The Hidden Domain: Home of the Quantum Wave Function, Nature's Creative Source

Book Description
explains that our familiar three-dimensional world is a reality arising from an invisible ocean of unmeasurable energy which surrounds and permeates us. This conception as remarkable as it seems arises in a natural way from the ma thematical formalisms of modern quantum theory-a theory which is the most successful in scientific history. Physicists describe this nonphysical level of reality with the ma thematical entity called the wave function. Since this level is not accessible to us through conventional scientific equipment presents a detailed study of the wave function using images metaphors and analogies which are grounded in solid science. This underlying basic source of our normal sensory reality is thoroughly investigated and illustrated without the use of ma thematics. An intriguing learning adventure is thus created for the layperson as well as the scientist.Customer Reviews:

If you really want to understand Quantum Mechanics..........2000-09-05
It begins with Einstein's derivation of the Planck spectral distribution law; includes Ehrenfest's discussion of adiabatic invariants; Bohr's final presentation of the old Quantum Theory; several papers on the theory of dispersion; and on to the development of matrix mechanics by Heisenberg, Born and Jordan; and Dirac's reformulation.
It does not cover Schroedinger's development of wave mechanics, nor the derivation of the Dirac equation for the relativistic electron, nor quantum field theory. However, the period covered was the most paradigm-shattering part of the development of QM.
Perhaps unfortunately, it is unlikely that the typical student of Physics will have the time to study this book. However, for those who really love Physics and want to understand it, this book is essential. With 17 major papers, it has enough material to occupy months of personal study.

An Intelligent User Interface to Support Air Force Weather Product Generation and Automated Metrics
Manufacturer: Storming Media ProductGroup: Book Binding: Spiral-bound ASIN: 142353591X |
Product Description
This is a AIR FORCE INST OF TECH WRIGHT-PATTERSONAFB OH report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A427083. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: Air Force pilots require dependable weather reports so they may avoid unsafe flying conditions. In order to better gauge the accuracy of its weather products, Air Force Weather has established the requirement for an Air Force- wide automated weather metrics program. Under the guidelines for this program, forecasts will automatically be compared to observed weather to determine their accuracy. Statistics will be collected in the hopes of determining forecast error trends that can be corrected through education and training. In order for the statistical data produced by such a program to draw reliable conclusions about forecast accuracy, however, the correct format of the raw forecasts and observations must be ensured before the reports are disseminated. Beyond a simple check for typographical errors, however, the system must also have weather domain knowledge to understand when the input data content does not fit the context of the report, even though it has been formatted properly. This thesis proposes the application of an intelligent user-interface "critic" advice system, to ensure not only correct product format and provide content quality control, but to collaborate with and advise the forecaster or observer during product generation, with the ultimate goal of producing more accurate weather products.

The Lights that Failed: European International History 1919-1933 (Oxford History of Modern Europe)
Zara Steiner Manufacturer: Oxford University Press, USA ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
ASIN: 0198221142 |
Book Description
The peace treaties represented an almost impossible attempt to solve the problems caused by a murderous world war. In The Lights that Failed: European International History 1919-1933, part of the Oxford History of Modern Europe series, Steiner challenges the common assumption that the Treaty of Versailles led to the opening of a second European war. In a radically original way, this book characterizes the 1920s not as a frustrated prelude to a second global conflict but as a fascinating decade in its own right, when politicians and diplomats strove to re-assemble a viable European order. Steiner examines the efforts that failed but also those which gave hope for future promise, many of which are usually underestimated, if not ignored. She shows that an equilibrium was achieved, attained between a partial American withdrawal from Europe and the self-imposed constraints which the Soviet system imposed on exporting revolution. The stabilization painfully achieved in Europe reached it fragile limits after 1925, even prior to the financial crises that engulfed the continent. The hinge years between the great crash of 1929 and Hitler's achievement of power in 1933 devastatingly altered the balance between nationalism and internationalism. This wide-ranging study helps us grasp the decisive stages in this process. In a second volume, The Triumph of the Night , Steiner will examine the immediate lead up to the Second World War and its early years.

Book Description
Dick Heldar is a war correspondent and an artist, well-known for the drawings he sends home to the London papers from wars in exotic places like Sudan. When he returns to London, he attempts to make a career for himself as a serious artist -- and re-encounters his childhood sweetheart, Maisie. The pair fall in love. And then he learns that a minor problem with his eyes is actually the onset of blindness, incurable -- the result of a head wound he took during the war. And as his vision fails, the light of everything around him -- his life, his hopes, his dreams -- fail with it. There are trerrible choies to be made -- between the love of the woman he treasures . . . and the love of the men who stood by him at the front. (Jacketless library hardcover)Download Description
Torpenhow was sprawling in a long chair with a small fox-terrier asleep on his chest, while Dick was preparing a canvas. A dais, a background, and a lay-figure were the only fixed objects in the place. They rose from a wreck of oddments that began with felt-covered water-bottles, belts, and regimental badges, and ended with a small bale of second-hand uniforms and a stand of mixed arms.Customer Reviews:
