Bootiful? I think noot........2002-12-10

One would have thought Mr. Matthews to have been the very last person to bring out a book on parasitology. The timing of this release, so close to Christmas, beggars belief. I for one will never buy any of his Turkey Nuggets again, if, as this book would have us believe, they are ridden with Ascarida galli and Capillaria amulata. That Crispy Golden Brown Breadcrumb coating you're chomping down on might not be what you expect. My advice would be not to buy this book but get some Pripsen in instead.

Superb book.......2006-07-19

Very well written and easy to follow. Includes good examples and illustrations. A true must for any serious pipe designers out there. I use this book alongside a CAD library from Hercule Design and I am able to produce complicated systems with ease and speed. Job well done!

Worst book ever.......2007-07-03

They actually have plans for a PVC walking stick. Weapons? String two footlong pieces together to make nunchucks, etc. I guarantee anyone out there could write this book in 15 minutes. A terrible waste of money, I'm sorry I bought it.

Very basic.......2006-10-26

This book has a couple of novel ideas for things that could be made with PVC but they are so basic that anyone who is the least bit handy around the house/shop could make them without the book. The only plus is that, if you did want to build one of these projects, the book gives a materials list and the measurement so you dont have to figure that stuff out yourself.

Had it been from a local store I would have returned it, but it isnt worth the shipping to send it back to Amazon.

Crude, simple and just plan stupid ideas for pvc piping........2006-05-24

Okay, so you read the title. What a rip off. Most of these ideas are just plain stupid. Use a section of 6" pipe with a cap on the end as a bucket. But, my all time favorite is to use two small pipes with caps. You are to place two roofing nails through the caps and cover the nails with cork. Then thread para-cord throught he ends and wear them around your neck. These are to be used while ice fishing. If you fall through the ice you just grab one in each hand and jab them into the ice. The cork will fall away and those cheap roofing nails will dig into the ice. Most of the ideas are not even worth mentioning. Like placing two pieces of pvc pipe together in an 'x' to make a bi-pod for a rifle. It is just endless usless, stupid ideas that follow one after another as you turn the pages. Just place 'pvc projecs' into any seach engine and get real ideas that work. I hate this book so much, the only reason I keep it is to remind me not to by stupid publications like this again in the future. What a waste of time and money. And to think the author actually got paid to write a second book!!

This book is interesting and informative. I have a lot of new projects to work on. The directions are easy to understand and the projects sparked other ideas for me.

Not for the pros out there........2003-03-15

Ok, So you've seen PVC pipes used to make furniture, and you've probably heard of people using it to cache supplies in, but Tom Forbes uses it for A LOT more than that! This books walks you step by step through making many items, with excellent illustrations, non techincal language, and basic tools. Learn to make everything from Snowshoes, to target stands and rests, to boot dryers and snow sleds. Also covered are Teepees, portable ground blinds, latrines, showers, cots, cigarette Cases, packframes and much much more!

Unsurpassed.......2007-05-19

Although I have only the first edition, I still find it to be of immense value, and hands-down superior to any other book on the subject (save the newer edition perhaps). It seamlessly weaves together theory, mathematics, and experimental observation, into a very readable and (surprisingly) interesting text. Because it explains the fundamentals so well, Schlichting's book is one of those rare engineering classics that will continue to be of value for a very long time to come.

This is the classic book on the subject to be ever written and retains its class by incorporating some of the recent developments in the boundary layer theory.

good book ; bad translation.......2005-01-26

this is a classic book. however, the new 8th edition is not translated very well. i have an older english version (6th edition, 1968) that is translated much better. even where the content is the same between the two editions, the "updated" translation is worse that in the original version.

A Must-have Book for Fluid Mechanics Researchers!.......2000-10-22

This is the best and the most classical fluid mechanics book that i have read. Read it through carefully and you will get much from it. Reading it from time to time can give you many new knowledge every time.

a welcoming anthology.......2001-01-09

Expensive, yes. But there aren't a whole lot of Troubadour or Trouvère anthologies available in print, especially ones with music. And this is an excellent anthology, beautifully produced on light crème-colored 250-year acid-free paper. It's probably the next best thing to owning G, R, X, or W, one of the 4 existing Troubadour chansonniers with music. Notation is mostly the enlightened non-metrical variety proposed by Hendrik van der Werf: noteheads only, with neumes indicated by slurs. The page layout is spacious and delightful, with side-by side text and translation of Old Occitan to English by Margaret Switten and Old French to English by Samuel Rosenberg. Both text editors have given very clear, flowing translations. I especially appreciate Switten for preserving the Old Occitan syntax as much as possible, which makes it much easier to get a handle on the learning the original Occitan while working through a song.

You don't have to be a musicologist to appreciate this anthology. Though solidly researched with sources and key editorial decisions clearly indicated, most of the "critical apparatus" has been left to the editors' previous publications. Commentary is given at the section headings for the various poet-composers along with their vidas (lifes). Pronunciation guides and introductory essays give just enough linguistic, musicological, and historical background and differing opinions to encourage readers and singers to draw their own conclusions and make their own informed and inspired interpretations. To continue the tradition. A small selection of sharply-reproduced facimile pages makes the visual and spiritual link between this rare volume and the chansonniers of old.

The accompanying CD is well performed and a joy to listen to.
