Book Description
The book will concentrate on how growth factor receptors are down-regulated by endocytosis and intracellular trafficking. The authors will further discuss what is currently understood about the effect of cellular microenvironments on signal transduction.
Book Description
Change was sweeping through the land-and through their lives as well!
World War II had changed the American landscape and left its mark on Jerry and Marjie Macmillan. Jerry had nearly lost his life during the sinking of his aircraft carrier, and his family had nearly lost their farm when his father's health had failed. Now, as the Macmillans settle into their responsibilities as owners of the family farm, they hope the mountain of difficulties has been left far behind them.
But the challenges they must face together on the home front prove to have a power all their own. The calamity of a thunderstorm, a sudden illness, and the announcement of a loved one missing in action during the invasion of Sicily bring tests of faith and fortitude.
However, the greatest challenge comes unexpectedly with the brief visit of an American missionary who escaped the Japanese takeover of the island of Borneo. His amazing story causes the Macmillans and their closest friends to reexamine what they really want in life.
They had answered the call of their country, but how will they respond to a call that transcends flesh and blood?

Book Description
This illustrated environmental history of rural life in Northern England and the Scottish Borders in the late medieval and early modern periods explores the relationship between society and the environment -- the ways in which humans responded to and used the environment in which they lived. The author uses the orders and bylaws made by manorial courts to build up a picture of how pastoral society in the Pennine, Lake District and Border hills husbanded the resources of the uplands. It offers an upland, pastoral paradigm of land use, the management of common land, and the transition from medieval to early-modern farming systems to balance the extensive literature on the agrarian history of the lowlands. The geographical scope of the book includes the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, the Border hills, the North Pennines and the Forest of Bowland. Through a lively text and carefully selected illustrations the author captures the distinctive local culture of traditional pastoral communities in these much visited areas of Britain.

Agree with Cilla.......2005-06-18
Like Cilla, I did not agree with the use of alcohol by the characters in the second story of this book. Otherwise, the story would have been really good and I would have given it a higher rating.
Gail Gaymer Martin the only good author in the book.......2004-09-25
This is a two story holiday(Thanksgiving) inspirational release. The story by Gail Gaymer Martin is ok--not her best, but it is hard to develop a plot and characters in such a short story. The only thing I didn't really like about her story was about how quick the heroine jumped to conclusions about the fact that her new boyfriend appeared to be still involved with his ex-fiancee. I realize that the heroine was supposed to have "hang-ups" about trusting men, but this "big mis-understanding" part of the plot seemed to be a bit contrived. It wasn't as if she and the hero had really made any committment and she kind of played the "drama queen" role. Other than that, it was a pleasant little story.
The second story, by Cynthia Rutledge, was horrible, and I tossed the book into the trash after reading it. This story is in a Love Inspired book, which is supposed to be "clean" Christian romance. I realize that some Christians approve of drinking alcohol while others don't. That's fine--the problem I had with this book is that I think it would be better to leave the mention of alcohol out since that way it wouldn't offend anyone. Alcohol use was mentioned several times, and at one point the aunt asks the hero if "had been drinking" because of how he was behaving and he said "only a couple of drinks." It just didn't fit in with what was supposed to be an inspirational story. The author hinted at the hero's past sexual exploits, and never explained how he dealt with them given his falling in love with the heroine, a virgin. The heroine let herself get too attached to the hero before she knew he was a Christian. I felt like the book was just a run-of-the-mill secular romance with a couple of references to God and church thrown in to turn it into an "inspirational romance." Steeple Hill publishes some great inspirational romances in this series. This just wasn't one of them.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.
Book Description
When a mystery writer cries bloody murder, everyone blames her overactive imagination . . .
Thriller scribe Sophie Katz is as hard-boiled as a woman who drinks Grande Caramel Brownie Frappuccinos can be -- maybe it's from a lifetime of fielding dumb comments about her half-black, half-Jewish ethnicity. ("My sister married a Polynesian! I just love your culture!") So Sophie knows it's not paranoia, or post-divorce, living-alone-again jitters, when she becomes convinced that a crazed reader is sneaking into her apartment to reenact scenes from her books. The police, however, can't tell a good plot from an unmarked grave.
When a filmmaker friend is brutally murdered in the manner of a death scene in one of his movies, Sophie becomes convinced that a copycat killer is on the loose -- and that she's the next target. If she doesn't solve the mystery, her own bestseller will spell out her doom. Cursing her imagination (why, oh, why did she have to pick the axe?), Sophie engages in some real-life gumshoe tactics. The man who swoops in to save her in dark alleys at night is mysterious new love interest Anatoly Darinsky. Of course, if this were fiction, Anatoly would be her prime suspect . . .
With a story as delicious as designer coffee -- and with twice the jolt -- Davis and her muse, Sophie Katz, will blow you away with sex, murder and hilarity!
First-time novelist Kyra Davis has spent her life in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area, where she currently lives with her young son. Now a full-time parent and writer, Davis previously divided her time between a career in the fashion industry and various artistic endeavors such as acting, singing and creative writing. In her free time she indulges in lattes, Frappuccinos and anything else that will feed her caffeine addiction.

