ASIN: 1852336986 |
Book Description
Lasers now play a major part in the processing of the disparate materials used in engineering and manufacturing. The range of procedures in which they are involved is ever increasing. With this growing prominence comes a need for clear and instructive textbooks to teach the next generation of laser users. The informal style of Laser Material Processing (3rd Edition) will guide you smoothly from the basics of laser physics to the detailed treatment of all the major materials processing techniques for which lasers are now essential.
- Helps you to understand how the laser works and to decide which laser is best for your purposes
- New chapters on bending and cleaning reflect the changes in the field since the last edition completing the range of practical knowledge about the processes possible with lasers already familiar to users of this well-known text.
- Provides a firm grounding in the safety aspects of laser use.
- Professor Steen's lively presentation is supported by a number of original cartoons by Patrick Wright and Noel Ford which will bring a smile to your face and ease the learning process.
Laser Material Processing (3rd Edition) will be of use as university or industrial course material for senior undergraduate, graduate and non-degree technical training in optoelectronics, laser processing and advanced manufacturing. Practising engineers and technicians in these areas will also find the book an authoritative source of information on the rapidly expanding use of industrial lasers in material processing.
"Written in a style that includes both technical detail and humor, Bill Steen's book on laser material processing is the standard by which others are judged. It is the text in my graduate-level course on the subject." C.E. Albright, The Ohio State University
"I have used two previous editions for my class. The third edition has included some of the more recent applications. It is easy to read and explanations are lucid. I expect it will receive wide acceptance in class rooms world wide." J. Mazumder, University of Michigan
"It is the great merit of this book to offer a compact survey on laser material processing. A useful and fascinating book, pleasant to read with many useful figures and examples of industrial applications. It is a textbook for advanced students in this field, but also a reference book for engineers." H. Weber, Technische Universität Berlin
Customer Reviews:
Very Good.......2002-11-15
Basic but very informative.......2000-09-16
Best book on laser material processing, with nice pictures.......1997-06-04
Every chapter ends with a funny cartoon on something to do with the subject of that chapter. This comes in handy for presentations or other intermezzos.
But this cannot be called a shallow book, some real tough formulas can be found here, they are explained so well though, you can really understand them after only reading them twice or so.
Actually if you want to publish stuff in this field you might consider using this book as a reference. It is that good.

Analysis of Alternatives: Multivariate Considerations
Manufacturer: Storming Media ProductGroup: Book Binding: Spiral-bound ASIN: 142356300X |
Product Description
This is a AIR FORCE INST OF TECH WRIGHT-PATTERSONAFB OH SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A193243. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: The Aeronautical System Center (AS C) is developing a Simulation and Analysis Facility (SIMAF) that will link models, simulations, hardware-in-the- loop, and system-rn- the-loop resources to create a robust virtual environment supporting assessment of alternate systems in the defense acquisition process. ENS is assisting ASC with scenario development, experimental design, and battleroom visualization efforts for a SIMAF capability demonstration. This thesis uses multivariate analysis and visualization tools to develop an approach for reducing the dimensionality of multiple campaign level measures of effectiveness for a notional Analysis of Alternatives (AoA) study. Additionally, the thesis advances an AoA visualization paradigm for the SIMAF capability demonstration. The results of this study suggest that multivariate data reduction techniques and user interactive visualization of multivariate analysis results can be employed to combine multiple MOEs into a reduced set of interpretable factors capturing the operational effectiveness performance of competing acquisition alternatives. The thesis research also successfully demonstrated a visual data mining approach applied to the visualization of campaign level analysis results and the cost/effectiveness integration of an AoA effort.
