Book Description
As we enter the twenty-first century the ultimate objective of environmental management programs should be to manipulate ecosystems so that they fulfill the needs of humans and at the same time maintain their integrity. In this new ground-breaking work, Isard and Gage look at the importance of anticipating consequences of the aerial flow of biota as new strategies to understand and manage our environment. A sound understanding of the biological and meteorological interactions that govern the movement of organisms in the atmosphere is a prerequisite to the development of successful management strategies for terrestrial ecosystems. Inflows and outflows of organisms to and from habitats can be as important as birth and death rates in regulating the dynamics of populations.
Isard and Gage focus on predicting events that destabilize relationships among organisms and between populations and their environment. This preventative management strategy is based on the premise that the ability to understand the predict dynamics of populations in an ecosystem allows for optimal and integrative use of a wide variety of methods to enhance human resource productions and to reduce harmful impacts of diseases and organisms on humans.

Book Description
This is a unique book that presents rigorous mathematical results on Fermi-Pasta-Ulam lattices, a field of great interest in nonlinear analysis, nonlinear science, mathematical physics, etc. It considers travelling waves and time periodic oscillations in infinite Fermi-Pasta-Ulam lattices, which are not necessarily spatially homogenous. Similar systems, infinite chains of linearly coupled nonlinear oscillators, are also discussed. The book is self-contained and includes a number of open problems, making it suitable for use in a course for graduate students.
Book Description
In this indispensable training manual, Mike Kirkham, Peggy Weiss, and Bill Crawford draw from more than 40 years of restaurant experience to present a succinct, highly informative guide to the art and science of waiting tables. In today's competitive dining environment, having a skilled wait staff can mean the difference between a restaurant's success or failure, and THE WAITING GAME is the industry's clearest and most cost-effective tool for sharpening wait service skills. Brimming with professional tips, on-the-job advice, and practical definitions, this handbook covers all the essentials of waiting, including wine service etiquette, fine-dining protocol, and the dos and don'ts of dealing with difficult customers. Whether you're a first-time waiter, an experienced server hoping to move to a more prestigious establishment, a manager seeking an accessible training guide, or a foodie craving the definitive word on proper service, THE WAITING GAME has it all.
Customer Reviews:
Great purchase.......2007-02-24
This is a very comprehensive book. I enjoy it and find it very helpful.
For Beginners Only.......2003-09-27
This is a very basic, thinly-written guide for restaurant workers. A good part of the book seems to be spent identifying who does what in a restaurant; definitely not for anyone who has ever worked in an upscale restaurant. There are also plenty of cute illustrations to help drive the authors' points home to the reader; they were somewhat unnecessary and actually gave me the feeling of being something of a fluff tactic and an effort to fill up space. The book would certainly benefit those who had never worked in a restaurant or had only served/hosted/bartended/bussed in a more casual place. Do not buy this book if you have ever owned a crumber!

A Waiting Game.......1999-12-24
The back cover reads:
"He wanted her! His kisses aroused and demanded a passion she had never known. Nicholas Coleman had given her everything--the chance of a lifetime. Now he demanded--and offered--so much more. Seven years had passed since she had come to New York. Seven wonderful, successful years. But Keena Whitman, designer extraordinaire, would never forget what it meant to be the daughter of a poor Georgia millworker...to love--and be rejected by--a man like Jim Harris. Now she had come home, to renovate the old house, to give a grand party, to show them all. Even as Nicholas waited in the magnolia-scented night to claim her, Keena schemed to have Jim's arms around her, torn between the taste of sweet surrender and an appetite for revenge."

