Volume 6 of the series Fundamentals of Medical Cell Biology consists of three parts: the first contains a series of chapters dealing with the field of neurobiology. The second part is concerned with thermobiology. This is followed by a chapter on cultured cells. Sea Level Rise, History and Consequences includes a special emphasis on the evidence for historical sea level change; case studies are used to demonstrate the resulting consequences. A CD-ROM is included which contain tide gauge data and trends of relative sea level from the Permanent Service for Mean Sea Level. The material on the CD-ROM is either in the form of text files, or web sites that can be opened by widely available web-browsers.
Sea level is expected to rise as much as 60-100 centimeters over the next century due to greenhouse-induced global warming -- or at least that is what the some scientists predict. However, the concept of sea level is extremely complex, which makes the prediction of sea level rise anything but certain. This book will be a comprehensive review of the subject using the data themselves (on CD-ROM) to illustrate the principles involved, rather than detailed mathematical treatments. Among the topics covered are spontaneous symmetry breaking, grand unified theories, supersymmetry, and supergravity. the book starts with a quick review of elementary particle theory and continues with a discussion of composite quarks, leptons, Higgs bosons, and CP violation; it concludes with consideration of supersymmetric unification schemes, in which bosons and leptons are considered in some sense equivalent.||The third edition has been completely revised and brought up to date, particularly by including discussions of the many experimental developments in recent years.

This text provides detailed outlines of the major contributions to the field of elementary particle physics. The reader is pointed to the appropriate research papers to fill in the gaps. This text is built for beginning researchers who wish to gain command of the fundamental principles behind the theory and phenomenology of particle physics and serves also as a reference for senior researchers. This text therefore makes a very important contribution to the field of high energy physics.

The articles in this book are written versions of talks presented at a conference organized by the TMR network in Corfu. The main theme of the conference was the interconnection between string theory and gauge theory. I read this book a couple of years ago, and I laughed A LOT because I related to much to it. I recommended it to one of my best friends, who is exactly like the protagonist.
Bottom line, I'm only going to say that it was an entertaining read that felt like "hey, I'm not the only one!" and I appreciated it.
As a reader I seek to either get lost in other worlds or see mine reflected in it. It was the second case with this one!
If you are a mother, if you work, if you have a husband (or even if you don't), if you feel like you're juggling it all and one of the balls will eventually drop, just read this book!

This is not a book to put down lightly. It is one to have the pages stripped out and line the bottom of one's parakeet cage. This was one of the worst books I've ever read. I bought it to read the genera of I guess soap opera literature. I will not judge another woman on anything she does, but Kate is neurotic and married to a beta man and she seems to sail with no rudder. A scene between her mother and a judge near the end is supposed to impress us as some empowering motherhood thing, but in the US, you'd get booted out of court over it and a stiff fine. I couldn't imagine her saying that to one of the terrifying white wigged judges in England.
Poor character development and a bad reflection on women everywhere. This seems to have been put out by someone against motherhood and working.
Entertaining but untypical portrait of working mums.......2007-07-05
This was fun chick lit but the ultimate message it imparts is that women must have their own business to hope for work/life balance. The truth is that a high-powered corporate job is often incompatible with being a hands-on mom. The only real "aha" for Kate was discovering that but then she went with an "all or nothing" solution and ignored the financial realities she'd talked about in the past. I didn't really like Kate as a character and a person. She was not true to herself, her family or her marriage. She lacked integrity and I wasn't sure she achieved it, even at the end.

I was expecting a totally different book, to be quite honest. I wasn't expecting a mother who "juggled" work and housework and all with help and plenty of money. She has a nanny and a housecleaner! Granted, her housecleaner for some reason can't clean hardly anything beyond what's directly in front of her, but she can still afford help nonetheless. And the ending? I thought it defeated the entire purpose of the book.
Honestly, I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone. Thank goodness I borrowed it and didn't waste my money on it.

I don't how the book ended up in my house but I took it on vacation and loved it! At first I was a little confused by the terminology in the book before I realized it is based in London. Although to me Kate got a little annoying with the kids and hubby, and I for entertainments sake wish her relationship with Abelhammer could have gone a teensy bit futher. I really enjoyed the book.
