The seond section puts forth guidelines for the evaluation of suicide risk and crisis intervention. A focus on more sustained efforts in psychotherapy is next, a theme which is continued in the fourth part by addressing psychiatric issues that are essential for treatment of highly disturbed and lethal patients.; The following section examines a number of clinical and legal issues that transcend any one population of suicidal people, and any particular treatment approach or context. And lastly, the volume returns to Arthur Inman, with case consultations providing alternative perspectives and recommendations on his treatment. Suicide and related forms of self-injurious behaviour can be circumvented, if the involved professionals are sufficiently trained in assessment and prevention.

This book is a MUST for anyone who is taking the AP Physics, or have ambition for the physics Olympiad or contest at the beginning undergraduate level. It has almost all the typical problems that your intructor would put in your final exam's CHALLENGING PROBLEM OR BONUS PROBLEM Section. If you work through all the problems, you will have no problem achieving A's in your classe. Best problem book for undergraduate students!!
The other ones I would recommend is
1) Thinking Like a Physicist by N. Thompson;
2) International Physics Olympiad has all the challenging problems at elementary level that you will find great joy in working on them. It helps to make you a smarter physics student!!

I am a retired science person who volunteers as an eighth grade science teacher. My primary notion is to convince the students that an understanding of the basic ideas of physics will enable you to comprehend more complex principals. To accomplish this, I am always searching for real life examples which demonstrate physics ideas. "The Flying Circus of Physics" provides a rich mix of these examples that makes the student see physics as part of their day-to-day life and not an abstraction.

For about a year, I've restrained myself from buying this book, since the reviews and description did not reflect the 2007 (once set at 2006) edition. About a month ago, I suggested they do something about it. I may have even written to Walker. At last, the description is up to date. However, a week ago I just decided to buy the book and write a mini-review. I'm just going to say a few words though.
It's a much larger format width/height wise. The answers are placed after the question and they are generally much longer responses than the first edition, which I thought were a bit too brief. These are completely new topics. The references are gone, but I do believe they are on his web site--in spades. There's quite a bit of supplemental info there. To find it his site just Google to "Jearl Walker" flying circus.
I suspect another difference in the book is the questions seem to have gotten further away from common basic physics. For example, in his first book he poses the question why does the cardboard stay in place when you turn over a glass of water with a cardboard over its mouth? Of course, there are many deeper questions in edition one. Nevertheless, his questions are interesting in the second edition. He's punctuated the book with some fun "short stories" like fire-walking. The book strikes me something like the approach of Mad about Physics, which also pulls examples from (a) physics journal in the manner of Walker's first edition. I don't quite see the "conceptual" tone as in Paul Hewitt's book Conceptual Physics, or in Epstein's Thinking Physics. Just different ways of thinking about physics.

This is my favorite book. This is a fantastic collection of hundreds of physics puzzlers, many taken from everyday life. It is full of thought-provoking questions about: superballs, silly putty, tops, and yo-yos; boiling water, dripping faucets, and blowing bubbles; rain, rainbows, snow, lightning, and tornados; bicycles, cars, boats, airplanes, and spaceships; magnets, electricity, radio, and television. It has answers in the back, but it is more fun if you try to figure it out for yourself, and resist looking up the answer. Some of these simple questions are so deep that scientists don't know the answers yet. Literally wonder-full.

I chanced upon this book and now can't put it down. I never realized how little I know about how the world around me works. This asks questions about physics in everyday life, not esoteric particle-accelerator stuff. Absolutely fascinating and the best read I've had in a long time.

Alright, this book gives you what you need. all the ... answers. Sometimes the [people] who grade your homework force you to show your work so this little manual cant help you there but its still worth the [money]. IF your ... profs dont want you to show your work, then this should be happy time for you.
Several Errors, Little Explaination.......2001-10-30
I use this book to check my answers to my homework assignments. I usually find at least one or two errors per chapter. The even numbered problems are answered in the textbook, and sometimes disagree with those contained in this book. Also, don't expect an explanation on how the authors arrived at the answers in the book. If the answer is 5m/s or 30deg n of w then that is all you get (just like in the back of the textbook). Occasionally they will state an assumption they have made to draw their conclusion. In summary, if you just want the answers, it's worth the $10. If you want an explanation, get one of those 1 million physics problems solved books.
The Only One!.......2000-05-16
I am recently studying the textbook written by Hans Ohanian, 2nd edition. This book is very well written and suitable for beginning physics majors. The great benefit is that there IS a COMPLETE answer book accompanied with the text which just costs less than $10. This is the only one that has complete answers/solutions manual available for students. For Serway's, Tipler's, Halliday-Resnick-Walker's, Giancoli's, Young&Freeman's, Lee&Burke's, Wolfson's, and Hecht's, none has a solution manual that contains even half of the problems in their books. I highly recommend this book to those whose truly love physics problem-solvings and those who want to master the most fundamental yet a little challenging classical physics.
Sometimes you can't find your professor when you have problems and are eager to know the answers after long-period of trying without success. Then this is the only one for you.

Book Description

Loved it! The last reviewer obviously didn't read parts 2 or 3 which take place in Israel and Korea. If he or she had read those parts, he or she would know that the characters had equally frustrating encounters with Jewish extremists, Muslim extremists, Christian extremists, and Canadians.
Not worth the time spent reading it........2006-03-01
The book is honestly a disgrace. I have to admit, there are some funny pages, hilarious perhaps only to those who have lived similarly cultural shocks between Egypt and the US. But the rest of the book is pure trash. It is also a shame that the author after spending 2 years in Egypt have failed to see many of the nice things in Egypt, and to be more respectful of Islam, especially that it was very evident that she had very little knowledge about it.
Also, because of my personal knowledge of certain events/characters in this book, I can totally say that E.G. lacks being observant and analytical in her view of Egypt.
If you want to waste away time and money, go ahead and read it, but otherwise...avoid it better

Highly entertaining. I gaurantee a great ab workout from laughing. Some of the characters are so quirky, they belong in John Irving Books.

...if you have a soul, or anything better to do with your life. this book is unrealistic, though supposedly based on eg's real life "adventures." the author must've left out a few things! perhaps if "eg" was honest in her book and uncovered two sides of a saga, it would be a better book. sucks. honestly sucks.

Take a virtual trip around the world! I really liked reading about both the good and bad aspects of living abroad. E.G. Barbuto doesn't make it seem glamourous, but Aviva and Aisha still have lots of memorable experiences that could only happen abroad. I'm recommending Aviva and Aisha's Adventures to everyone.
