Microtubule Proteins
Jesus Avila Manufacturer: CRC ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0849355273 |
Book Description
This work focuses on the structural and functional description of the microtubule proteins. The objective of the authors is to establish a relationship between the structure of microtubule proteins and the functions in which these polymers are involved. This book covers topics which have been treated only in a preliminary manner in previous works, such as microtubule dynamics and microtubule poisons. Microtubules display a variety of cellular roles and are vital for the separation and correct distribution of chromosomes during cell division. They also play an important role in morphogenesis, intracellular transport, secretion, and motility. Microtubule Proteins is a concise, easy-to-read text which is particularly of interest to cell biologists, chemists, neurochemists, and graduate students interested in cell biology.

Microtubule Protocols (Methods in Molecular Medicine)
Manufacturer: Humana Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 1588296423 |
Book Description
Microtubules are essential components of the cytoskeleton, and play critical roles in a variety of cell processes, including cell shaping, intracellular tracking, cell division, and cell migration. Microtubule Protocols presents a comprehensive collection of essential and up-to-date methods for studying both the biology of microtubules and the mechanisms of action of microtubule-interacting drugs. The straightforward presentation of readily reproducible protocols is a hallmark of the Methods in Molecular Medicine™ series, and is evident in this volume. Methods presented range from the purification and characterization of microtubule proteins, analysis of post-translational modifications of tubulin, and determination of microtubule structure, to the visualization of microtubule and spindle behavior, measurement of microtubule dynamics, and examination of microtubule-mediated cellular processes. Both basic scientists and clinical researchers will benefit from this collection of state-of-the-art protocols for microtubule research.

The Quantum Theory of Fields, Vol. 1: Foundations
Steven Weinberg Manufacturer: Cambridge University Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
ASIN: 0521550017 |
Book Description
In The Quantum Theory of Fields, Nobel Laureate Steven Weinberg combines his exceptional physical insight with his gift for clear exposition to provide a self-contained, comprehensive, and up-to-date introduction to quantum field theory. This is a two-volume work. Volume I introduces the foundations of quantum field theory. The development is fresh and logical throughout, with each step carefully motivated by what has gone before, and emphasizing the reasons why such a theory should describe nature. After a brief historical outline, the book begins anew with the principles about which we are most certain, relativity and quantum mechanics, and the properties of particles that follow from these principles. Quantum field theory emerges from this as a natural consequence. The author presents the classic calculations of quantum electrodynamics in a thoroughly modern way, showing the use of path integrals and dimensional regularization. His account of renormalization theory reflects the changes in our view of quantum field theory since the advent of effective field theories. The book's scope extends beyond quantum electrodynamics to elementary particle physics, and nuclear physics. It contains much original material, and is peppered with examples and insights drawn from the author's experience as a leader of elementary particle research. Problems are included at the end of each chapter. This work will be an invaluable reference for all physicists and mathematicians who use quantum field theory, and it is also appropriate as a textbook for graduate students in this area.Customer Reviews:

Quantum Mechanics 1: Foundations (Oxford Chemistry Primers, 48)
N. J. B. Green Manufacturer: Oxford University Press, USA ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
ASIN: 0198557612 |
Book Description
Quantum mechanics is of central importance in chemistry. To understand matter and its chemical transformations it is necessary to take a microscopic view connecting experimental observation to the properties of constituent molecules. However, at this microscopic level atoms and sub- atomic particles do not obey the classical laws of mechanics that pertain to the everyday macroscopic world. They obey the laws of quantum mechanics. The aim of this book is to explain the fundamentals of quantum mechanics from the point of view of chemistry; to describe areas of chemistry where quantum mechanics is most important; and to show how quantum mechanics is applied to chemical problems. To this end, the book is divided into two parts: the first deals with the foundations of quantum mechanics (concentrating on exactly soluble problems and the reduction of complicated problems to simple foundations) and the second is a tool kit for applying quantum mechanics to chemical problems (thus concentrating on approximate methods). Although advanced mathematics has been kept to a minimum, the nature of the subject means a certain amount of mathematics is necessary and it is assumed the reader is familiar with a typical first year mathematics course. Quantum Mechanics is an intermediate level text aimed at second and third year undergraduates.
