Book Description
How many bones are there in the human body? Which bone is the longest? Or the smallest? Without bones, you would be a blob, like a jellyfish or a worm. Our bones support us and protect our insides. They work together with our muscles to allow us to do all the things we do! So when you think of your bones, say "Thank you!"
This simple Step 1 introduction teaches young readers these facts and many more about the skeleton inside each of us!
Customer Reviews:
Good book with exception on one page!!!.......2007-07-02
I decide to buy this book because I was looking for science books and books that could help my daughter learn about the human body. The book is absolutely great with the exception of one of the pages of the book. Sadly, there is one page in which the books say something about Halloween. In my case I don't celebrate Halloween and I always avoid anything that has to do with it. Unfortunately there is not way to know about the content of the book until you get it. I bought the book because I had not idea that there was something about Halloween in it and I want to alert other people so they don't make the same mistake I did.
Nice intro to human anatomy.......2000-04-06
This book is a great introduction to simple human anatomy that will be easily understood and enjoyed by preschool and primary school age children. Includes helpful, cartoon-like illustrations. It is full of information and also fun to read.

Book Description
In 1991, two tourists hiking in the Alps saw something very odd sticking out of the snow. At first it looked like a doll's head. But it wasn't. It was a man, frozen in the ice for 5,000 years.
This is the story of the Ice Mummy, written for the first time in an easy-to-read format. It's also the only book to include information about the Mummy's latest incarnation--as a museum exhibit in Bolzano, Italy. On public view for the first time ever, he now enjoys a few twentieth century comforts, including a specially designed refrigeration chamber that re-creates the icy conditions of the glacier where he was found!
Customer Reviews:
The Mummy Returns (not the movie).......2005-05-07
I Think the 5,000 year old Mummy is very good discovery. I never knew that there could be a Mummy in the alps or any other extremely cold moutain area. (I was just plain dumb about that).
I Think that this book about the Ice Mummy is very good to learn
about. (Besides King Tutankahamun). The Mummy, i realized can be almost anywhere, but not the USA. You can learn from this
discovery, many of you.
The Ice Mummy review.......2004-04-02
The Ice Mummy
(...) I think that it is a very good book for 8 to 10 years old. I think that they would understand it a lot better than younger kids because it is not as simple as some book are. I really like this book a lot it was better than i though it would be. They have found out a little bit more information about the ice mummy.(...) The movie is more up to date because they have found out more information since the book has been produced.
Ice Mummy the ice mummy.......2004-04-02
the ice mummy
my favorite chapter in ice mummy is chapter 6, time traveler. i savor that chapter because it tells about how he died and where he died .
i believe the age group is 9 and up. one reason i think that is because it shows stuff little kids should not be able to see or read about.
i enjoyed the book because it was interesting to read about. it also had the tools that the ice mummy had with him when he died. the people in the book tried to figure out how the ice mummy was killed in the book.
the ice mummy is not up to date because the book was made in 1998. the ice mummy video was made in 2001. the book says that the ice mummy died from freezing to death. in the movie it says that he was shot in the back by a man who must have been mad at him.
Ice Mummy.......2004-03-31
Ice Mummy by : Mark Dubowski
The Ice Mummy is an excellent book . It is appropriate for everyone at all ages 3 and up because it is good that kids can learn about mummy. I like chapter 2 because it has really good and it has great pictures . It is a superior book i f you like any kind of mummy. I like the book use it is good and I like any kind of mummy. Yes the movie of the Ice mummy is up to date, but the book Ice Mummy is not up to date So the movie is but the book is not.
Great introduction, but missing crucial info.......2004-01-19
My son brought this book home from school, and we both enjoyed reading it. It was a good reading level for him (he's a precocious 6 1/2). It's an endlessly fascinating topic, one of the most significant finds ever in the field of archeology, it would seem.
But there is a large and surprising omission from the story of the Iceman, which is that he died not from hypothermia as "Ice Mummy" claims, but from being shot by an arrow. The flint arrowhead is embedded in his shoulder, but its existence was overlooked (incredibly) for two whole years after his discovery. "Ice Mummy", however, was published seven years after the discovery, so one wonders why this information is not included.
Except for this big hole, it's a great book, and even *with* the hole, I still recommend it, especially if you can fill in the remaining part of the story yourself (it's easy to find more information on the net).

Book Description
Millions of years ago the animals that walked the earth were very different than the ones we know today. Many went extinct. The dinosaurs are extinct. So is the dodo bird and the passenger pigeon. But there are some extinct animals most people have never heard of. Like killer kangaroos, and bear-sized beavers, and giant birds!
Customer Reviews:
I didn't know that!!.......2001-08-07
This book is NOT just for kids!! I read it to my baby cousin and reread it after she fell asleep! It was a fascinating read, very well written and well supported by imaginative drawings. My favorite section, about the bugs, is simply amazing and my baby cousin loved it, too! Great stuff.

