This is "THE BOOK".......1999-09-06
What you need to know about chameleons is in this book! I enjoyed reading it and learning everything about this little creature. From it's history and evolution, to it's anatomy and manerisms. What I really wanted was a book which explained how to care for the chameleon and I picked the right one.Francois LeBerre makes me feel comfortable caring for the chameleon. The size of the book is good for handling and storing. The print is large and clear, easy to read and the pictures are messmerizing. When I browsed through other books on the topic, they seemed like a joke compared to this informative publication! I recommend this to beginners (which I am) because you'll feel like an expert (LeBerre) when you're done. Enjoy!!!
it was great.......1999-01-26
The book gave me a lot of information and it had a lot of grate pictures. The book is easy to understand and they tell alot of info.
Best book on chameleons.......1998-11-13
My name is Nobu, I am from Japan. Here in Japan, Francois Le Berre is famous for his work on chameleons, this book is the best I have ever read on my favourite animals. Some Japanese publishers have found the pictures so good that they have been using them in some of the japanese magazines too. The information is very complete and the pictures astonishing, I am looking forward for Francois Le Berre's next book. He is unsurpassed and really is the Master of Chameleons!
This IS a good book, but can be improved........1998-06-23
In light of the two previous reviews, I felt compelled to add my own thoughts. It is a very good book, but lacks some information I think is essential for the beginner. The author makes little or no reference to common names of the organisms (where a common name is ascribed). This would make it difficult for the typical beginner to relate the scientific name of the organism with the common name that is usually available at the site of purchase. The author also fails to give adequate information regarding the size attained for a full grown adult specimen. This is especially important when a budding herptologist decides to embark on caring for a "beginners" specimen, but is not told that the animal will be two feet long as an adult. This can be critical when one is designing a habitat. It is not at all uncommon to see beginners think of these wonderful animals as being "small and cute", when in fact many of the easiest to care for become quite large. That being said, LeBerre has certainly prepared an excellent guide, and the photos are wonderful. It is the best book out there for the layman, and does in fact rate five stars.
Great things do come in small packages, this is it!.......1997-12-01
Do not be fooled by the size and soft cover of this book, it is in a class by itself. The author covers every aspect of the art and science of Chameleon husbandry. It becomes immediately apparent that the author has an intimate knowledge of chameleon natural history and captive husbandry. He presents unique ways of helping the reader understand chameleon natural history, behavior, reproduction and captive care. Especially noteworthy is the breadth of chameleon species described. There is no skimping on data: natural range, other common names, subspecies, age to maturation, clutch size, incubation/pseudo-gestation duration, incubation temperature, lighting, feeding, etc...everything you need to know to keep and breed common and rare chameleon species of all genera. Asthetically the book is a masterpiece. Photos of rarely seen uncommon and common species, in their best colors, accompany each species description. The author's lifelong experiences, research and passion for chameleons have resulted in an unbelievably informative yet practical book which has the ability to inspire the most seasoned chameleon keeper/breeder.
Book Description
Boas are a diverse group of both New and Old World snakes. Adult specimens of certain sand boa species attain a maximum size of only two to three feet, while the green anaconda may exceed 30 feet in length. For decades, humans have maintained boas in captivity. Recreating a suitable environment in which various boa species can thrive and even reproduce has always been a challenge for the herpetoculturist. Captive Husbandry and Propagation of the Boa Constrictors and Related Boas contains detailed information specific to boa species and subspecies. All major captive care considerations are addressed allowing boa keepers to provide for, and possibly breed their captives. Comprehensive chapters on heating devices and their application to herpetoculture, and designing a herp room will be extremely beneficial for everyone maintaining any species of reptiles, as well as the boa keeper

