This is the third and final volume to the now classic Handbook of Freshwater Fishery Biology. The completed set compiles life history data and information on individual species of freshwater fish in the United States and Canada. In volume three, each chapter treats a particular species of fish. For example, the chapter on Yellow Perch is 54 pages in length. Detailed tabular data on the fish are provided concerning the length, weights, weight-length relationships, total lengths, condition factors, daily growth, lengths and weights at various ages, and number of eggs per female. In addition it compiles information from the literature on population density, food, feeding behavior, reproduction, mortality, population distribution and behavior, environmental factors, and more. The text serves as an index to the literature for each fish. The lengthy list of citations referenced in the text attests to the work the author completed in combing the fish literature, it is 84 pages in length.
The set is geared more to the professional ichthyologist and fish and game personnel. It has no illustrations in any of the volumes. Its strength is in the summary and tabular presentation of life history data gleaned from hundreds of journal articles, books, government reports, and unpublished data for each species of fish. This classic should be in every academic, state, and large public library and is essential in any ichthyology collection. Highly recommended.

This book originated out of a desire to combine topics on vibrational absorption, Raman scattering, vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) and Raman optical activity (VROA) into one source. The theoretical details of these processes are presented in ten different chapters. Using dispersive and Fourier transform techniques, the instrumentation involved in these spectral measurements are given in three chapters. Major emphasis is placed on the newer techniques, i.e. VCD and VROA, with the conventional vibrational absorption and vibrational Raman scattering methods incorporated as natural parts of the newer methods.

There are very few helpful ideas in this book that any one can practically use such as T.T. Browns work and the material components of the N-Machine with nothing more to offer. Like another book of Childress' I have it does not offer much and I will not be financially supporting this author anymore on ways of science
The Anti-Gravity Handbook.......2005-04-14
This book gives an excellent introduction to
the world of anti-gravity theory. The Biefield-Brown
effect is explored along with other anti-gravity theories.
Possibilities of time travel, teleportation and warp drive
are explored. The editor, David Hatcher Childress does an
excellent job of putting the writings of four different authors, including himself,
together to fill out this work.
The REAL deal about this book...please read before buying........2002-09-11
Ok. I hate to ruin the fun of some people but this book is a collection of science fiction unproven theories and scientific blunders. This book was writen as a joke for childress's intelligent buddies. It is just a book of jokes...Nothing in this book will give you any ideas on accually doing anything anti-gravity. This entire group of books is just enterainment for overly smart and mean people. For instance it says "if you accually read it" you can create anti gravity in your home if you take this gyroscope here do this and that and this...then remove the downward force...Did you see that last part...all you have to do is follow these simple instructions and then remove the downward force...well that downward force is gravity. It took me 3 months to convince my brother this book is fiction. People have brought law suits against mr Childress because this book is a joke...I on the other hand found this book to be very amusing...i loved Dr. Zitenbops(sp) generic anti gravity equation..."STP = the unit of lubricaation" "G = 1 gravity and 1 gravity = 1x10-6 gollygees" "G! = 1 shep,= to 1.37 moecurlys"
The book keeps getting funnier everytime I read it...But if your sense of humor is not like this then dont buy it...THIS HAS BEEN ANOTHER EPISODE OF THE REAL DEAL!!!
Entertaining and thought provoking.......2000-11-01
Okay, if you are looking for detailed plans for building a working anti-G device this is not the book for you. If you want to learn to look at science and the world in a different way then buy this book. You will find some really cool and off the wall theories as well as some entertaining fiction. I enjoyed this book immensely and so did my 8 year old daughter. After reading this book you will be inspired to do further research in anti-g field. T.T. Townsend and A. Einstien were not kooks and their ideas are valid. Buy this book and start experimenting for yourself.
Flying Saucers, a real life passion.......2000-09-30
Len Cramp is the typical eccentric Englishman. Whatever you think of the science behind his books you can be sure that they are, to him, very serious in nature and present his heartfelt view of the way things are.
Many people who write "fantastic science" books are complete charlatans. Len is not and he uses the money from his books to fund even more, completely serious, wacky and expensive experiments.
Buy the book because its fun, buy it because you beleive, buy it so that people like Len get more chance to make the world a far more interesting place. You never know... he might be right!

