Great reference for my gross anatomy class.......2003-06-27
I liked this book because it make anatomy much easier to retain because of the detailed pictures showing the structures of the body. I'm a visual learner and found this book to be very good in showing me the difference in location between various ligaments and bones etc. I also used the following which is also available on amazon:
Spinal Anatomy Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers
isbn: 0971999600
This study guide helped me with the type of questions encountered in on my medical gross anatomy tests in med school. I highly recommend both books
Book Description
With an extraordinary reputation for authority and accuracy, this landmark biology text continues to be an invaluable learning partner for students and teachers. The authors focus on the "big ideas" of biology: each chapter is organized around key concepts that build in a logical way, and are clearly explained and reinforced by the text discussion and illustration. The straightforward writing style, appropriate level of depth, and judiciously-selected coverage are other hallmarks. A comprehensive new supplements package includes a highly-interactive student learning CD-ROM. The Special Edition of The Biology Place allows students to explore animations, take quizzes, and access the most up-to-date biology resources on the web.

Well written and organized textbook.......2006-09-21
This was my textbook for Biology 101 & 102. This book was a pleasure to read. It is clearly written and not dry at all so it was easy to keep focus. Even in my upper level classes, I find myself referring back to it occasionally and am still impressed by it. An important point I would like to make is that, if you are using this as a course textbook, the CD is invaluable. The animated tutorials and chapter quizzes, (which are quite thorough), kept me one step ahead. That CD shaved hours off of my study time for each test.
Long, dense, and at first look tedious - but absolutely worth it........2006-06-24
This book was used in my AP Bio class, where my teacher's constant reminders to "read the book" usually went unnoticed. This isn't because Campbell's book is necessarily boring or difficult to understand; in fact, the situation is quite the opposite. Campbell delves into the concepts of biology with more than adequate depth and breadth for the subject, offering both the basics and the details necessary to survive AP Bio (and, from the way my AP Exam went, college freshman Bio, too).
The sad fact and only noticeable drawback, however, is this: all of this information is found in an alarmingly large, heavy book, which can be off-putting to even the most avid readers. (Campbell does have a shorter, lighter book that makes for an easier read, but the "baby Campbell" sacrifices the detail necessary for AP Bio in order to make the book less difficult to get through.) Even with the large amount of material found in Campbell's book, it's an interesting read that covers just about everything biology-related.
Conclusion: The detail involved in every chapter makes this book an ideal pick for an AP Bio class, save for the fact that lazier students just won't ever want to pick the thing up.
THOROUGH, ENCOMPASSING, WELL WRITTEN ..........2006-06-17
I found this book very thorough and well written. What made it so enjoyable is wasn't dry and boring; the colloquial style made it very readable, especially for lay people. I work in a related field - as a medical doctor - but, sad as it is, I sometimes like to read about it for fun! This book was the perfect blend: informative and straight forward yet also reasonably entertaining. Most important, it is accurate and truthful with a good sense of the latest cutting edge research.
Incredible.......2006-06-07
I was studying for the National Medical Assessment Test in my country and i used this book to review my biology. Note, however that my pre-med was a humanities degree and economics. So, I really needed to bone up on my biology. I was intimidated by the size of this book and was reluctant to purchase it but after reading so many reviews i relented.
And i was very happy i did so. I just couldn't put this book down. It was thick and the letters were so small but it was also accessible and comprehensive while providing in-depth information. Biology really comes to life with this book. Everything is put into context and ideas truly build up on one another. Unlike other biology books I've read, other branches of science (e.g. chemistry & physics) are introduced to show how all of science are indeed connected to facilitate a deeper understanding of science itself and not just biology. It even explained many ideas in organic chemistry more clearly and succintly than the intro to org chem book i used.
Some have commented that this book is too thick and i have to disagree. This is not a reference book (it could be a good one i think) but an introduction. As an introductory text it has to lay a solid foundation in understanding the basics innerworkings of biology and how all of it is connected to other sciences. This it does well. I have found that the book usually only uses one short paragraph to introduce one organ/organelle/cell/a step in a chemical cycle/chemical/etc. to describe it, what affects it, and its functions. I do not think the authors could've done any better. People who want a shorter text i think really want a reference book or a bio book that just lists down facts with little or no connections/explanations.
It's a good book for learning biology.......2006-04-28
I learn biology for 10yrs.Campbell's biology is the most I want to study when it's every new edition published.

