Book Description
This lab manual teaches how microbiological principles should be applied in practice. The labs are specifically designed for allied health and nursing microbiology courses, offering students a foundation in the practical lab skills and knowledge they need to be successful in this profession. Coverage of disease-causing microorganisms is organized by organism first and then subsequently by the body system affected. Critical-thinking questions challenge students to apply chapter material. Case studies are presented at the end of each disease chapter. These questions and case studies help students develop critical thinking skills and also serve to generate class discussions.

Human Biology: Concepts and Current Issues (4th Edition) (The Human Biology Place Series)
ASIN: 0072905859 |
Book Description
The laboratory exercises in this manual are coordinated with Human Biology, a text that has two primary functions: 1) to understand how the human body works and 2) to understand the relationship of humans to other living things in the biosphere. This laboratory manual allows adaptation to a variety of course orientations and designs. There are a sufficient number of laboratories to permit a choice of activities over the length of the course. Many activities may be performed as demonstrations rather than as student activities, thereby shortening the time required to cover a particular concept.

Book Description
The exercises comprising this laboratory manual are intended to supplement the text Concepts in Biology, but they can be used with any introductory-level biology text. Laboratory exercises begin with a list of safety issues that students need to be aware of. These items identify caustic chemicals, equipment that needs special care or handling, and health or safety hazards a careless student may encounter.
We suggest that students use the laboratory manual as a workbook and record data and answers to questions in the spaces provided. The laboratory gives students the opportunity to "get involved in biology." They go beyond reading and studying and actually enter into the process of doing science.

Excellent Condition/More than I expected.......2002-10-08
The Lab Manual I purchase "used condition, some writing". Was in very good condition. Only 2-5 pages were written on and the remainder of the Manual was perfect. Shipping was in one weeks time with a guarentee, and option to send back if I wasn't satisfied. The Lab Manual met my need. *And much cheaper than buying the Manual from school.
Good in many ways, but contains errors.......2002-08-29
While this book was helpful in my AP Biology class, we spent many periods debating over how to interpret certain diagrams, only to find out that the reason it was so hard to understand was because the diagram itself was badly drawn. Some are more complicated or more simple than they need to be, one or two are just wrong. However, I highly recommend this book to anyone who learns well by the written word rather than by pictures.

Customer Reviews:
Should be on every Developer and Engineer's shelf........2006-11-01
Dr. Taylor does his usual great job covering a difficult subject - ties in well with his "Applied Life Data Analysis", the revered reliability resource. Because of his GE background, he emphasizes experimental plans and analysis methods (i.e.: partially censored) which permit you to make good predictions regarding a product or system while you are still collecting data (e.g.: management wants an answer NOW, even if the experiment is not completed). A few more examples of how "typical" systems behave would be helpful, but otherwise a great resource.
Great companion volume to Applied Life Data Analysis.......2004-01-30
I agree with the previous reviewer that this is the definitive classic in accelerated life testing. It's a great companion volume to Dr. Nelson's "Applied Life Data Analysis" which remains one of the best reliability textbooks ever written. I have noticed that all major reliability and accelerated testing programs use this book as their main reference - proof of the books usefulness. My only compaint is with the publishers for the steep price - now that they're bringing out a lower cost version of Applied Life Data Analysis, I hope they'll bring out a low-cost or paperback version of this classic as well.
best statistical account of accelerated testing.......2000-06-22
Nelson is a private consultant who has worked on countless practical problems in reliability from his consulting practice and previous employment at General Electric. He is an excellent lecturer and writer. His earlier book "Applied Life Data Analysis" was considered to be one of the best texts on reliability.
This book is very thorough in its treatment of all aspects of accelerated testing and is filled with many good references. Nelson carefully defines the mathematical models which consist of two components, (1) an acceleration function which describes how the mean lifetime changes as a function of the acceleration factor and (2) a probability distribution that explains the random variability of outcomes at each acceleration factor. A particular mean function could be the Arrhenius relationship and the probability distribution could be exponential. Hence there is not a single Arrhenius acceleration model but rather an Arrhenius-exponential, an Arrhenius-lognormal or an Arrhenius-Weibull model. The book is filled with interesting theory and examples. Nelson provides excellent practical guidance based on his wealth of experience.