Captive Husbandry & Propagation of Boa Constrictors.......2004-08-05
This is the perfect book for all ranges and levels of Boa owners from a single animal owner all the way to a professional breeder. This book is scaled more to the professional but, I highly recommend this book be in every library. Extremely informative. The book has some Color pictures, a perfect guide to sexing different Boas with a extremely well written chart for sexing many many boas, In - Depth coverage of husbandry of Boas, Heavily detailed on different species of Boas, This book also has an excellent list of both the Common names and the Scientific names of Boas, and Well worth the money!
A milestone in boid husbandry information........1998-12-07
This is an excellent volume for anyone wanting information on keeping or breeding boas. The superb chapters on designing a herp room, and heating devices will benefit anyone keeping reptiles of anykind ,not just boas. I thought the photos were especially good, including some of boas I've never seen.
good book.......1997-08-21
This is a great book if you are looking for information on breeding boas.It gives strategies and proven methods for a few different boids. The info is great. The reason I did not give this book a 10 is because I think they could have added more pictures for the price

Reptilian Incubation: Environment and Behaviour

Book Description
A recent rapid expansion in our knowledge of embryonic development in birds and reptiles has created a need for a book that comprehensively reviews and synthesizes data relating to incubation effects on the embryonic development of these two vertebrate classes. The contributors to this book aptly deal with these issues in logical parts. The first deals with the structure, shape, and function of eggs. The second examines the effects of the four main parameters, e.g. temperature, water relations, respiratory gas exchange, and turning, on the process of incubation. The third section deals with early embryonic development and the methods used to investigate and manipulate the embryo. Further chapters deal with estivation, megapodes, and oviparity.
Book Description
The Trinidadian guppy (^IPoecilia reticulata^N) is well known to biologists and home aquarium enthusiasts alike. Scientists have studied guppies for most of the twentieth century. Some of the most intensive recent research has been conducted by behavioral ecologists, who have found that the guppy mating system makes guppies especially useful in the study of sexual selection and mate choice. By observing guppy behavior in aquaria, researchers hope to obtain new insights into how selection operates in natural populations. Here Anne Houde summarizes and synthesizes the scientific work done to date, relates the empirical findings on guppies to current themes in sexual selection theory, and suggests new directions for future research. This book describes the sexual behavior of guppies and examines how mate choice by females leads to the evolution of the conspicuous colors and the courtship displays for which guppies are widely recognized. The author shows that female guppies prefer males with bright color patterns, especially those with orange spots, and that the mating preferences of females lead to sexual selection on both color patterns and courtship displays of males. Houde's work addresses a number of areas that are of interest in sexual selection, including the remarkable degree of plasticity and evolutionary lability of sexual behavior in guppies, geographic variation in mating preferences, possible mechanisms for the evolution of female mating preferences, and the role of sexual selection in speciation. In conclusion, the author explores the implications of her findings for behavioral ecologists who study sexual selection in other species.
Customer Reviews:
So much more than guppies.......2001-04-03
Anne Houde's book is not only about sex and mate choice in guppies, but is a profound review of the state of knowledge in sexual selection and mate choice evolution in the late 1990's. Her chapters on models of mate choice evolution in particular are among the clearest and most even handed treatments of a rather complex and difficult field. This book will be of immense value to anyone interested in the evolution and ecology of sexual reproduction and mate choice. It is of extra value to "guppyologists" because of the way Houde reviews all of the techniques used in different labs, and for the fantastic "to do" list of future research questions that she offers.

