Book Description
Several state-of-the-art applications of molten salts are presented, such as metal-molten salt systems, room temperature glass formation, and room temperature melts. Several recent examples of applications highlight the importance of molten salts in various industries (batteries, pyrochemical reprocessing of nuclear fuel, synthesis and catalysis). The basic concepts of the structure, dynamics, electrochemistry, interfacial and thermodynamic properties are detailed and relevant experimental methods described. Such fundamental concepts are essential for an in-depth understanding of the physicochemical properties of molten salts in general, including metal-molten salts, glass forming and low temperature melts. Experimental methods for investigating structural, dynamical, electrochemical thermodynamical and interfacial properties are detailed, as also are techniques for data collection and analysis.
Scientists, engineers and technologists will find the volume a valuable reference source covering a wide spectrum of fundamental concepts and modern technologies.

Book Description
Over the last decade one of the most active areas of research in nuclear physics has been the study of systems of nucleons in various dynamical situations. Heavy-ion collisions at beam energies in the range 30-150 MeV per nucleon, where subnucleaonic degrees of freedom can be considered as frozen, allow such systems to be studied in detail. Nuclear Dynamics in the Nucleonic Regime summarizes our current understanding of this branch of physics. The authors follow the course of typical heavy-ion collisions through time and discuss each stage of the collisions. By presenting experimental and theoretical understanding, a clear picture of the physics can be presented.

Perfect Capture.......2005-04-23
The narrator perfectly captures the western personality and expression of these pieces. Surely the greatest possible narration of the Twain's Humor.
Becker is great, sound quality is ok, too bad its not on CD........1998-01-17
It is difficult to appreciate a short story that is filled with sentences of one long word after another. However, Becker's reading of Twain makes it flow together so well that you just have to laugh out loud. Jounalism in Tennesse and Political Economy come to mind as I imagine that Lightning Rod Salesman just carrying on and the young editor trying to be impressive with his suave article which is later ripped to shreds by the author. How I Edited the Agricultural Paper was grand and I listened to it several times finding it funnier each time.
Customer Reviews:
I bought two books of Mr. Twains quips; I did not need to........2006-11-11
This was the second book I picked up and though it is essentially the same as "The Wit And Wisdom of Mark Twain: A Book Of Quotations" (Dover), it is just as good. Everyone (American) should read Mark Twain, pick a book of quotes and get the flavor of his unuique humor.
The great American humorist .......2005-12-04
It is always a pleasure to read Mark Twain. He is the rare writer who simply sees the world, ( and hears it) in a humorous way. While his pessimism at human nature can at times seem exaggerated his perception of human fault and foible is so precise that it rarely fails to hit the funny bone.
The man who wrote to the paper that published his obituary ' that the reports of his death are greatly exaggerated, was maybe the sharpest of all the great American writers.
It is possible to prefer a cheaper, more full , less picture- rich edition than this little volume, but this little volume still has enough Twainisms for no small number of chuckles and laughs.
A Near Sub-Microscopic Volume.......2001-11-27
The book is hardcover and has a very nicely done dustcover. But it is far smaller and thinner than a paperback novelette. If I had known that this book was so small and had so few quotations and so little substance, I'd never have bought it. For about ($) dollars less you can get the paperback Dover Thrift Edition of Mark Twain quotations, "The Wit and Wisdom of Mark Twain: A Book of Quotations." It won't be as pretty, but it will deliver more substance.
Book Description
Mark Twain's Book for Bad Boys and Girls is the first-ever compilation of Twain's own wise and witty essays, sketches, and stories on the joys and rewards of misbehavior.
Customer Reviews:
Not what I had hoped to read..........2006-08-01
I have always appreciated the work of Mark Twain. He manages to combine a witty, sardonic pen with a quality narrative approach that has always kept me engaged in his wonderful stories. So, I had hoped that this little collection of snippets from his works would be equally charming.
Unfortunately, I came to realize about halfway through this book that Twain's biting sarcasm is only pallatable in sporadic doses. In this book, there is no narrative to follow and no characters to develop. Instead, his many biting comments about morality, the church, and virtue are slammed up against each other, to a rather jarring effect. He repeatedly lambasts anyone and everyone who would encourage young people to make good choices, with no breather in between.
In this form, I found Twain to be mean-spirited, arrogant, and offensive. Though there are a few touching moments that prevent me from rating it with 1 star, I would not recommend this book to anyone, especially not to children. The nasty side of Twain's wit is exposed for all of its ugliness, and I did not enjoy the view.
Better, Much Better Than William Bennett.......2003-12-02
This is a great little book. A gift to kids that will touch their minds and set off mini-explosions of laughter and possibility. William Bennett, the idiot of our times, could never have thought of this stuff and doesn't have the intellect or imagination to be able to write this well. Let's buy this book and dismiss William Bennett. Mark Twain is an American original.
Charming, fun, instructive.......2003-11-11
Even a book this small reveals how wonderful was the pen of Mark Twain. It is brimming with good-natured mischief and well-told yarns. It is the perfect antidote to the smarmy nonsense plopped onto the bookshelves by The Gambling Gourmand, William Bennett. A perfect gift for an intelligent youngster, and a delight for adults.

