Book Description
Learning is much more than reading a textbook. That's why the 10th edition of Inquiry into Life is integrated closely with an Online Learning Center where students and professors alike will benefit. The OLC provides animations, virtual labs, online quizzing, Power Point lecture outlines, and other tools that will help make teaching a little easier and learning a lot more fun.
Inquiry into Life covers the whole field of basic biology, and emphasizes the application of this knowledge to human concerns. Along with this approach, concepts and principles are stressed, rather than detailed, high-level scientific data and terminology.

Book Description
Scanning Tunneling Microscopy II, like its predecessor, presents detailed and comprehensive accounts of the basic principles and the broad range of applications of STM and related scanning probe techniques. The applications discussed in this volume come predominantly from the fields of electrochemistry and biology. In contrast to those in STM I, these studies may be performed in air and in liquids. The extensions of the basic technique to map other interactions are described in chapters on scanning force microscopy, magnetic force microscopy, and scanning near-field optical microscopy, together with a survey of other related techniques. Also discussed here is the use of a scanning proximal probe for surface modification. Together, the two volumes give a comprehensive account of experimental aspects of STM and provide essential reading and reference material. In this second edition the text has been updated and new methods are discussed.

Book Description
Arthur Nersesian's underground literary treasure is an unforgettable slice of gritty New York City life...and the darkly hilarious odyssey of an anonymous slacker. He's a perennial couch-surfer, an aspiring writer searching for himself in spite of himself, and he's just trying to survive. But life has other things in store for the fuck-up. From being dumped by his girlfriend to getting fired for asking for a raise, from falling into a robbery to posing as a gay man to keep his job at a porno theater, the fuck-up's tragi-comedy is perfectly realized by Arthur Nersesian, who manages to create humor and suspense out of urban desperation. "Read it and howl," says Bruce Benderson (author of User), "and be glad it didn't happen to you."
Customer Reviews:
Talented writer but story falls apart before the end.......2007-09-17
Arthur Nersesian is truly a gifted writer. Only the power of his words kept me reading this book until the last page, long after the story itself ceased to be interesting. Like a 3 hour blockbuster movie that's about sixty minutes too long, this book would have been a five-star, had the story been more compact.
It's worth reading this simply for the quality of Neresian's talents as a writer. The main character is compelling and easy to sympathize with, even though he's a slacker who left college just short of graduation, working for minimum-wage in dead-end jobs and sleeping on his best friend's couch. The dialogue is fast and lean, and the vivid descriptions of life in New York make the reader feel as if he was actually there. I look forward to reading Neresian's other work.
Ambled Along.......2006-10-10
I read this book as its author was recommended to those who like Chuck Palahniuk. While I found the book reasonably entertaining, it didn't grab me like Chuck does.
It definately felt a little dated. So if you are nostalgic for the late 70's early 80's and thats something you relate to then by all means grab this book, however if you are looking for something more in line with Chucks work check out Craig Clevenger.
Cover to cover read!.......2006-06-09
I bought this book while at the school bookstore picking up my coursebooks last fall. It seemed interesting, so I bought it and put it on my shelf. A few weeks into the semester I was tired of reading scholarly texts and I decided to give it a read.
Nersesian demonstrates amazing prose writing, as well as a visual imagery that rivals that of authors like J.K. Rowling or JRR Tolkien. It was a very pleasant read and the author set an easily relatable tone where one can sympathize with the plight of the protagonist.
I would recommend this book highly for the fact that it was one of the only books I have read in recent years that I could not put down.
Taken by surprise.......2006-02-13
I bougth the book I tried hard to read it, but put it down because I just couldn't get into. Months go by and then I decided to pick up the book and try reading it again and when I did, I just couldn't put it down! I just had to know what was going to happen to him next. I have now recommended this book to so many other people. Arthur Nersesian kepts me wraped in this book from first page to last, and i am glad I picked it back up to read.
Puts Your Life Into Perspective.......2006-02-07
Admittedly, it was the title that caught my attention while I was perusing through Barnes & Noble one day. But when I opened it up and started reading the first paragraph, I was completely entranced and could not put it down. When I bought it, i had already read it over 4 times(bought new- I had bought it from a used bookstore and then gave it to a friend) and since then I carry it with me. It's an alaramingly amusing bittersweet story that takes the reader on a tour of the East Side of NYC, and rockets at a hundred miles a minute. For anyone who thinks they're having a bad day, read this book!!!
Book Description
A shocking work rife with erotic tension, spanning four centuries and featuring a cast of thousands.
One day in the year 1956, Thomas Beckett, part time librarian at Columbia Univeristy, finds in his mailbox an anonymously posted photograph depicting J. Edgar Hoover, Director of the FBI, in an extremely compromised position. Beckett does what any part time librarian would: blackmails his way into a job with the Bureau hunting down Nazis.
Hijinks ensue.

