Metal Sites in Proteins and Models: Redox Centres (Springer Desktop Editions in Chemistry)
Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 3540655565 |
Book Description
Biological chemistry is a major frontier of inorganic chemistry. The three special volumes of Structure and Bonding devoted to Metal Sites in Proteins and Models address the questions: How unusual ("entatic") are metal sites in metalloproteins and metalloenzymes compared to those in small coordination complexes? And if they are special, how do polypeptide chains and co-factors control this? The chapters deal with iron, with metal centres acting as Lewis acids, metals in phosphate enzymes, with vanadium, and with the wide variety of transition metal ions which act as redox centres. They illustrate in particular how the combined armoury of genetics and structure determination at the molecular level are providing unprecedented new tools for molecular enginee

Some Modern Methods of Organic Synthesis (Cambridge Texts in Chemistry and Biochemistry)
W. Carruthers Manufacturer: Cambridge University Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
ASIN: 0521311179 |
Book Description
The third edition of this well-known textbook discusses some modern methods used in organic synthesis, and aims to show the value and scope of these methods and how they are used in the synthesis of complex molecules. The general plan of the book follows that of the second edition, but the opportunity has been taken to bring the book up to date and to take account of advances in knowledge and of new reactions which have come into use since publication of the earlier editions. Particular emphasis is placed on highly stereoselective organic chemistry, including stereoselective alkylations, aldol reactions, oxidations, epoxidations and reductions. New methods for the stereoselective formation of carbon-carbon double bonds, and modern application reactions are also fully considered. The book will be of use to students of chemistry and biochemistry at graduate and senior undergraduate level. It will also interest practising scientists in industry and research establishments who wish to familiarise themselves with modern synthetic methods.Download Description

Modern Phosphonate Chemistry
Philippe Savignac , and Bogdan Iorga Manufacturer: CRC ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0849310997 |
Book Description
The vast literature devoted to phosphonate chemistry reflects an exciting field full of opportunities for research and development. As the field continues to advance, however, the time has come to consolidate the current body of knowledge into a concise, effective guide for the design and practice of phosphonate chemistry. Modern Phosphonate Chemistry is a unique, up-to-date reference that summarizes the role of phosphonates in traditional and modern organic synthesis. In eight chapters, each devoted to a particular class of phosphonates, it details the relevant synthesis methods, chemistry, and properties or applications relevant to the corresponding reagent. The authors include 600 reaction schemes that provide practical guidance and more than 4600 references that offer a convenient gateway to the veritable mountain of published research. It is now clear that functionalized phosphonates have a significant and growing role in organic synthesis as precursors of elaborated organic compounds, for the synthesis of complex, biologically important phosphonates, and in the synthesis of aminophosphonic acids and derivatives. Modern Phosphonate Chemistry is your first, and at present, only complete and practical resource focused exclusively on this dynamic field.

ASIN: 0817637117 |
Book Description
This volume is designed as a textbook for an introductory course on wavelet analysis and time-frequency analysis aimed at graduate students or advanced undergraduates in science and engineering. It can also be used as a self-study or reference book by practicing researchers in signal analysis and related areas. Since the expected audience is not presumed to have a high level of mathematical background, much of the needed analytical machinery is developed from the beginning. The only prerequisites for the first eight chapters are matrix theory, Fourier series, and Fourier integral transforms. Each of these chapters ends with a set of straightforward exercises designed to drive home the concepts just covered, and the many graphics should further facilitate absorption.
Customer Reviews:
Very thorough treatment, but *not* a beginner's text........2003-07-19
A clear introduction to the notation and theory of wavelets.......2003-04-14
For me the value in this book is that it provides a clear
introduction to the notation and theory behind wavelets. This
book provides the tools you need to understand the wavelet
literature better. If you are a software engineer searching
for a quick guide to wavelet algorithms, this book may disappoint.
Reader friendly........2002-07-10
Good theory but lacking applications.......2000-02-04
Outstanding! Written for broad audience of potential users!.......1999-03-17

Proust and Signs: The Complete Text (Theory Out of Bounds)
Gilles Deleuze Manufacturer: University of Minnesota Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
ASIN: 081663257X |
Book Description
In a remarkable instance of literary and philosophical interpretation, the incomparable Gilles Deleuze reads Marcel Proust's work as a narrative of an apprenticeship-more precisely, the apprenticeship of a man of letters. Considering the search to be one directed by an experience of signs, in which the protagonist learns to interpret and decode the kinds and types of symbols that surround him, Deleuze conducts us on a corollary search-one that leads to a new understanding of the signs that constitute A la recherche du temps perdu. In Richard Howard's graceful translation, augmented with an essay that Deleuze added to a later French edition, Proust and Signs is the complete English version of this work. Admired as an imaginative and innovative study of Proust and as one of Deleuze's more accessible works, Proust and Signs stands as the writer's most sustained attempt to understand and explain the work of art.
Gilles Deleuze (1925-1995) was professor of philosophy at the University of Paris, Vincennes-St. Denis. With Félix Guattari, he coauthored Anti-Oedipus (1983) and A Thousand Plateaus (1987). Among his other works are Cinema 1 (1986), Cinema 2 (1989), Foucault (1988), The Fold (1992), Essays Critical and Clinical (1997), and Francis Bacon (2003), all published by the University of Minnesota Press.
Richard Howard has received the American Book Award and the PEN Translation Medal. He teaches in the School of the Arts at Columbia University.