Honesty: the best of all the lost arts.......2007-03-25
And so it goes, page after page. You'll find your favorites.
"Habit is habit, and not to be flung out of the window by any man, but coaxed sownstairs a step at a time." Pudd'nhead Wilson 1894, ch 6.
There's how Mr. Ayres presents them from a variety of sources, Twain's books as well as speeches, his notebook and essays and a few from letters and some listed as attributed to him. I have a nice collection of books on my favorite subjects but this simple one, nothing fancy, is one I go back to time and again. I find myself quoting him in various contexts and glad that I know the quotes. the art of Mr. Ayres is to cull out the various quotes from so many sources. Twain said them, Ayres found them and put them together very sensibly by catagories such as Heroism, Music andd Right and Wrong. It's an A to Z compendium. You'll find plenty of lively, homespun quotes that often feel like the very heart of the American character. Can't go wrong with this book.
Cheer Up with Biting Humor of Mark Twain.......2004-11-06
Enjoy few quotes from this humorous book, then go and buy a copy:
ADVERTISING
During his days as a journalist, the young Mark Twain once edited a small newspaper in Missouri. A subscriber wrote in, saying that he had found a spider in his paper and asked whether this was a sign of good or bad uck. Twain answered:
"Dear Subscriber: Finding a spider in your paper was neither good luck nor bad luck for you. The spider was merely looking over our paper to see which merchant is not advertising so that he can go to that store, spin his web across the door and lead a life of undisturbed peace ever afterward."
ADVICE
It is beter to give than receive - especially advice. Mark Twain was always willing to donate free advice to the needy and the unsuspecting. "It's notble to be good", he said, "and it's nobler to teach others to be good, and less trouble."
Whenever you find that you are on the side of majority, it is time to reform (- or pause and reflect).
BELIEFS
If the man doesn't believe as we do, we say he is a crank, and that settles it. I mean, it does nowadays, because now we can't burn him.
SURGERY
Mark Twain offered this advice on the proper state of mind for undergoing surgery: "Console yourself with the reflection that you are giving the doctor pleasure, and that he is getting paid for it."
INSULTS
When Mark Twain disapproved of someone, he was not likely o keep it a secret. A remark he made on hearing of the death of an annoying person is typical:
"He has done a thing for me which I wouldn't even have done for myself. If he will only stay dead now I will call the account square and drop the grudge I bear him."
The Wit and Wisom of Mark Twain.......2001-09-09
A hilarious book of qoutes, sayings, and one-liners only Mark Twain could have the genious to create.
A qoute from Adam, the first of many: Adam was but human - this explains it all. He did not want the apple for the apple's sake, he wanted it only because it was forbidden. The mistake was in not forbidding the serpent; then he would have eaten the serpent.
From Adam, the wit and humor only becomes more hysterical, more riveting, more evident; and we soon discover the true intelligence of Mark Twain. He was not an ordinary man; for no mere ordinary man could have thought, and often dared, to utter such words as Mark Twain, in the era in which he lived.
The Wit and Wisdom of Mark Twain contains some of his most outrageous qoutes, either written within his books, or his journals, and spanning more than four decades. A great read, which you don't have to start at the beginning, and work your way to the end. And a perfect way to escape the drollery of prime time television.
Amusing and Timeless Reading.......2000-05-22
Mark Twain captures human nature at it's best and worst in this book. The collection of quotes by Twain "alphabetically" comment honestly on topics ranging from adultery to government to money to youth. Such insight into humanity rarely comes along in a lifetime (or several lifetimes!) His words in truly reflect society during his lifespan and, as I have reread this book several times, the passages reflect society today. This book is an "easy read" as it contains memorable quotes as well as portions of a variety of speeches, papers and books/stories Mr. Twian wrote. You can read the entire book at one sitting or glance through it if you have a few minutes to spare and still feel the impact of his writings , thus finding yourself highly amused by his insight. You can pick up the book again at a later time and enjoy it as much as before. The "authors"/collectors/writers of this book are to be applauded.

Book Description
Beginning with the piece that made Mark Twain famous--"The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County"--and ending with his fanciful "How I Edited an Agricultural Paper," this treasure trove of an anthology, an abridgment of the 1888 original, collects twenty of Twain's own pieces, in addition to tall tales, fables, and satires by forty-three of Twain's contemporaries, including Washington Irving, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Ambrose Bierce, William Dean Howells, Joel Chandler Harris, Artemus Ward, and Bret Harte.
Customer Reviews:
Not enough Twain.......2007-05-12
I knew this was a compilation of stories by a number of authors but there were just a few written by Mark Twain and, given the title, I was expecting more Twain stories.