one of my favorites.......2006-04-13
people who don't like this should be shot, i can't think of a better way to promote thining the herd.
Unbelievably refreshing. .......2006-01-27
This is not by any means your standard for-the-masses, formulaically generated, overedited, for-the-airplane-lavatory paperback. Neither is it your standard alternativesy beret-wearing college post-constructionist crap.
Many of the events unfolded in an analeptically humorous manner. At the same time, my neurons were kept tingling as they were subjected the educational value of fresh and frankly, brilliant historical perspectives which were presented in a very engaging manner.
I had no choice but to put all my responsibilities off until I finished the book. I will not rest until everyone I relate to in any favorable manner has read this.
A collicky baby wipes dirt off his shoulder.......2006-01-16
How should I say this? This novel, the title of which I suspect can not be put inside the body of a review, is a fantastic trip through the dark histories, private and public, of these Great United States. Being a Bangladeshi national, I often find it hard to connect to historical inquiries of my adoptive country, America, but Mr. Ichigawa has, in his bawdily titled text, constructed an implausible narrative-- the librarian and his photograph-- that mirrors the basic implausibility of the American Dream.
The Dream, of course, is what the protagonist lives: he travels, he loves, he works, he gets rich; Ichigawa links all of this to an underbelly of governmental corruption. Amongst Beckett's travels are New York, Rhode Island, Boston, and the Metro Detroit area wherein he encounters a sort of Who's Who of marginal 1950s outsider culture: members of the American Nazi Party, depraved sexual adherents of Wilhelm Reich, and strangely familiar Black Magicians practicing the ritual of Abra-Melin the Mage. These encounters, and their intense connection and meditation on the past, bring forth, violently, seemingly disconnected chapters which can best be called "historical eruptions." In a lesser writer's hands these would be mere dilettantism, but Ichigawa is able to make them CONNECT and make them MATTER to the main narrative. The past informs the present and the future informs the past. By my reckoning this book takes place in the following eras: Colonial, late-Victorian, Inter-War, McCarthy, and finally, the Reagan Years.
All of this sounds very high minded-- and indeed it is-- but I hope this doesn't make the book come across as boring. In fact it is one of the single funniest works I have ever come across-- and I am devotee of THE GINGER MAN, Mr. P.G. Wodehouse, and the Flashman novels (amongst others). Perhaps the funniest note of the book-- which sounds in the most unlikely corridors and chasms, like the tolling of a bell-- is Mr. Ichigawa's unusal fixation on Henry Ford, who functions as a grotesque Punch, embodying all the ugliest aspects of the American character.
In short, I highly recommend this book for all; it will teach you more about America than any dry work of history ever could.
this is one stupid book, bro..........2006-01-04
i got this from my cousin as a xmas present who got it for me cos of the title... he knows im into the sick stuff, lol... any way, its so stupid and not funny even though the writer trying so hard too be ... may be he thought ppl care about hover but its the distant past, let it go, lol... im eighten and why should I care... then the worst part is that in between the "funny stuff" the author keeps putting in a bunch of "historical" stuff about Henry Ford and how much he hates cars... this was totally unbeleivable and a real dumb storey... lol... save you're money for GOOD fantasy like phillip pulman's HIS DARK MATTERS... this is the first review i ever wrote but i hate this so much that I had too do it
Hijinx do indeed Ensue.......2005-12-29
Ah, what a difference a photograph can make in the life of a meager librarian. At least when that photograph shows the head of the FBI performing an act he'd rather not let world know he's involved in.
And so begins Thomas Beckett's romp through American esoterica as he attempts to hunt down Nazis. Of course, the romp isn't linear, and we are treated to digressions about colonial Rhode Island, Howard Phillips Lovecraft, the suburbs of Detroit Michigan and the latter's favorite son, Henry Ford.

Product Description
Today more than ever, right-wing religion is a growing problem: it's destroying families, relationships, contemporary politics, and affects us all on a daily basis. We commonly respond with frustration, disappointment, and anger.
In this two-part audio presentation, Professor Robert N. Minor provides an eye-opening diagnosis into how religion functions as an addiction in the lives of milliions of people.
Just like any other addiction, religious addiction can only exist when the addict is in denial, and when others are enabling the addict. This presentation provides practical strategies for those of us who want to make sure we are not enabling religious addiction. (Two presentations on one audio CD.)
Customer Reviews:
Eye-opening and hard-hitting.......2006-05-16
This CD will probably anger right-wing religious addicts. Addicts who are in denial -- unless they are in recovery -- don't like someone pointing out to them that they're addicted. But it is an eye-opening analysis for people who understand addictions and wonder what's wrong with the Christian right-wing. Explaining why they don't listen, are unable to understand how they hurt people, and why they are so obsessed with political victories, Dr. Minor has uncovered the keys to dealing with these people. The advice is very practical. I can't wait for his book on the subject this fall.