I loved this story, however I was not happy with the book itself. It was paperback and the pages fell out on a regular basis...approximately 15 or 20 of them.

Just got through watching the wonderful movie; not as wonderful as the book, but very good. Have now read this book at least three or four times, and still adore it every time. Has to rank as one of my all-time favorite books. Must rent an Italian castle on the western Mediterranean coast some day. The writing is so witty, and warm, the story so imaginative, the moral so wise. Love is all; just to love, not expecting anything in return. It opens people up. Lotty, Rose, Lady Caroline, and Mrs. Fisher all live in these pages. And the gardens, the flowers, the utter beauty of San Salvatore. The author quite obviously loves flowers. Even the servants are clearly drawn, Francesca and Domenico. Lotty becomes a truly original character. Love, love, love this book!
A Serene Painting of Love.......2005-11-13
Much like the film this book by Elizabeth Von Arnim inspired, there is something peaceful here on these pages. This is a gentle novel about the gradual internal changes brought about by the beauty of our surroundings. It is a book that reads itself as much as it is read, the author writing with the flow of the character's thoughts and feelings as their hearts are changed by the surprise of beauty.
An ad to rent a castle in San Salvatore on the Italian Riviera will prompt two only slightly acquainted British women named Rose and Lottie to inexplically leave their husbands behind for a summer that will change their lives and their marriages forever.
Joining Rose and Lottie for this holiday is Mrs. Fisher, an older woman living in the past, and Lady Caroline Dester, a grey-eyed society beauty tired of being gawked at like a majestic statue, not allowed to be human. Diverse in nature and temperment, not to mention background, they interact uneasily together until the flowers and the sea bring about a change in their souls.
Surrounded by fig and olive trees, plum blossoms and Tamarisk daphnes, and the scents of fortune's yellow rose and blooming acacia, the women slowly find their roles at this castle by the sea and in doing so find themselves as well. Always celebrated for its beautiful evocative setting in Portofino, THE ENCHANTED APRIL has also to some extent been dismissed as a sentimental trifle. It is not: for all its surface charm, it is also one of the most searching fictional works ever written on the nature of goodness, and its effects upon selfishness and acquisitiveness. Two Hampstead housewives, Rose Arbuthnot and Lottie Hawkins, advertise for two other women to share in the costs so that they may rent an Italian castle for the month of April and escape their loveless lives; when they and the other two women (the dazzling Lady Caroline Dester and the rigid bluestocking Mrs. Fisher) arrive at the spectacularly lovely castle, they begin to discover that not only have their spirits been refreshed but also that their value systems have changed through what amounts to the dispensation of the castle of a kind of secularized grace. Elizabeth von Arnim accomplishes this very probing study of modern British mores through the very subtle and unobtrusive psychological realist use of extended interior monologues. The result is a novel that is not only completely beguiling but actually quite thoughtful. A greatly underappreciated little gem.

Well, you've already heard about the story. Just wanted to add that the characters were so real, it was as if I were really there with them. A wonderful turn of events at the end. Caught me off guard. Very enjoyable. Beautiful writing. Now I've got to rent the movie.

Bought this book for my wife - she loves the movie. It contained numerous spelling errors, like it was a rough copy that wasn't edited. Still, my wife said it was readable, and she enjoyed it . I don't know if I would buy from this publisher again without checking the book first.

As the previous review states, this is the Tony-nominated stage adaptation of the Elizabeth von Arnim novel that played on Broadway in 2003. Romantic, funny, and utterly delightful (even more so than the original novel, in my opinion). Enjoy!
