Not as complete as I had hoped.......1998-01-13
Full page color plates of some of the most common tartans, but the book is not as complete as I was looking for. The plates are not as crisp as they could be, and the color quality is off. Altogether, a good introduction to the common tartans, but not the definitive guide the title suggests.

This is a great book to keep track of your child's school memories. Good space to keep those precious drawings, report cards, etc and lots of room to write in the child's thoughts, favorites, etc. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great way to keep school memories for your child.

My son isn't even near kindergarten, but I had to have this journal when I saw it! Everyone who sees it wants one. It will surely keep me organized-- without overwhelming me with too many blanks to fill in. I love the pockets for keepsakes. Note that it's smaller than 8.5 x 11, so some precious artworks and papers will need to be folded or stored elsewhere.
Brings back memories.......2007-09-11
This item is very similar to a keepsake album I had when I was a kid with a pocket for pictures and keepsakes and space to write notes, which is exactly what I wanted. The main difference between the two albums is the height of this album is somewhat shorter, so I was slightly disapointed. Otherwise I think it is a good buy.
Wonderful keepsake for school kids!.......2007-09-08
I have purchased and seen other school keepsake books and this one is of very good quality. The cover and pages are durable and allow for many papers and pictures to be stored. We have had a lot of fun with our three kids (kindegarten, 3rd grade, and 8th grade) entering the personalized information and we look forward to filling it for many years to come!

I used the book when I went cropping 2 weeks ago and it was very helpful. I am a beginner and not very creative and it helped a lot. I will definitely get another book.

Math in Motion:Origami in the Classroom.......2005-01-24
As a homeschool parent and teacher this book has been a wonderful resource. My nine year old son, Jack, and I love using it. I tell all my homeschooling friends about it as well as friends whose children struggle with math in school. When I asked Jack about a review, he said, "You must tell everyone that I love this hands on approach!" I also tutor a young lady who admitted that she hated math, but I convinced her to have a go by using Math in Motion and she now loves to fold, feels she can can attempt a math problem without falling apart and is open to a hands on approach to learning about place value,which we have just started. Math in Motion - a totally enjoyable learning experience.......2003-09-27
Although I am neither a teacher nor a grade schooler, I found exceeding pleasure, while reading "Math in Motion," in brushing up on aspects of math that I had long ago forgotten. But beyond the math, I thoroughly enjoyed making the origamis depicted in the book. While using this book to create each of the origamis, I found the instructions easy to both read and follow. (Of course, the spiral binding is yet another much-appreciated feature.) I had never been successful in Japanese paper folding before in my 60+ years, even though I had attempted it several times, and so it was exciting for me to complete my very first origami!
Written primarily as a teacher's guide, I still highly recommend "Math in Motion" for anyone between the ages of 5 and 105! If you are looking for a way to spend a marvelous afternoon at home, I suggest purchasing, reading, and using "Math in Motion." The author, Barbara Pearl, is a jewel! Thank you, Barbara, for this wonderful gift - a book to treasure, to use, and to share with friends and family alike.
Origami is Therapeutic!.......2003-09-21
I purchased Math in Motion for my first semester of student teaching. One of the students in the Learning Support Class has Asperger's Syndrome. He was especially agitated and noncooperative and the only thing he responded to was when I started to do origmai. He was fascinated with the Jumping Frog and the movements and the patterns. Now I use it as a reward. It helps him to calm down and focus on the activities. I let him choose something else from the book and next we are going to fold the Whale. It has become the highlight of our day!

Folding to Learn, Learning to Fold.......2001-11-08
Several years ago I never would have bought a book or attended a workshop like Math in Motion because I did not think it was relevant. But from the moment we started, Ms. Pearl made us all feel so comfortable-an ideal environment for learning, especially a subject like mathematics, which may be stressful. I wanted to create the same atmosphere and remove the fear element from learning mathematics. The workshop experience made us feel like we were a team. I felt like I could do anything. And it gave me the motivation to try more. Ms. Pearl's book outlines lesson plans that support NCTM Standards and has teaching scripts and tips for developing a warm and inviting hands-on learning environment that is educational and fun. The multidisciplinary approach connects math to other subjects including reading, science, and social studies. The step-by-step directions are clear and easy to follow. Multicultural activities teach an appreciation of other cultures from exploring tangrams to writing Haiku. The three most exciting words from my students were, "I did it!" I think this is also great for building kids' self-esteem. The book encourages you to have students write down on their paper manipulatives math vocabulary that helps them to remember it--younger kids can trace the place with their fingers as they say it. Now, I know that math is not BAD. When adults feel good about what they are teaching, children will feel better too. Making Chinese Papercuts.......2003-02-11
I used this book to introduce a Kindergarten class to Chinese Paper Cutting. I used the flower pattern in the book to trace a template to use for the children to try their own Chinese Paper Cutting. It was a little bit hard for the Kindergarten class as not everyone had good fine motor skills, but they loved it. The book also had some interesting pictures which the kids liked.

Over the past two decades environmental issues have become important in public and business policy. This book asks why firms sometimes voluntarily adopt environmental policies that go beyond legal requirements. Prakash argues that existing explanations, especially from neoclassical economics, concentrate on external factors at the expense of internal dynamics. His argument is supported by analysis of two firms, Baxter International Inc. and Eli Lilly and Company, including interviews with managers, and access to meetings and documents. Greening the Firm examines why firms selectively adopt "beyond-compliance" environmental policies, the ones that are more stringent than the requirements of extant laws. It employs a new-institutionalist perspective and also draws insights from sociological institutional theory and stakeholder theory. It argues that existing explanations, especially neoclassical economic theory, based on factors external to firms are under-specified and a focus on internal dynamics is also required. "Beyond-compliance" policies are adopted, if at all, due to two types of intra-firm processes: power-based and leadership-based.
It focuses on ten cases in two firms: Baxter International Inc. and Eli Lilly and Company. Data was collected by interviewing numerous managers, attending environmental policymaking meetings, and examining internal documents. Consequently, this book is one of the select few that actually examine the internal working of firms on environmental issues in a theoretically rigorous way. It makes a significant theoretical contribution to a broader set of literature often subsumed under the "theory of firm" and its findings and conclusions are generalizable across firms and issue areas.