Small Let Down.......2007-07-26
I also found myself in the wee hours wanting to finish the book. I enjoyed the comedic dialogue and I loved Sophie's friends but the end was weak in my opinion. After all that happened with Sophie and Anatoly, I was left saying, that's all??
Better than a Raspberry Mocha Frappuccino.......2007-07-17
I am not sure what took me so long to pick up this gem of a book! I have had it on my wish list practically since it came out and I had heard wonderful things about it but just never got around to sitting down and reading it. Well, who knew that I was missing out on such a unique, clever and witty series?
Sophie Katz is not your typical chick lit character. For one she is half Jewish and half black (it is great to finally see some ethnicity in chick-lit), secondly she does not work in the fashion or magazine industry, she is a bestselling mystery author, who in `SEX, MURDER & A DOUBLE LATTE' finds herself wrapped up in a mystery of her very own. After the deaths of a couple of A list celebrities Sophie begins to get a few mysterious phone calls and an odd note that reads "you reap what you sow". This is not quite enough to freak Sophie out, however, when the strange incidents start piling up she notices that they are coming from one of her very own novels. Sophie knows that it is not just her mind playing tricks on her but the police will have none of it, in fact she quickly becomes a suspect in her very own stalking as well as some other neighborhood crimes. Now it is up to Sophie and her delightful crew of friends to solve this mystery before the final chapter!
Kyra Davis brings a fresh voice to chick-lit and I cannot wait to hear more from her!
So-So..........2007-05-29
At first I was going to give this four stars, because, for a first-attempt, it isn't that bad.
But then I changed my mind--it should be judged as a piece of literature, and not just as "a first novel".
So all in all, SMaaDL is only okay. As other posters have said, I think that the author tried a little too hard to make me laugh (which she didn't, anyway) and make her own writing seem hip and youthful, which was completely transparent.
As someone else also said, the supporting characters are completely vapid and described in simple terms. More dialogue, showing the actual PERSONALITY of the characters would have made this novel much more relatable.
The "romance" wasn't at all romantic (Sophie is obviously just a sex-deprived "loose" woman, and Anatoly is, well, a guy), and the entire plot was a little too...flat. It seemed as thought the coincidences were just TOO EASY, and the main character just took a while to catch on.
I actually put the book down and started on a Phillipa Gregory novel (now there's a page turner!) to relieve myself of the shallow world of Sophie.
Couldn't Put it Down for a Non-Mystery Reader Like Me.......2007-04-30
As for those who think this is typical Chick Lit. reading and get upset with a main character that isn't believed by a policeman...well...think again! The story is twisted with suspense and if I were a cop...I wouldn't have believed the main character either!
I NEVER read Mystery novels. NEVER! I usually can't get into them, but the title caught my eye and I was hooked...being a coffee addict myself! It was great to meet such and intricate character with an unusual background. I like to think of Sophie as a bit of everyone I have ever met. She is easily relate-able...yet intriguingly different and HILARIOUS!!! I couldn't put the book down, and it led me into reading the sequel in a hurried race to find out what happens in the romance department as well as what other interesting mystery could occur to Sophie, the mystery writer.
I couldn't and wouldn't put the book down! It is a MUST read for anyone who has enjoyed the Chick Lit. genre before and really wants to spice things up with a good mystery too!
Addictive, quality chick lit-- what all Red Dress Books should aspire to!.......2007-04-24
I am not the greatest fan of mysteries, but I am a little more interested in what I call "girly mysteries." Kyra Davis writes a fun and intelligent novel that I just could not put down! And Davis is now one of those authors that I watch and whose books I will pre-order. Even better than having good, fun, well-written "chick-lit," I appreciated having a heroine that I can relate to -- a multicultural woman with at least part black heritage. The women who purchase these novels aren't all tall, blond, straight-haired girls in stilettos, and the heroines of the books should reflect the diversity of the audience. This one does. Thanks, Ms. Davis.