Book Description
The authors of this monograph have developed a large and important class of survival analysis models that generalize most of the existing models. In a unified, systematic presentation, this monograph fully details those models and explores areas of accelerated life testing usually only touched upon in the literature. Accelerated Life Models: Modeling and Statistical Analysis presents models, methods of data collection, and statistical analysis for failure-time regression data in accelerated life testing and for degradation data with explanatory variables. In addition to the classical results, the authors devote considerable attention to models with time-varying explanatory variables and to methods of semiparametric estimation. They also examine the simultaneous analysis of degradation and failure-time data when the intensities of failure in different modes depend on the level of degradation and the values of explanatory variables. The authors avoid technical details by explaining the ideas and referring to resources where thorough analysis can be found. Whether used for teaching, research or general reference, Accelerated Life Models: Modeling and Statistical Analysis provides new and known models and modern methods of accelerated life data analysis.

Book Description
This Source Book brings together classic texts by and about Thomas Morepoet, scholar, statesman, family man, educational reformer, philosopher, historian, and saint. In addition to serving as an introduction to More's life and writings for the general reader, this collection is a helpful companion to the study of More's literary and philosophical masterwork, Utopia, and to the study of sixteenth-century history, literature, philosophy, or politics. The writings focus upon More's views of education, political theory, church-state relations, love and friendship, practical politics, and the vexing issues of conscience. They shed light on the distinctive Christian humanism that More expressed and embodied. Also included in this book are three famous sixteenth-century accounts of More's life by Erasmus, Roper, and a team of London playwrights including William Shakespeare.
Customer Reviews:
A Thomas More Source Book.......2006-03-22
Although some scholars purchase this book as part of the class and lecture series on Thomas More, I bought it to console myself since I could not attend a class.
I was impressed by Thomas More's clarity of thought and ability to decide "the right thing to do" at each turn in his life. Clearly, many of his contemporaries admired him for this characteristic of his as well, as their contributions to this book show. I enjoyed the thought-provoking depth which Thomas More shares through his own writing.
Great addition to Renaissance studies!.......2004-11-05
What a great contribution these authors have made to the world of Renaissance and Thomas More studies! This comprehensive anthology provides a wealth of primary sources as well as related materials on Thomas More and his world. Due to the multi-faceted character of its subject, this book will be of interest to historians, biographers, educators, theologians, writers, politicians, and many others as well. The "Man for All Seasons" was a lawyer, judge, husband and father, scholar, counselor to the king, and martyr, and this rich source book provides the background to the inner man. The authors begin with contemporary biographies and sketches of More, then explore samples of his own works. Selections from his early poems and letters are followed by some of his writings on education (he was a trend-setter in promoting education of women), government, and religion. The closing section, "More's Last Days", includes samples of his letters, various accounts of his trial, and the Paris Newsletter report on his execution.
This book provides a solid foundation for More studies and would serve as an excellent college text. Following an informative Introduction, a treasury of More-related material is provided. Even the Elizabethan play "Munday and Shakespeare's 'Sir Thomas More'" is provided in its entirety. Explanatory introductions are given to all selections, and clear glosses enrich the text throughout the book. Perhaps the only thing one might miss here is More's most famous work, "Utopia", but for study at this level, it certainly deserves to be treated separately, in its entirety.
This handsome and convenient text is further enriched by a lovely collection of portraits and other related artworks, even reproductions of pages from More's prayer book (showing his own hand-written additions). Helpful material at the end of the book includes several chronologies, some original well-annotated maps, and a very thorough Index. These tools should prove most useful to More scholars.
In sum, I feel that this book provides a wonderful tool for those who explore the world of Renaissance England and the person of Thomas More. We can only be grateful that Professors Wegemer and Smith foresaw the need for this book and did such a fine job in producing it.
