Frankia Symbiosis (Developments in Plant and Soil Sciences)

The 12 ^th meeting on Frankia and Actinorhizal Plants that took place in Carry-le-Rouet, France in June 2001 was the opportunity for scientists to communicate about latest developments on this symbiosis that concerns a wide range of dicotyledonous plants, initiates ecological successions and is used in a number of countries to protect crops from winds or improve soil status. Selected papers on plant ecology, Frankia's genetics or physiology, and host plants' genetics or physiology are published in this special Plant & Soil issue.

This is theeeeee most comprehensive book on the subject!! if you want to dig into E&M further, check out his book on Introduction to Classical Electrodynamics by Y. K. Lim

Only Good If You Attend One of Those Universities.......2004-12-24

This book is only useful if you attend one of the universities where the questions where adapted from. The problems cover only basic electromagnetics, it does not cover advanced electromagnetic problems such as scattering (physical optics, geometric optics/geometric theory of diffraction,...), mode-matcing, and integral equations. This book only helped me to review statics. Do not buy this book unless you want a basic refresher on electromagnetics.

One of the most useful books I have ever purchased.......2002-01-17

I purchased this book to assist me in my graduate courses using Jackson's text. Many of the homework assignments were actually problems taken from qualifying exams at different universites, so this book was very helpful for those problems. As for the Jackson problems, one will be lucky to find any help at all (too bad). I strongly recommend this to anyone who is pursuing a graduate physics degree, not only because it is an excellent handbook for the qualifying exam and homework assignments, but also because it is a very well organized source of information on the subject of Electromagnetism.

In addition to this text, I have also purchased the volumes on Quantum Mechanics and Mechanics. Both are as useful as this text, though I have to say that all of them lack a comprehensive index. There are also some errors, but they are few and far between. Also, these books do not provide background on any equations used. They may say something like "With the application of Schrodinger's Equation, this becomes...", yet in the same problem there may have been a step where De Moivre's theorem was applied and the authors have neglected to mention it. I suppose this is useful because if one is using the book as a study guide, it would not be instructive unless one was actually working out the problem, so it is up to the reader to uncover the little details.

A real gem!!!.......1999-10-29

The entire series is my savior. Each volume covers the material needed in the junior/senior level of physics. It truly has an emense selection of problems. I found that nearly all of my homework/exams were either exactly the same or merely a slight variation from one contained. I also have yet to find a single error, not even a sign error. One important thing is that it does need to be a supplement, as formulas are sometimes used without explicit reference to why. In general the reasons need to be found in an assigned text. My only gripe (and it is minor) is with the index...the index does not, in general, lead one to a relevent problem. For example, uses of Biot/Savart to solve this problem or that... The reason this is not a serious problem is that each topic has so many variations on the method/technique that it is simple enough to find at least a couple that are completely relevent. (given you know which section to look in)

This is an excellent translation of an amazing book.

Not only does Greenberg's translation rhyme (as opposed to the free-verse versions of lesser translators), but it's a great deal more intelligible to modern American readers than the other translations I've read. Nothing has been dumbed down, this book radiates the same brilliance and wit as the German original.

I highly recommend it.

A masterful translation.......1999-12-27

After comparing most of the major English translations of Faust (Luke, Kaufmann, Arndt, Wayne) I found Martin Greenberg's to be the most beautiful and accessible of them all. Greenberg does an excellent job of suiting the tenor of the verse to the dramatic occasion, ranging from low comical to sublime lyric. Whereas the majority of previous English translations tend (mistakenly) strive for a uniformly "elevated" tone, Greenberg's translation gets the nuances right. A central idea running throughout Goethe's works is that in any comprehensive formulation of life, extremes must be united. The range of poetic styles in Faust--from high to low, comic to tragic, beautiful to sublime, "volk" slang to epic vaunt--also follows this general rule, and again Greenberg's sensativity to this range is wonderful. While the other translations are not bad, if you really want to experience the fantastic emotional-intellectual rollercoaster ride of Faust, this translation does it best.

Avoid this translation like the plague!!!.......1999-06-13

Disregard this warning at your own risk! Martin Greenberg believes that everything should be translated according to Wordsworth's dictum that poetry should be in the "ordinary speech used by men"--regardless of the language of the original. Could you imagine Shakespeare's sonnets being translated into common, slang-filled, modern-day say French or Spanish??? Well, that is what this absurdly dumbed-down version of Faust manages to do. By all means, read either the Oxford World's Classics paperback version by David Luke (easily the best) or the Stuart Atkins version in Princeton's Collected Works series. This book is trash, pure and simple!
