Book Description
This new Second Edition addresses the latest in picture archiving and communications systems (PACS), from the electronic patient record to the full range of topics in digital imaging. In contrast to the previous edition, this updated text uses the framework of image informatics, not physics or engineering principles, to explain PACS. This book is the only resource that thoroughly covers the critical issues of hardware/software design and implementation in a systematic and easily comprehensible manner.
The new edition features additional chapters on web-based PACS, security, integrating the healthcare enterprise, clinical management systems, and the electronic patient record.
It addresses how PACS can improve workflow, therapy, and treatment, and discusses integration of PACS in hospitals. Offering a clear guide for those purchasing and installing PACS, it is written in clear, non-technical language by a widely acknowledged pioneer in the field and does not assume advanced knowledge of physics, engineering, or math principles. The text also contains substantive new treatment of key topics in image informatics, including light imaging, digital radiography, teleconsultation, and image archive servers.
Customer Reviews:
Quality Issue ?.......2007-05-15
The context of the book definately meets my expectations. The book provides a complete overview of PACs I am a bit concerned as to to quality of the book. The binding has already started to become loose in one section. the book has not been abused in any way. Carried in a briefcase and read at home. May be just this copy.

Essentials of Computational Chemistry: Theories and Models
ASIN: 3527305890 |
Book Description
Written by experienced experts in the field, this book describes the basics to the extent necessary for reliably judging the results from molecular modeling calculations.
Without unnecessary overhead, it leads readers from simple calculations on small molecules to the modeling of proteins and other relevant biomolecules. Beginners are guided through their first modeling experiment, while routine users of modeling software are provided with invaluable troubleshooting hints. A unique resource for students, researchers and lecturers, now available in this all-new, enlarged edition.
"If the currently popular 'Dummies' series of computer books were to publish a volume on molecular modeling this would be it" (Journal of the American Chemical Society)
"The book is well written and assumes no prior knowledge of molecular biology, statistical mechanics, or quantum chemistry. The authors provide practical hints for the application of the majority of available programs in computational chemistry" (Computers in Physics)
Customer Reviews:
Accelrys advertisement.......2007-01-17
This book describes what is essentially docking calculations in the context of the Accerlys software. The text is very qualitative and does not provide enough instruction to do any "molecular modeling". It seems to be more guidlines for various software packages sold by Accerlys.

Book Description
Based on the concept of "conjecture and refutation" from the Popperian philosophy of science, i.e. looking for alternative causes, this book simplifies the design and inferences of human observational studies into two types: descriptive and causal. It clarifies how and why causal inference should be considered from the search for alternative explanations or causes, and descriptive inference from the sample at hand to the source population. Furthermore, it links the health policy and epidemiological concept with decisional questions, for which the basic measurement can be quality-adjusted survival time or quality-adjusted life year.

Book Description
In this accessible text, David Morgan explains the fundamental principals of learning and cognition while employing the central organizing theme that the notion of learning and cognition are best conceptualized as processes that allow animals, including humans, to adapt to complex environments over time.
Customer Reviews:
A good book for Classes on Human Learning.......2002-05-07
I have adopted this text for a class on Human Learning and have found it to be an easily read and useful text. Morgan covers the essentials of "typical" learning modalities...classical, operant and social, and also moves on to address some cognitive issues, which is nice for us teachers who don't necessarily adopt Behaviorist philosophies. The book is written to be easily readable by most college students, though like all texts on learning there is an overemphasis on animal studies which get a bit dry and also are of questionable utility. The text could also benefit from a tad more skepticism regarding the utility of some behavioral technique, particularly given some of the controversies surrounding behavioral therapies for autism (i.e. Lovaas) and other disorders. Nonetheless this book makes for a very helpful text.

Book Description
"General Principles of Tumor Immunotherapy: Basic and Clinical Applications of Tumor Immunology" brings together the world’s leading authorities on tumor immunology. This book describes the basic immunology principles that form the foundation of understanding how the immune system recognizes and rejects tumor cells. The role of the innate and adaptive immune responses is discussed and the implications of these responses for the design of clinical strategies to combat cancer are illustrated through both experimental clinical trials and review of current standard of care therapeutic agents. This information will be invaluable to both students of immunology and cancer research and practicing physicians who have patients with cancer. The book provides a comprehensive overview of the field, demonstrates how advances in basic immunology can and are being applied to cancer, and describes the current status of approved immunotherapy regimens.

Book Description
The polymerase chain reaction has revolutionized molecular biology by allowing the amplification and characterization of minute amounts of nucleic acids. As well as being of use to basic scientists, this technique is of immense importance to pathologists who routinely need to detect and
characterize small amounts of infectious micro-organisms, or to identify mutations within small amounts of human DNA.
This essential handbook outlines clearly and concisely the applications of PCR in the area of infectious and inherited diseases so that methods can be readily used by non-molecular biologists who need them.

Book Description
In order to select an optimal structure among possible similar structures, one needs to compare the elastic behavior of the structures. A new criterion that describes elastic behavior is the rate of change of deformation. Using this criterion, the safe dimensions of a structure that are required by the stress distributed in a structure can be calculated. The new non-linear theory of elasticity allows one to determine the actual individual limit of elasticity/failure of a structure using a simple non-destructive method of measurement of deformation on the model of a structure while presently it can be done only with a destructive test for each structure. For building and explaining the theory, a new logical structure was introduced as the basis of the theory. One of the important physical implications of this logic is that it describes mathematically the universal domain of the possible stable physical relations.
