5 out of 5 stars it's also a study guide.......2006-09-14

The reviewer is right, but the book does come with a study guide for the entire book, not just the solutions.

5 out of 5 stars Suggestion.......2005-04-16

This solutions manual is my bestest friend! Don't know what I'll do without it. Anyways, to the meat of it all, the solutions manual is actually on the website the book has (pdf format), so you don't really have to buy it, but if you really want a hardcopy then go ahead. I'd rather save $40 bucks. Hope this saves you guys some $$ (=

            Book Description

The book contains private views of experts from various countries on the role of geological mapping in sustainable development. New technologies and concepts are presented, which are either awaiting for recognition by Geological Surveys, or are gradually applied in some survey. The target of the book is well worded in the "Summary and recommendations" elaborated by the Ad Hoc Committee at the Advanced Research Workshop on Innovative Geological Cartography, held under NATO sponsorship in Poland in November 2003. After the "Summaries" were issued by the end of 2003, the authors who presented their views at the Workshop, gave a revised version of their papers with more new ideas and material. Generally, the book is addressed to cartographers in Geological Surveys, geologists and geographers co-operating with landuse planners, ecologists and decision makers, who may learn about the state-of-the-art and the enormous information potential of the modern information technologies in Geosciences. The book, however, gives no methodological recipes but, as it was the authors' intention, may and shall be used as a guide-book in modernizing Information Technologies at the local, regional and national levels in Geosciences.

                Book Description

Einstein's relativity theory ignores the well known facts about the quantities and units, which are presented in a general form in the book. It uses the values of speeds inconsistently relative to units, which is shown in the book. It accepts severely restrictive, physically unacceptable in general, assumptions that Einstein lifted up to the untouchable postulates. Consequently, his relativity theory and its developments represent a singular case valid only when the assumptions hold, rather than a general relativity theory. They are physically valid only if the Lorentz transformations are physically applicable, which does not happen even for simple systems used in Einstein's relativity theory as illustrative ones. Other cases of the physical invalidity of the Lorentz transformations, consequently of Einstein's relativity theory and of its developments, are shown. Another consequences are various paradoxes and errors explained and proved in the book.

The book serves as a guide how to overcome all the drawbacks of Einstein's relativity theory. It is a basis for rejecting the misleading interpretation of time and of its relativity. It opens the possibility for the clarification of the physical sense of time relativity, as well as for novel mathematical relativity theories that create new directions in physics. These achievements are in the accompanying book Time & Time Fields: Modeling, Relativity, and Systems Control. These two books were originally written as one entity. The book size limit forced their formal separation in two books, but they still form essentially an entity.

                    Book Description

The author explains for us, in this exhilarating, epistemological discourse, how the theory of relativity and the standard model for the physics of subatomic particles is leading modern physics down an ominous dead-end street where irrationality and the inadequate, indiscriminate use of mathematics and of field experimentation, without the support of substantial theoretical bases, is creating a new physics where common sense and reality seem to have no place whatsoever and where everything, absolutely everything, has an explanation, no matter how absurd it may appear, if one may develop mathematical models ad hoc which, with time, take on the connotation of irremovable axioms.

This book is quite controversial and very surely will raise lively discussions and deep intellectual restlessness in lay circles, as well as at the bosom of the international scientific community, because the author's discoveries give a lost symmetry back to modern physics, removing it from the marshy, moving lands across which it has been traveling throughout the past 90 years.

                      Book Description

This collection of 15 pieces by Mark Twain displays, as Cynthia Ozick writes in her introduction, "the entire arsenal of his art: the occasionally reckless polemic, the derisive irony, the intelligent laughter, the verbal stilettos, the blunt country humor, the fervent despair, the hidden jeer, the relishing of palaver and tall tale, the impatient worldliness, and the brilliant forays of language." "The Man That Corrupted Hadleyburg," a dark and riveting dissection of a town's hypocrisy, vanity, and misplaced pride, is one of Twain's most ingenious and memorable stories. Whether anatomizing the dynamics of anti-Semitism in "Concerning the Jews" or "Stirring Times in Austria," or looking back on his personal literary odyssey in "My Debut as a Literary Person," Twain is lively and engaging. This volume also contains "My First Lie, and How I Got Out of It," a remarkable essay that begins lightly, but soon turns into a razor sharp attack on humanity's indifference to injustice.

                      3 out of 5 stars A bit confusing but. . ........2000-03-31

Well, not one of Mark Twain's finest, but The Man That Corrupted Hadleyburg is a good book. It deals with the temptation and corruption that occurs in everyones life. A couple receives anonymous money and is forced by reputation to do the right thing. Whether they and the town do is another situation. Eventually the whole community becomes involved and the righteous owner of the money is to be determined. Although it is a little confusing, it makes the reader think just how much money is the greed of all evil.

                      Book Description

Pudd'nhead Wilson (1894), written in a more sombre vein than his other Mississippi writings, was Mark Twain's last serious work of fiction. It reveals the sinister forces that, towards the end of his life, Twain thought to be threatening the American dream. The central plot revolves around
the tragedy of "Roxy," a mulatto slave whose attempt to save her son from his fate succeeds only in destroying him. An astringent work which raises the serious issue of racial difference, Pudd'nhead Wilson is considered by the critic F.R. Leavis to be "a classic of the use of popular modes--the
sensational and the melodramatic." The volume also includes two other late works by Twain, Those Extraordinary Twins and The Man that Corrupted Hadleyburg.

As entertaining as any of Mark Twain's works. Fun for all ages. Great stroy and lessons in life as well as Twain's great gift for humor, subtle and obvious. Totally entertaining with enough drama to keep your interest. Great for entertainment, education or teaching.

                          Book Description

This delightful collection of lesser-known gems by Mark Twain begins with the story of a town called Hadleyburg, which prides itself on the honesty of its citizens. One day a citizen of Hadleyburg offends a stranger passing through, who vows to take his revenge by revealing just how corruptible the sanctimonious town really is. Twain is at his best here, poking fun at common hypocrisy as the self-satisfied pillars of the community are done in by their own greed.

Other stories in the collection include: "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County," "The Million Pound Bank Note," "Edward Mills and George Benton: A Tale," "The Stolen White Elephant," "Cannibalism in the Cars," "The Man Who Put Up at Gadsby's," "The Story of the Good Little Boy," "The Story of the Bad Little Boy," "Baker's Blue Jay Yarn: What Stumped the Blue Jays," and "Double Barreled Detective Story."
