Book Description
Pseudomonas comprises three volumes covering the biology of pseudomonads in a wide context, including the niches they inhabit, the taxonomic relations among members of this group, the molecular biology of gene expression in different niches and under different environmental conditions, the analysis of virulence traits in plants, animals and human pathogens as well as the determinants that make some strains useful for biotechnological applications and promotion of plant growth.
There has been growing interest in pseudomonads and a particular urge to understand the biology underlying the complex metabolism of these ubiquitous microbes. These bacteria are capable of colonizing a wide range of niches, including the soil, the plant rhizosphere and phylosphere, and animal tissues; more recently they have attracted attention because of their capacity to form biofilms, a characteristic with potentially important medical and environmental implications.
The three volumes cover the following topics:
- Taxonomy,
- Genomics,
- Life styles,
- Cell Architecture,
- Virulence,
- Regulation,
- Macromolecules,
- Alternative Respiratory Substrates,
- Catabolism and Biotransformations.
Pseudomonas will be of use to all researchers working on these bacteria, particularly those studying microbiology, plant crops, pathogenesis, and chemical engineering. Advanced students in biology, medicine and agronomy will also find these three volumes a valuable reference during their studies.
Book Description
Field Quantization is a thorough introduction to the physical ideas and techniques of this subject, starting from an elementary level. The initial chapters deal with the quantum mechanics of systems having many degrees of freedom and with classical Lagrangian field theory. Subsequently, both the traditional method of canonical quantization and the modern approach using path integrals are studied. The material is presented in considerable detail and accompanied by a large number of worked examples and exercises.

A QFT text jewel !!!!.......2007-08-01
Thorough study of this book is a guaranteed ticket to QFT expertise !
The following excellent books are in addition highly recommended:
1. Mandl and Shaw's - Great intro to QFT
2. The Greiner Books - Exhaustively Comprehensive and Detailed
3. Dr. Zee's - QFT in a Nutshell - Most enthusiastic and didactic
4. Dr. Kaku's - vey clear and insightful. Additional bonus :Intro to Relativistic Strings - I particularly enjoy the pot shot he takes at the co-discoverer (who's name I dare not mention out loud) of the Beta Function (strong ? no, weak? no, gravitational? maybe) "tachyon" interaction formula.
5. Prof Weinberg's Magnificent Three Volume Set - The QFT Bible !
a very thorough introduction.......2005-09-21
There are so many different QFT text books, but this one is of special value:(1) It is a really thorough work, e.g., symmetry principles, path integral, QED, even scalar qed are discussed in detail here! (2) The details are all included, so you will not find something like "it easily follows from..". (3)It introduces everything in a good order. For example, it treats non-relativistic Schrodinger field first before going to the relativistic theories. It has shown that non-relativistic fields permit both boson and fermion rules. From this you can easily see how quantization rules are related to relativity. I am sure you can learn some solid QFT from this book. Of course, I recommend this book along with the standard reference by Peskin-Schroeder, and the lively book by Zee.
Great Introduction.......2001-07-12
This book starts with classical field theory and moves on to some simple, but very relevent examples of nonrelativistic field quantization. Greiner works through all important relativistic system of free particles before a spectactular introduction to Feynman rules via quantum electrodynamics as the primer. The book finishes with a nice introduction to path-integral quantization. This book covers mathematical detail of relativistic field theory in a simple way, making it an excellent introductory text.
Detailed guide to QFT.......2000-03-27
The book's focus is on carefully explaining what quantum field theory is. Starting from classical field theories, ie. the harmonic chain, Greiner goes on to discuss 2nd quantization for spin 0, 1/2, and spin 1 fields. The results are then applied to derive the perturbation expansion for interacting fields. The last sections on quantization with path integrals is also well written, and contains more details than eg. Sakurai. Throughout, many (sometimes tedious, but) instructive examples are presented that lots of other authors just assume to be understood already.

Book Description
This monograph deals with the geometrical and topological aspects associated with the quantization procedure, and it is shown how these features are manifested in anomaly and Berry Phase. This book is unique in its emphasis on the topological aspects of a fermion which arise as a consequence of the quantization procedure. Also, an overview of quantization procedures is presented, tracing the equivalence of these methods by noting that the gauge field plays a significant role in all these procedures, as it contains the ingredients of topological features.
Audience: This book will be of value to research workers and specialists in mathematical physics, quantum mechanics, quantum field theory, particle physics and differential geometry.

