storytelling and the author pays a special tribute to her father by documenting his tales of long ago. This book will transport you into another world where people worked hard, loved hard, and laughed hard. Windy John's Me `n Tut is a rip roaring romp!
Fun in a book for ALL............2003-02-11
I began reading "Windy John's me 'n tut" and was immediately engaged in the earthy tales and the hillbillylike dialect that made me remember fondly of the time I read "Tobacco Road" by Erskine Caldwell...EXCELLENT writing job, Joyce Rapier. An admirable tribute to your dad's storytelling and an outstanding book; one that can be read by all and read more than once or twice or...more.
Refreshing Stories from the Past.......2003-02-01
In these days of voice mail, email, etc., when everyone has two or three bathrooms (indoors), and your home owners covenants won't let you have a cat that isn't on a leash, these stories are refreshing. Some say reading is to escape, if this is true, this book fits the bill. You're lost in a world of yesterday. Even though I never lived in the country, I visited relatives who did, and can relate to these wonderful, poignant stories. I'm glad the author was able to record this period so vividly.
Here's to savoring the simpler times in life.......2003-02-01
I love books that pull you into the past. I fell in love with the boys and all their antics. The characters come alive and before you know it, you're sitting beside them having tea. A great story for all age groups.
A labor of loveý a priceless treasure.......2003-01-31
In the waning years in the life of the author's father, he would tell her stories of his recollections from his childhood and younger days. She would listen avidly and write them down, promising herself that these wonderful stories would live on. This book is the result of that endeavor. It is a very well written collection of anecdotal remembrances told with rich country dialog, wit, and wisdom. The hilarious antics will make you laugh and soon you find yourself yearning for more. This is a terrific book for anyone, especially those who remember, and long for, simpler times. Mrs. Rapier has captured the spirit of the man, and the times. You can almost feel as though you were sitting there talking to Windy in person. Two thumbs up!
