The book is great. It covers everything you need for the MCAT without giving to much detail. I'd recommend the whole ExamKrackers series. How much better are the new updated edtions? I'm not sure.

OK for physics review.......2006-11-04

not the best mcat physics review book, IMO. the list of formulas is nice but other than that, just an OK book.

Use in Combination with Another Review Book.......2006-10-04

I find that this review book does the best job of directly telling what will and what will not be on the MCAT (I'm basing my comparison to Kaplan's and Princeton Review's Physics materials). Be forewarned, you must have a good background knowledge of introductory Physics to get the maximum benefit from this book. If you are in need of deep, thorough review of Physics (i.e. your Physics is weak), I wouldn't start here. I am using this book as a complement to Kaplan's review book that I received when I enrolled in Kaplan's MCAT course.

The book is broken down into 8 chapters, or lectures, each with a new Physics topic. There are discrete problems within each lecture, as well as a 30 minute "mini-MCAT" to take after you've completed the reading for each lecture. Though I am very pleased by the abundance of MCAT-like questions (and satisfied with the explanations), I find the questions emphasize a conceptual understanding of the material, and don't require a lot of calcuation. That's great for aiding in your conceptual understanding, but I'd also recommend doing additional practice with MCAT problems from another source to get used to doing relatively complex compuatations quickly and without a calculator.

Overall, however, I'm please with this book; it's the best Physics review book I've come across so far.

Don't Study with this book........2006-06-18

I do not recommend this book. Not only it is poorly written, it will not give you the understanding you will need to do well on MCAT physics. This book is clearly not written by someone who REALLY understands physics. The questions at the end of each topic are way harder than the material covered and the explanation are poor and incomplete. STAY AWAY! I wish someone had told me this and had saved me time.

Mehh, its OK - dont believe the hype.......2007-08-23

I admit that Examkrackers is all right - they are the best condensed review for the MCAT on the market. Of course this doesn't mean jack considering that the rest of the review materials (kaplan, etc.) are pretty much garbage. Does it make you the best if you're king of the garbage pile? I'm not saying that Examkrackers sucks - its just OK. Its the best MCAT review on the market, but it has a ton of problems - many concepts are explained vaguely (thermodynamics, electromagnetism, and optics to name a few), the answers for the review questions are vague, and THEY ARE ACTUALLY NOW CHARGING FOR MEMBERSHIP ON THEIR WEBSITE TO SEE THE ERRATA TO THEIR BOOKS. So if you buy this set, be prepared to shell out more cash to join their forums to get a clearer explanation to certain topics only vaguely referred to in their books. Let me also say to look elsewhere for a condensed review on electromagnetism (they left A TON of stuff out). Its pros are that they give great condensed reviews on Biology and Organic chem.

I don't know how they've got a ton of 5 star reviews - I think THE ExamKrackers COMPANY IS ACTUALLY filling out at least 75% of the 5 star reviews on amazon (shame shame) - its 4 stars AT BEST... Not that that means its a totally crappy product...

This package is geared toward to new computer-based MCAT. The entire package consists of five books (bio, organic chem, chem, physics, verbal and a practice exam). The materials covered in the book is succint and colorful that makes studying fun and efficient. Highly recommended to everyone who is going to take MCAT.

This is a great package with all you need to know about the material that's on the MCAT's. This package includes a review book on each subject. Each book sums up the material, which i normally find difficult to understand, and makes it easy to remember with a little bit of humor. This package was perfect for what i needed to prepare. Don't waste your money on the exam classes. teach yourself with these books and you'll remember more.

This product is definately the way to go. I have gone through the Kaplan book as well as this series, and there is really no comparison. Examkrackers is a superior product.

Outstanding product! I prepared for the MCAT last year with a different company and spent almost $1700 for an online class (completed all the material too). My first MCAT scores were less than adequate to say the least. I have spent 4 weeks now using this material (Plus Audio Osmosis- and a few other ExamKrackers material-Examkrackers MCAT Audio Osmosis with Jordan and Jon (Examkrackers)Examkrackers 16 Mini Mcat's (Examkrackers MCAT Manuals)) and feel SO much more prepared than I did last year. I could have saved over $1200 if I used ExamKrackers last year.
This product sums up a tremendous amount of information. Even better, it is full of short cuts and memory aids that are essential for the timed MCAT test. My scores have improved DRAMATICALLY!

This book develops the dual themes that languages can differ widely in their vocabularies, and are also sensitive indices to the cultures to which they belong. Wierzbicka seeks to demonstrate that every language has "key concepts," expressed in "key words," which reflect the core values of a given culture. She shows that cultures can be revealingly studied, compared, and explained to outsiders through their key concepts, and that the analytical framework necessary for this purpose is provided by the "natural semantic metalanguage," based on lexical universals, that the author and colleagues have developed on the basis of wide-ranging cross-linguistic investigations. Appealing to anthropologists, psychologists, and philosophers as well as linguists, this book demonstrates that cultural patterns can be studied in a verifiable, rigorous, and non-speculative way, on the basis of empirical evidence and in a coherent theoretical framework.

Fascinating stuff........1999-10-22

Contrary to the previous reviewer's opinion, I found this book fascinating. I don't have a Ph.D. in linguistics either.

Her claim is *not* that one cannot understand the key words of a culture without being immersed in the culture, only that one cannot understnad the key words of a culture by means of simplistic translations or definitions. She attempts to provide careful and precise definitions, given in what she calls the "Natural Semantic Metalanguage" -- an extremely restricted vocabulary consisting of words that, as far as she has been able to tell via research, have equivalents in every natural language.

I don't buy all of her "Natural Semantic Metalanguage" theories (for which see her other book _Semantics: Primes and Universals_) but it sure is a useful tool for the job she's doing here.

Wierzbicka's academic fluff chokes meanings........1999-03-16

I read this book for an athropology class at a western private university. I have to say that while Wierzbicka's domination of different languages is impressive, her "fluffy" explanations of the key words in the book tend to bore the reader, thus leaving him/her more confused about the meanings of the key words than before. Furthermore, her findings tend to undermine her own premise that a culture's key words cannot be understood except by understanding the culture itself. No one person can claim to explain--as she does--what certain words mean within their cultural realm without having been immmersed totally in that culture (usually born and raised). Thus, one is lead to believe that even she doesn't understand the "key words" totally, and her credibility is therefore undermined. I wouldn't recommend the book to anyone with less than a Ph.D. in Linguistics.
