Chemical Physics of Nanostructured Semiconductors
Manufacturer: Brill Academic Publishers ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 9067643823 |
Book Description
Deep and detailed discussions on chemistry, chemical physics, photoelectrochemistry, photophysics, photocatalysis and possible applications of nanostructured semiconductor materials have shown increasing interest in the matter by scientists representing various research areas as well as industrial enterprises. Indeed, solar energy conversion and chemical methods for its realization became very popular again after the ``great jump'' of renewable energy sources between the middle of the 1970s and the beginning of the 1980s. Several excellent books have been published over the past years, however, in these books no attempt was made to approach this research area from the point of view of classical chemical physics. With this book, the editors aim: a) to generate an adequate scope of the modern trends and data obtained during the last years in the area of chemical physics of nanostructured materials, in particular, nanocrystalline semiconductors; b) to select an equal mix of scientists from Western and Eastern countries, all of them experts in their respective research areas; and c) to present to the international scientific community many interesting and important results which have been obtained by former Soviet Union researchers, but are not well known because they had originally been published in Russian books and journals. This book will be interesting and useful for scientists working in the area of semiconductor nanotechnology, photoelectrochemistry, photocatalysis, photochemistry of water and air purification, as well as for graduate and post-graduate students who are planning to join these research areas.

Recent Developments in Thin Film Research: Epitaxial Growth and Nanostructures, Electron Microscopy and X-Ray Diffraction (European Materials Research Society Symposia Proceedings)
G. Ritter , C. Matthai , O. Takai , A.M. Rocher , A.G. Cullis , S. Ranganathan , and K. Kuroda Manufacturer: Elsevier Science ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0444205136 |
Book Description
The ICAM'97 symposium on "Recent Developments in Electron Microscopy and X-Ray Diffraction of Thin Film Structures" was presented at the combined 1997 International Conference on Applied Materials/European Materials Research Society Spring meeting (ICAM'97/E-MRS'97) held in Strasbourg (France) from 16-20 June 1997. . More than 60 participants representing 10 countries met to discuss the recent developments related to the study of crystalline structure of thin films: first stages of growth, morphology, strains and their relaxation. The aim of this symposium was to discuss the applications of both electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction in thin film studies.X-ray diffraction is a non-destructive method giving very accurate information in reciprocal space for the determination of crystalline data. Many of the contributions were concerned with following such growth processes such as epitaxy of metals and semiconducting materials, measuring the average strain and the structure and the morphology of the films.
The electron microscopy investigations allow the study of microstructures and crystalline defects. The main handicap is the necessity for the destruction of the specimens. Electron microscopy is useful for studying the randomly distributed failures in periodicity of crystalline structures.

Synoptic-Dynamic Meteorology in Midlatitudes: Volume II: Observations and Theory of Weather Systems (Synoptic-Dynamic Meteorology in Midlatitudes)
Howard B. Bluestein Manufacturer: Oxford University Press, USA ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
ASIN: 019506268X |
Book Description
Synoptic meteorology, the study of large-scale weather systems and forecasting using observation, and dynamic meteorology, the study of the laws of physics involved in air movement, are treated in this major new text in two volumes. The author, a meteorologist noted for his research on tornadoes and severe storms, based his work on material he has taught for the past 14 years at the University of Oklahoma. There are no modern texts on the topic. Volume II covers the formation, motion and climatology of extratropical weather systems in the context of the quasigeostrophic theory and "IPV" thinking, the formation and structure of fronts and jets, applications of semigeostrophic theory, and the observed structure and dynamics of precipitation systems in midlatitudes.Customer Reviews:
thorough coverage of synoptic meteorology.......2002-09-03
If you are new to meteorology, you'll still need a strong mathmematical background to follow Bluestein's text. The book is written at the academic level...I believe that it is best suited as a reference for those with prior courses in meteorology.
There are not many review problems at the end of any of the three chapters; this is disappointing, as there could easily be dozens (or more!) per section. Still, Bluestein's two-volume series is a must-have for all serious meteorologists.
Well written college Text.......2002-05-16
All the weather plus the mathematics behind it.......2002-04-29
Holton Takes A Vacation.......2000-08-30
Part II is more geered toward operational forecasting and if you had dynamic meteo in college and still have Holton, only purchase Part II. Part I is a nice review of what you should have all ready known and only really used again since college if you are in grad school...otherwise, Part 2 is great, detailing synoptic wx systems and the interaction with QGOE forcing, etc...a nice comprehensive review, and some things new too, well worth the buy (only drawback is the price, ouch!!!)

Synoptic-Dynamic Meteorology in Midlatitudes: Principles of Kinematics and Dynamics, Vol. 1
Howard Bluestein Manufacturer: Oxford University Press, USA ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
ASIN: 0195062671 |
Book Description
This new, comprehensive textbook for upper-division undergraduate and graduate students of meteorology presents for the first time information that is now considered essential in modern weather forecasting. Based on a successful series of courses taught by the author at the University of Oklahoma, the text carefully examines the foundations of synoptic meteorology, from the analysis of scalar fields to atmospheric kinematics, dynamics, and thermodynamics. Newer topics such as Q-vectors, and modern observing systems such as Doppler radar are discussed, and several detailed figures and many helpful problems are included. This timely work emphasizes both physical understanding and mathematical analysis, and clearly explains observations in light of current theory. It will be a valuable reference for weather forecasters and researchers as well as students.Customer Reviews:

Classical Potential Theory and Its Probabilistic Counterpart (Classics in Mathematics)
Joseph L. Doob Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
ASIN: 3540412069 |
Book Description
From the reviews: "This huge book written in several years by one of the few mathematicians able to do it, appears as a precise and impressive study (not very easy to read) of this bothsided question that replaces, in a coherent way, without being encyclopaedic, a large library of books and papers scattered without a uniform language. Instead of summarizing the author gives his own way of exposition with original complements. This requires no preliminary knowledge. ...The purpose which the author explains in his introduction, i.e. a deep probabilistic interpretation of potential theory and a link between two great theories, appears fulfilled in a masterly manner".M. Brelot in Metrika (1986)

Classical Potential Theory (Springer Monographs in Mathematics)
David H. Armitage , and Stephen J. Gardiner Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 1852336188 |
Book Description
From its origins in Newtonian physics, potential theory has developed into a major field of mathematical research. This book provides a comprehensive treatment of classical potential theory: it covers harmonic and subharmonic functions, maximum principles, polynomial expansions, Green functions, potentials and capacity, the Dirichlet problem and boundary integral representations. The first six chapters deal concretely with the basic theory, and include exercises. The final three chapters are more advanced and treat topological ideas specifically created for potential theory, such as the fine topology, the Martin boundary and minimal thinness.

Classical and Quantum Mechanics of Noncentral Potentials: A Survey of Two-Dimensional Systems
Radhey Shyam Kaushal Manufacturer: Springer-Verlag Telos ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 354064198X |
Book Description
Non-central forces have a wide variety of applications in classical and quantum mechanics as demonstrated in this book. The author emphasizes the study of time-dependent potentials, predominantly in two dimensions, without neglecting the quite well understood time-independent case. The construction of invariants in the classical case and the study of solutions to Schrödinger's equation, as well as a detailed presentation of various mathematical techniques are of main concern to the author. The book addresses theoretical physicists and mathematicians, but it will also be useful for electrical and mechanical engineers.