Book Description
This volume contains 18 papers from 8 countries dealing with different aspects of triggered and induced seismicity. In situ observations of the phenomenon include examples of seismicity due to reservoirs, hard-rock mines, coal mines, mine collapses, brine production caverns, fluid injections, and geothermal hot-dry-rock projects. High-frequency acoustic emission studies from laboratory experiments and hard-rock mines have also been reported. Besides providing case studies of previously unavailable observations of seismicity, the present volume contains investigations of the causes and source mechanism of seismic events, determination of source parameters, seismic hazard as related to the design of support systems for underground openings and procedures for closure of brine production caverns, and the use of seismic and non-destructive techniques in assessing rock damage, measuring dynamic elastic moduli and detecting discontinuities. This collection of papers provides an excellent indication of the state of the art, recent developments and outstanding challenges facing scientists and engineers in understanding the causes and alleviating the effects of induced seismicity.

Book Description
Recently, major progress has been made in the development of equations to describe the motion of fluid-particle mixtures and their application to a limited range of problems. However, results are only as good as their underlying equations, so it is essential to have a clear understanding of the fundamental physics. In The Dynamics of Fluidized Particles, Jackson formulates these equations carefully and fully describes the important existing applications that test their ability to predict salient phenomena.

Book Description
Fluidization Dynamics has been written for students and engineers who find themselves involved with problems concerning the fluidized state. It presents an analysis that focuses directly on the problem of predicting the fluid dynamic behaviour of a proposed fluidized system for which empirical data is limited or unavailable.
The second objective is to provide a treatment of fluidization dynamics that is readily accessible to the non-specialist. The linear approach adopted in this book, starting with the formulation of predictive expressions for the basic forces that act on a fluidized particle, offers a clear way into the theory. The incorporation of the force terms into the conservation equations for mass and momentum and subsequent applications are presented in a manner that requires only the haziest recollection of elementary fluid-dynamics theory.
The analyses presented in this book represent a body of research that has appeared in numerous publications over the last 20 years. L.G. Gibilaro has taken the opportunity to reorder much of the material in the light of subsequent knowledge, to correct minor errors and inconsistencies and to add detail and clarification where necessary. This material helps to form the basis for university course modules in engineering and applied science at undergraduate and graduate level, as well as focused, post-experienced courses for the process, and allied industries.
· Bridges the gulf between observed behaviour and fluid-dynamic theory
· Clear account of basic theory of fluidization
· Accessible treatment of fluidization analysis

Description:
This work concerns with the evaluation of a scaled 'magnetically assisted circulating fluidized bed', with a circular cross-section. Flow behavior and solids distributions were determined in a riser (0.032m i.d.x1.5m height) of magnetite particles (d"p=425@mm, @F=0.86, @r"s=4500kgm^-^3), in the experimental range (U"g=4.2-5.3ms^-^1; G"s=30.1-40.3kgm^-^2s^-^1), which covered the fast fluidization flow regime. A shutter arrangement was used to measure the solids circulation rate. The riser is equipped with a pressure tapping at an interval of 0.3m to detect the axial pressure profile, which helps in calculating the apparent solids holdup in that section. The plots conditions were distinguished by variations of parameters (net solids circulation rate, flow velocity, magnetic field intensity) at various heights along the riser for presence and absence of magnetic field. It is predictable, that the magnetic field has a significant influence on fluidization phenomenon along the whole riser, especially for the dilute section. It appears that, for applied magnetic field, the solids holdup begins to increase, this most likely indicates the starts of a 'transition' towards much 'denser' suspension.

Customer Reviews:
a sometimes-funny painfully-hip action-thriller/political farce.......2006-01-01
The unjustifiably neurotic title character in this art scene novel is written in a way that makes him almost likable, and the atmosphere of his subculture is amusingly, if not poignantly, accurate. If you've ever had a three hour conversation about the evolution of irony in a dive bar, you might get a bang out of all the little moments of "ain't that the way it is!" and "hmm, I think I went out with that guy in college," but the actual plot gets in the way of enjoying this too much. Plus, tacking a thinly veiled epilogue onto a novel that tries so hard to be self-conscious is way too schmaltzy. That said, I have to admit that this is the only novel I've ever read about art students and other hip young people that hasn't made me want to rip up my art degree, chew and swallow it, regurgitate it onto a canvas, sell it for an ungodly sum, and move to a dude ranch.