Book Description
This text describes novel treatments of quantum problems using enhanced quantization procedures, generally involving extended correspondence rules for the association of a classical and a quantum theory. Beginning with a review of classical mechanics, the book goes on to detail Hilbert space, quantum mechanics, and scalar quantum field theory. Later chapters further develop analytical skills, study a special class of models, and present a discussion of continuous and discontinuous perturbations. The final chapter offers a brief summary, concluding with a conjecture regarding interacting covariant scalar quantum field theories. Throughout, symmetry is used as a tool to help develop solutions for simple and complex problems alike. Challenging exercises and detailed references are included.
Book Description
Comprehensive, clearly presented work considers such subjects as quantization of the electron-positron field, response to an external field, quantization of free field, quantum electrodynamics, interacting fields, Heisenberg representation, the S-matrix, and Feynman's approach to quantum electrodynamics. An excellent resource for individuals as well as libraries and other institutions.

A master teaches the basics of quantum field theory.......2002-01-15
These are notes taken from the Pauli lectures on field quantization at Zurich, where he taught for many years. They are magnificent in their clarity and succint as only Pauli could be. Basically they explain how to quantize the basic free fields and introduce in a beautiful way the Dyson method of introducing (perturbative) interactions, renormalization comprised. Fine points, like the Gupta-Bleuler method, get a critical and clear treatment. The language is surprisingly modern, with emphasis in vacuum expectation values, kernels, etc. The last chapter treats the Feynman method of path integrals. This must have been one of the very first published reviews of this method: it is done, of course, quite originally. One should read every scrap of paper left by Pauli, a deep and original thinker who expressed himself with unsurpassed clarity, let alone this lovingly produced book.

Book Description
This graduate level text describes in a unified fashion the statistical mechanics of random walks, random surfaces and random higher dimensional manifolds with an emphasis on the geometrical aspects of the theory and applications to the quantization of strings, gravity and topological field theory. With chapters on random walks, random surfaces, two-and higher-dimensional quantum gravity, topological quantum field theories and Monte Carlo simulations of random geometries, the text provides a self-contained account of quantum geometry from a statistical field theory point of view. The approach uses discrete approximations and develops analytical and numerical tools. Continuum physics is recovered through scaling limits at phase transition points and the relation to conformal quantum field theories coupled to quantum gravity is described. The most important numerical work is covered, but the main aim is to develop mathematically precise results that have wide applications. Many diagrams and references are included.

Book Description
This volume reflects the growing collaboration between mathematicians and theoretical physicists to treat the foundations of quantum field theory using the mathematical tools of q-deformed algebras and noncommutative differential geometry. A particular challenge is posed by gravity, which probably necessitates extension of these methods to geometries with minimum length and therefore quantization of space. This volume builds on the lectures and talks that have been given at a recent meeting on "Quantum Field Theory and Noncommutative Geometry." A considerable effort has been invested in making the contributions accessible to a wider community of readers - so this volume will not only benefit researchers in the field but also postgraduate students and scientists from related areas wishing to become better acquainted with this field.

Book Description
"In the last two decades two new ideas were introduced into mathematical physics. The first of these is the notion of twistor geometry and the other that of supersymmetry. In this book by Y.I. Manin we find a beautiful blend of developments stemming from these two ideas written by a master expositor who uses the language of algebraic geometry to synthesize and unify the fundamental ideas involves." From a review of the Russian edition#1
The exposition is geometrized and unified. Applications to the solution of nonlinear differential equations of quantum field theory are given, in particular to the theory of instantons. The second part of the book contains a mathematical introduction to superalgebra and supergeometry which can be read independently and used by students in algebra and geometry. For the first time in the mathematical literature an introduction to the geometry of supergravity is given. Methods of complex geometry, in particular sheaf cohomology, are used throughout. Since the newest quantum field theory, dealing with (super)unification schemes and (super)strings uses more and more of complex geometry, this book may serve to introduce both physicists and mathematicians to this quickly expanding domain.

Book Description
In his introduction to this edition of Coleridge's Marginalia, the late George Whalley wrote, "There is no body of marginalia--in English, or perhaps in any other language--comparable with Coleridge's in range and variety and in the sensitiveness, scope, and depth of his reaction to what he was reading." The Princeton edition of the Marginalia, of which this is the fifth volume, will bring together over eight thousand notes, many never before printed, varying from a single word to substantial essays. In alphabetical order of authors, the notes are presented literatim from the original manuscripts whenever the annotated volumes can be found. Each note is preceded by the passage of the original text that appears to have provoked Coleridge's comment. Texts in foreign languages are followed by translations.
The present volume comprises annotations on more than sixty books (from Sherlock to "Unidentified"), including well-known works by Sir Philip Sidney, Southey, Spinoza, Swift, and Tennyson. There are extensive notes on texts by Heinrich Steffens, Emanuel Swedenborg, and Jeremy Taylor; on two histories of philosophy by Thomas Stanley and W. G. Tennemann; and also on the writings of St. Teresa of Avila. The subjects addressed range from literature and philosophy through religion, politics, history, and biography, to travel-writing and science.