Book Description
This comprehensive survey of geckoes is the only book currently available in English devoted exclusively to these unique and fascinating creatures. Geckoes, a rich and diverse group of reptiles, have successfully adapted to a wide variety of climates and habitats, and seldom present any problems if kept correctly. This beautifully illustrated volume explains the history, evolution, and range of the species, and also provides the information necessary for all aspects of gecko care and breeding -- including housing, heating, lighting, incubation, diet, and the treatment of disease. This book, written by two of Europe's most eminent gecko specialists, will prove an invaluable addition to the library of anyone who deals with geckoes in an amateur or professional capacity
Customer Reviews:
Coborn's book is better and cheaper!.......2003-02-01
This book is waaayyy overpriced, when you can get John Coborn's Breeding and Keeping Geckoes, a much better book with larger and better illustrations for much less than half the price. Only if you're a biology major doing a thesis on geckoes would you need Henkel's book.
A wonderful reference manual for the amature Herp Hobbyist.......1998-10-28
This book contains a great deal of information on nearly every species, including most of the necessary information to properly maintain and breed these animals in captivity. It is the best, most informative, and most packed with facts book I have found to date on Geckos. I recomend this book highly.
A must have reference for anyone interested in Geckos........1998-01-11
"Geckoes" translated by John Hackworth 1995, from the original German Edition 1991. John Hackworth, who is also an amateur herpetologist has done an excellent translation of this extensive manuscript. This book is an great reference for anyone interested in geckos. It has 77 species accounts covering the geckos that are most commonly kept in captivity. "Geckoes" covers information about geckos in detail that many other books of this type often over generalize. The book that I would recommend in every gecko enthusiast's library.

A SUNKEN TREASURE..........2006-10-16
Grasper is a young crab who says he ''feels as though he is going to burst''. The other crabs tell him he is going through the process of molting for the first time. ''Be careful Grasper,'' they tell him ''for when your shell is soft, so is your heart, and that is a dangerous life''. Grasper ventures above the rocks of his home and into a lush coral reef where he discovers a world full of hidden wonders. Lewis's intricately detailed illustrations are enough to take one's breath away. They capture that ''underwater feel'' reminiscent of Grame Base's classic picture book THE SIGHN OF THE SEA HORSE. GRASPER is a beautiful parable about how an open mind can achieve miracles.
grasper.......2004-02-11
My girls are 2 and not only do they love the pictures which are simply georgous, but they like to hear the story. I'm glad to be able to have a book to read to them which also has a wonderful teaching message.
Review by a seven year old boy.......2000-05-04
I think "Grasper" is a great book. I'm only seven and I never had to stop once. If you want a book with good illustrations and pictures...Grasper's the one!

Book Description
This book is an introduction to the application of nonlinear dynamics to problems of stability, chaos and turbulence arising in continuous media and their connection to dynamical systems. With an emphasis on the understanding of basic concepts, it should be of interest to nearly any science-oriented undergraduate and potentially to anyone who wants to learn about recent advances in the field of applied nonlinear dynamics. Technicalities are, however, not completely avoided. They are instead explained as simply as possible using heuristic arguments and specific worked examples.

Disappointing.......2006-07-03
As much as I loved the first novel in this series "The Fabulous Life of Emily Briggs" was as disappointed as I was with this book "Escape from Bridzella." The author tries too hard to make the book as fun as the first, but fails to give the characters any emotions or depth. I found myself skipping passages just to get to the end. I was incredibly let down as I ordered "Bridzella" while I was enthralled in reading "Emily Briggs."
Witty to Boot.......2005-10-19
This book was a delight to read. The heroine has a great voice, the story moves quickly and I found myself laughing out loud. There are some references that I found very humorous, catching myself thinking of past times.
Her realtionships are very insightful, and I secretly rooted for a certain fellow!
Shallow and Obnoxious,.......2005-10-01
I can't believe someone agreed to publish this junk! The "heroine" is so disgusting. It took me forever to read because I had to keep looking up and rolling my eyes. We get it - you're better than everyone else. But not nearly as clever as you think you are.
emily again.......2005-08-02
I loved the first Emily Briggs book and couldn't wait for the follow up. I was disappointed with some of the events of this book but overall enjoyed the book. I did get tired of Emily's comment - I'm not materialistic - over and over in the book.
Bad writing.......2005-08-02
I could not get into this book AT ALL. I can't relate to the character and I swear if the author uses one more high school english sentence I'm going to scream. I'm not going to waste my time with this one.