Customer Reviews:
Okay!.......2005-10-06
I didn't read the book The Waiting Game by Jayne Ann Krentz but I listened to it on an abridged audio cassette recording and while I liked the plot and I liked the hero Adrian Saville and the heroine Sarah Fraser I think this would have been better if it was an unabridged audio cassette recording. As for the reader for this audio cassette recording, Susie Breck, I think she pretty much did a good job though she could have done a little better, put a little more emotion in her reading. It was a little wooden.
two and a half stars.......2004-01-31
It didn't take me long to realize I was reading an old JAK. However, this was defintely one of her better early works. I actually liked the hero here - he was kind and considerate and it was totally understandable that he didn't want to tell Sara about his former life. My problem with this book was with Sara. What an idiot! Unfortunately, the plot was based on her acting like an idiot so I really didn't like the plot either. I think if Sara had been a normal JAK heroine and the plot reworked a bit, this could have been an excellent read.
Good book- Bad movie.......2002-10-23
Okay so the girl was somewhat silly in the book but JAK was still able to write in a way that made the story interesting. The hero was worth buying the book for I will give you that. However, if you are thinking of seeing the movie...DON'T. The book was ruined in the movie and the girl went from being silly to stupid.
enjoyable, but also a pain.......2002-10-14
This puppy has been reprinted and reprinted, a 1985 JAK that is one of her better early works. The characters are charming and the writing diamond brilliant, though I really really wanted to slap the female every once in a while, for she really bordered on silly. I mean her uncle said WAIT and what does she do?? She wants to go to Southeast Asia with a man she suspects is a rogue CIA agent??? OH PLEASE. Some intelligent needed. When she would go on and on arguing I really got tired of WAITING...and when she was almost kidnapped off the streets the day before, what did she do...walk a mile into town to get her car with boyfriend following all the way and she never was aware.
Only JAK's bright righting kept this one from really sinking fast. I did like Adrian's character, but wish Sara was less of a dolt.
Audiobook Review.......2002-05-03
I listened to the audiobook recording of Jayne Ann Krentz's The Waiting Game and though the story itself was good I just wasn't happy with the reader she didn't change her voice for the different characters so it was hard at times to figure out who said what, I had to rewind the tape back a bit several times because I wasn't sure if it Was Sara or Adrian who was supposed to be talking and personally I like it when the reader makes his or her voice sound different for each character and since I didn't find this audiobook very entertaining it's not going to be one of my keepers! I definitely liked the plot though and I hope to buy the paperback book.

