Book Description
A decade ago, Tim Low journeyed to the remote northernmost tip of Australia. Instead of the pristine rain forests he expected, he found jungles infested with Latin American carpet grass and feral cattle. That incident helped inspire Feral Future, a passionate account of the history and implications of invasive species in that island nation, with consequences for ecological communities around the globe.
Australia is far from alone in facing horrific ecological and economic damage from invading plants and animals, and in Low's capable hands, Australia's experiences serve as a wake-up call for all of us. He covers how invasive species like cane toads and pond apple got to Australia (often through misguided but intentional introductions) and what we can do to stop them. He also covers the many pests that Australia has exported to the world, including the paperbark tree (Melaleuca) that infests hundreds of thousands of acres in south Florida.

Book Description
Polymers may be classified as either homopolymers, consisting of one single repeating unit, or copolymers, consisting of two or more distinct repeating units. Block copolymers contain long contiguous blocks of two or more repeating units in the same polymer chain. Covering one of the hottest topics in polymer chemistry, Block Copolymers provides a coherent overview of the synthetic routes, physical properties, and applications of block copolymers.
This pioneering text provides not only a guideline for developing synthetic strategies for creating block copolymers with defined characteristics, but also a key to the relationship between the physical properties of block copolymers and the structure and dynamics of materials. Covering features of the chemistry and physics of block copolymers that are not found in comparable texts, Block Copolymers illustrates the structure-activity relationship of block copolymers and offers suggestions for the design of specific applications. Divided into five sections–Block Copolymers includes chapters on:
- Block Copolymers by Chemical Modification of Precursor Polymers
- Nonlinear Block Copolymers
- Adsorption of Block Copolymers at Solid-Liquid Interfaces
- Theory of Block Copolymer Segregation
- Phase Transformation Kinetics
- Block Copolymer Morphology
- Block Copolymer Dynamics
Polymer chemists, physicists, chemical engineers, and materials scientists, as well as graduate students in polymer science, will find Block Copolymers to be an invaluable text.

Book Description
This study of the theory of electrical and thermal conduction in metals, semiconductors, and insulators is written at a level appropriate to graduate students and research workers and assumes some knowledge of wave mechanics in its reader. The basic ideas of crystal lattice dynamics, electron zone structure, and transport theory are developed from first principles, and formulae for the macroscopic coefficients are deduced by self-contained mathematical arguments. Interpretation in terms of electronic structure, chemical purity, crystal structure, and crystal perfection is emphasized as a tool for further investigation but detailed discussion of individual means or alloys is avoided.
Customer Reviews:
elegant prose, few diagrams.......2006-03-16
This reprints a book that first appeared over 40 years ago. But the material is still correct. And it has Ziman's elegant prose, that some of you might already be aware of, from his other texts.
The biggest difference between the book's presentation and a more recent text is simply the paucity of diagrams in the former. Enough do appear to illustrate the gist of various concepts. You do have to depend on your understanding of the text and the derivations of the equations.

"I'm a little white duck
sitting in the water,
a little white duck
doing what he oughter."
Children have sung this silly song written by Walt Whippo and Bernard Zaritzky for half a century. Performers from Burl Ives to Danny Kaye to Raffi have recorded it over the years. And now, for the first time, the classic sing-along song about the duck that "quack, quack, quacks," the frog that "glug, glug, glugs," and the bug that "bzz, buzz, bzz's" has made its way into picture-book format. Joan Paley's gorgeous collages are full of vivacious color and three-dimensional pizzazz. Bold, brilliant greens and blues dominate, drawing the reader deeper and deeper into the happy little world of these water critters--happy, that is, until the little red snake comes along and scares off the duck and frog and eats the bug! But he's still glad to be "a little red snake playing in the water," so all's well that ends well. To soften the blow of the untimely demise of the little black bug, all four of the characters (duck, frog, bug, snake), plus the guitar-strumming mouse narrator, take a bow on the last page, so sensitive young readers will know it's all just play-acting. Musical notation is included. (Ages 2 to 7) --Emilie Coulter

Customer Reviews:
Fabulous children's book.......2007-07-30
This is probably my 14 month old son's favorite book. We read (sang) it three times in a row today. I think it helps that the illustrations are incredible, and the lyrics flow nicely.
If you're looking for a baby gift, Little White Duck would be a great choice.
awesome book for toddlers.......2007-07-13
I bought this book for my 21/2 yr old daughter after her Kindermusik teacher read it to her class. The children loved all the animals and quickly learned to anticipate with excitement who is coming next. The rhythm of the words is delightful, and I find myself humming it throughout the day. A real classic that every child should read.
Another favorite childhood song.......2006-07-04
Even if you don't know this song, the rhythm of the lyrics, the story, and the illustrations will keep your child's attention to the end.
The fact that it's been pc'd (everybody lives in the end because it was "just a play") is fine. It's less likely to be traumatic (as opposed to, say, Go Tell Aunt Rhody) for a small child.
Another keeper.

A favorite of my 1 yo twins & Great for Signing.......2006-02-04
This book is great. I sang this book to my babies when they were only 4 months old, and they loved looking at the pictures. They still love the book and song. We always sing it in the car. After months of reading this book, we put it away for a couple of months but brought it back out when we started sign language. It is fun signing with this book with appearances by a little white duck, green frog, black bug, and red snake sitting, swimming, and playing in the water.
Little White Duck.......2002-10-25
A great sing along book that is perfect for pre-school age children. They love interacting, and with an easy tune to sing/read they will feel like they are reading the book too! As a former pre-school teacher, I look forward to reading and singing this book with my own children.

Book Description
This book (originally published in 1902) marks the first appearance of Peter Pan. One section gives give a condensed version of the text that later was expanded and elaborated to become Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens. In this early version Peter Pan was a first-person narrative about a wealthy bachelor clubman's attachment to a little boy, David. Taking this boy for walks in Kensington Gardens, the narrator tells him of Peter Pan, who can be found in the Gardens at night. Peter Pan was first performed at the Duke of York's Theatre, London, in 1904 but the play had to wait several years for a definitive printed version and it did not appear as a narrative story until 1911. The book was titled Peter and Wendy.
Barrie was a Scottish playwright and novelist. The son of a weaver, Barrie studied at the University of Edinburgh. He took up journalism, worked for a Nottingham newspaper, and contributed to various London journals before moving to London in 1885. His early works, Auld Licht Idylls (1889) and A Window in Thrums (1889), contain fictional sketches of Scottish life. The publication of The Little Minister (1891) established his reputation as a novelist. During the next 10 years Barrie continued writing novels, but gradually his interest turned toward the theater, from 1930 until his death he was chancellor of the University of Edinburgh.

A Wonderful Story.......2005-03-01
I began homeschooling my second grade son this year. We accidentally came upon a copy of this book. I began reading the story to him. After we were done with the first chapter, he begged for me to read more of the story each day! We all enjoyed the story so much. I hope he will read it to his children one day. It is a real treasure!
Incredible Tale Of A Childhood Must-Have Book.......1998-01-20
I had this book read to me by my 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Reed. It is my favorite book of all time, and the story is fascinating. Even now, while in college, I still remember how often I would read this book as a child. However, there was only one copy at my elementary school library, so I have been unable to find this book--until now. Thanks to Amazon, they found a copy for me and it's on its way to me now!! I'm thankful I'll be able to read this book to my children of an incredible tale of a child-hood must-have book!