Book Description
Principles of Psychobiology is a new Windows 95/98/NT software package developed for introductory students in Psychobiology, Neuroscience, Neurobiology, or Biology. The software is intended to serve as a supplement to any current introductory textbook in the allied neurosciences, and it effectively replaces standard printed study guides and/or neuroanatomy "coloring books". The software was developed by Phillip S. Lasiter, Ph.D., Professor of Psychobiology and Neuroscience at Florida Atlantic University. Topics presented in software modules include cell biology, electrical theory, resting membrane potentials, action potentials, membrane conduction, introductory anatomy of the human brain, neurochemistry, sensory transduction, vision, audition, somatosensation, olfaction, and taste. Principles of Psychobiology incorporates several innovative tools that take the place of conventional textbook study guides, and the software allows students to focus on critical material using a variety of multimedia presentations available with the PC. A student Notebook is available in every module that provides a concise review of critical information that has just been studied. An on-line test bank is available in every module that includes practice essay and multiple-choice questions. Psychobiology Help provides extensive treatment of background information, in addition to the Active Glossary which features pronunciations of terms with the PC's multimedia sound system. All anatomy modules (8 total) contain the Macroscope Viewer and Lab Draw, an easy-to-learn point-and-click graphical coloring system that allows students to prepare "coloring book" drawings from an archive of 256-color high-resolution coronal sections of the human forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain. Hardware Requirements: Windows 95 or 98 operating system, Pentium Processor/133 Mhz or faster, 16 Mb RAM (32 Mb recommended), 8514 Display Standard (1024 pixels X 768 pixels X 8-bit color) REQUIRED, Mouse, CD-ROM drive. Printer and sound card optional.
Customer Reviews:
I used this software with my book.......1999-04-26
My teacher used this software in our spring psychobiology course to help explain textbook chapters. I bought the textbook study guide and the software to help me study. I don't have much experience with computers, and was afraid to try it, but ended up using the software almost entirely to study the information. This was so much better because I could see many things that were not explained very well in the textbook (and lecture) and confused me. I really liked the software and would recommend this software to other students. The software was about the same price as the study guide, and I much preferred the software.
The best, most user friendly psychobiology tool ever!!!.......1999-04-05
This guide will ease you along the path to neuroscience knowledge in a way that is spectacular. Without question, "Principles of Psychobiology" will make mastering the topic easier. It's point and click, no hassles...just enjoy the material. The graphics are outstanding, appropriate for newcomers to the field, but excellent for more advanced students too. It will move you through this difficult subject area in a painfree way. I'd recommend to it to teachers and students alike...If your students have access to home computers or can work in a computer lab they will benefit from it. It would be appropriate for anyone from upper secondary level through graduate school. It would also be good for someone just interested in the field. There's a cool coloring book too...allows us to get all that creative stuff into a format we can print and hang on the frig.

Aerospace Engineering/Mechanical Engineering
The definitive text on rocket propulsion-now completely revised to reflect rapid advancements in the field
For more than fifty years, this seminal text has been regarded as the single most authoritative sourcebook on rocket propulsion technology. More comprehensive and coherently organized than any other book on the subject, Rocket Propulsion Elements guides readers evenhandedly through the complex factors that shape propulsion, with both theory and practical design considerations.
With more than a third of the text and illustrations either completely new or extensively revised, this latest edition includes current information on engine structures, nozzle theory, gas properties, thrust chambers, launch vehicles, and more. With a detailed table of contents breaking down each chapter into subsections-as well as an expanded index of key words-the Seventh Edition efficiently steers readers quickly to the information they need. Other highlights include:
* Separate chapters on liquid, solid, and hybrid propulsion systems and a new chapter on thrust chambers including the new aerospike nozzle
* Comprehensive coverage of rocket propulsion technology, with applications to space flight, satellite flight, and guided and unguided missiles
* Problem-solving examples and exercises relevant to actual design situations
* More than 340 illustrations, including photographs, tables, and graphs

The Bible of the Field.......2007-03-24
When as a young physicist I started working on rocket nozzle design most of the material in this book had to be dug up from a paper here, a book there, or else it simply wasn't known. Now here's everything you need to know in a couple of chapters. And besides nozzle design, here in information on virtually every aspect of rockets from the design to the propellents, from concepts to testing. Most of the book is on conventional liquid or solid fuel chemical rockets, because that's where most of the action is today. There is a new chapter (from my older edition) on electrical propulsion.
The book is suitable for use as a textbook for either a one or two term course, or as an introductory book to an engineer now moving into the field, or as a reference book for the experienced. It is especially good to use when you need to come up to speed on some area of the business where you don't normally work.
The one weakness of the book is the lack of discussion on computers either in terms of engine control systems or of the design software that is avaiable. Next revision I guess.
If you love rocket propulsion you must get this book.......2007-01-19
I have loved rocket propulsion in all its forms (real and imagined) since I was following the Apollo 11 mission on television. This book will help you with every aspect of rocketry whether for direct professional relevance, hobbyist development or whether you dream with many of us of solving the problems that will allow us (as so eloquently put by the late Carl Sagan) to "dip our toes in the cosmic ocean". I believe we must swim between the stars and the nuts and bolts foundations for doing it are in this book. Go get it. Lets do it.
Rocket Scientists Use It Too.......2006-11-17
I started work with a rocket design group fresh out of a MS in mechanical engineering. One of the first things everybody told me was to pick up a copy of Sutton. It's a good thing I did, because I immediately started referring to it for just about every project I worked. After just a few months it became a dog eared, marked, and well used reference.
It's a few years later now, and I don't work with rockets full time any more. I've forgotten enough of the details that today when I was explaining a bit of rocketry to a coworker, out came Sutton again. It's still a great book.
Fantastic resource.......2006-02-20
This was a required test for a rocket propulsion class, but it has become an invaluable resource for many classes. Purchased for at least 20% less than other outlets.
A Must-Have Textbook for every Aerospace Engineer.......2004-03-27
This is the single best book on rocket propulsion systems, covering both liquid and solid rocket engines, hybrid rocket systems, and a dedicated chapter on electric propulsion. The authors include excellent illustrations and graphs to enhance the text, and practical examples which help the reader to grasp the theory. After loaning a copy of this book for over two years from my library, i finally bought it! Definitely recommended to all engineers and scientists who want to expand into the area of rocket propulsion.

You see, miss, there's no one the boy has any claim on but me, and I ain't the proper person to bring him up. I thought some, last year, of sending him away to Frisco to school, but when they talked of bringing a schoolma'am here, I waited till I saw you, and then I knew it was all right, and I could keep my boy a little longer. And, oh! miss, he loves you so much; and if you could hear him talk about you in his pretty way, and if he could ask you what I ask you now, you couldn't refuse him.