still WAITING for a happy ending.......2007-09-17
For fans of the book and movie Sooner or Later, this may be a letdown. I just could NOT see Michael and Jess in these characters. Nor could I see Jessie's parents or Grandma. I get the lesson here. Your first love and lover may not withstand the test of time. But there are other novels that tell that story extremely well, such as Forever by Judy Blume. As a pre-teen, I LOVED the movie and Rex Smith, this was not the happy ending that you hope for. I still LOVE the movie and Rex. I know that life doesn't always have happy endings, believe me I do. But I think a lot of fans of Sooner or Later will wish that it had ended better. I'm waiting for Now or Never, and will read it with an open mind. I think that the book is very good, but not for those hardcore Sooner or Later fans. I had to watch the DVD, just to get the bad taste out of my mouth.
Soooooo disappointed.......2007-05-29
I can not believe that the Harts did this to Michael and Jessie. They said the only reason that they even made a sequel to Sooner or Later was because the fans "demanded" it. I don't think, no I know this is not what they/we wanted. I have ordered the third book "Now or Never" and I am hoping it will be better but I'm worried it's not. I haven't heard many good things about it either. And to be honest, I'm almost afraid to read it. What have the Harts done to them now? They say there is room for a 4th book, if so, Bruce and Carole, please write it and make Michael and Jessie live happily ever after. There is a site called "He's all that" and they have written their own conclusions to the "Michael and Jessie" saga. Maybe Bruce and Carole should take a look at those. "They" show how it really should end. Happily!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd rather have my gums scraped.............2004-05-05
Wow. Where can I even start? First of all, I didn't even KNOW there was a sequel to "Sooner or Later" until I came across this book in the 25-cent bargain bin (and its a good thing I didn't pay one cent more or I would have been LIVID!) at Half Price Books. I LOVED the movie "Sooner or Later", (never read the book) so I figured this would be an interesting read. AAACK! This book is AWFUL! I couldn't even get interested enough to START it, after trying 3 times! Finally I just bit the bullet and started reading. First of all, I assume that Bruce & Carole Hart are semi-educated adults...therefore I cannot understand why this book seems like it is actually written BY a thirteen year old, not just from a thirteen year old's perspective. Another thing that REALLY annoyed me...the ONLY reason this book is over 300 pages long is because
most of the book
is written like this
with four word sentences
that don't even
fill a page
its so frickin' annoying
I wanted to scream
just a few pages
into it!
I realized after coming here that there's a THIRD installment! UUGH! I think you'd have to check me into the Nut House if I even tried embark on the journey I'm sure THAT one is. Save yourself. I could only bear to read half and then I just had to put it down, its horrid. Stick with the movie and your old Sooner or Later LP, you'll keep yourself sane.
I read this book when I was 15..........2002-10-05
..because it was the sequel to "Sooner or Later", which was an awesome little movie and book. In this sequel, Jessie and Michael consummate their relationship and then Michael leaves to go on tour...leaving Jessie worried about being pregnant for the remainder of the book. I kind of found it disturbing because Jessie is only 14 in the book, and you start to see that Michael is not the Prince Charming as portrayed in "Sooner or Later"...the story is very real and interesting and I would recommend it, however.
Picks up where sooner or later left off..........2002-06-17
When I first purchased this book, I was expecting a little more insight into Jessie and Michael's relationship after they declared their love for one another in the sooner or later book. I felt that this book did not go into enough detail about the ups and downs of Michael and Jessies realtionship, nor did we really read enough about Michael's feelings at all. The big "love scene" was disappointing to say the least and from there Michael's transformation from a great guy to a waffling
jerk took place. The Michael I love from the movie SOL is not in this book nor will you find him in the third installment, Now or Never. I think the movie version has really spoiled me because Rex Smith's portrayal of Michael is totally different. He is maturer, sexier and you could really believe in the love he feels for Jessie.
Customer Reviews:
You might get bored if your older than eight.......2003-04-20
When I was 8 I loved this book and found it very interesting. Now, though I find it boring. Now I'm more into longer books, like Lemony Snicket. This book is for younger children and although its good for a quick look, its not something I put on my favourite list anymore. Get this book if you are around the age of eight. Although there is not much writing it has amusing pictures. It has some quizzes that are fun to try, and activities, like "make your own olmpyic games" such as the popcorn olympics. Younger children will probably enjoy this but unless you are a fan of these books I don't recommend this. A while from now you will probably donate it to your local libary.

I love Amelia. Well, OK, I only have one Amelia but it's still really funny, cool, nice, and more. There are funny things about the doctor in this book which will make you laugh! I also like it because it has terrific knock-knock jokes in it. I read the book on a cold winter's day and it made me feel warm with its humor. Enjoy!
This is a great book!!.......1999-10-25
I'd recomend this book to anyone who: loves enthusiasim, gets bored a lot, or who loves to read! I'm a 11 year-old girl and I've tried all of the things that Amelia has suggested for getting bored. The best thing about this book is that you can do the things again and again!!

Don't WAIT to get it!.......2001-01-30
A friend sent me a copy of THE WAITING GAME, knowing how much I value good customer service in restaurants. I found this book to be a thorough and comprehensive review of excellent service. It was both informative and educational, but not boring at all. I recommend it to all wait staff and management alike!

Great Fun!.......2002-11-08
I love this book! Everyone who owns a computer has all the necessary components at their disposal to make the arts and crafts projects or games and puzzles created by the author. It's a lot of fun, and would make a terrific stocking stuffer, pollyanna gift, or housewarming present, for anyone on your holiday list!
Totally demented.......2002-10-28
I read an interview with the author in the New York Times and thought this book sounded pretty cool. Now that I have it, I can report that it is totally demented. The activities are completely nuts--what kind of person thinks this stuff up?--but the amazing thing is, they all really work. Even the Floppy Disk Halloween Mask. And the drawings are terrific. Best of all it even comes with a mouse-pad cover. It's a great gift for the computer geek in your life.
