Book Description
Research in the genomics of a handful of fungi has matured at an unprecedented rate allowing comprehensive review. Developments in fungal genomics should be of great significance to new strategies in fields where disciplinary crossovers of fungal genomics, genes and their regulation, expression, and engineering will have a strong impact in dealing with agriculture, foods, natural resources, life sciences, biotechnology, informatics, metabolomics, pharmaceuticals and bioactive compounds.
This volume analyzes the commonly used molecular markers systems, and elaborates the development of biochemical genetics, which provides a model system that established the relationship between genes and enzymes. Current knowledge about the genomic and genetic variability of Candida albicans, the polymorphic fungus that is an opportunistic human pathogen of increasing medical importance, has been covered in detail. Current understanding of the genetics and functional genomic analysis of the most important fungal pathogens of staple food crops, rice and wheat among others is covered including chapters dealing with the genomics of economically important fungi such asMagnaporthe grisea, Aspergillus, Fusarium, Penicillium, Trichoderma, Rhizoctonia, Mycosphaerella graminicola, and entomopathogenic fungi. With several thousand recent citations, it is hoped that volume four will serve as a useful reference for knowledgeable veterans and beginners as well as those crossing disciplinary boundaries into the exciting field of biotechnology, genomics and bioinformatics of fungi.

Book Description
Most genetics textbooks deal adequately with plant and animal genetics, but tend to neglect fungi except for two areas. Firstly, the ascus segregations which, in the 1960s, contributed so much to developing an understanding of the mechanism of recombination and secondly, the contribution that work on yeast (as a model eukaryote) is currently making to understanding cell cycle control and its genetic regulation. Consequently, most introductory genetics texts will leave the reader/student with the impression that fungi are of use when peculiarities of their structure or life style suit them to particular experimental approaches, but are not worth mentioning otherwise. The authors have produced a book that will compensate for this imbalance. This book discusses the genetics of fungi in a way that is attractive and challenging, succinct yet comprehensive, sensitive to commercial and applied aspects, yet also theoretical, dealing with their genetics from molecules to individuals to population. This short text will be an ideal supplement to the established basic textbooks in genetics or can be used as the sole text for an advanced course devoted to fungal genetics.

Book Description
The population genetics and speciation of fungi is a rapidly developing field, heavily dependent upon the use of molecular markers. No basic text exists which describes the methods employed or the findings obtained from such investigations. This book is intended to provide such an account. It describes the methodologies employed and, for the benefit of the non-mycological reader, a brief introduction to basic fungal biology. Recent findings relating to processes in fungal populations - mutation, migration, recombination, heterokaryosis, hybridization, polyploidy, and the operation of selective forces are combined with traditional fungal biology. Finally the taxonomic problems raised by fungal species are discussed, together with the processes of speciation.

Book Description
Through the integration of bioinformatic, genetic, transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic, phenomic and other massive datasets, genomics is revealing exciting new insights into fungal cell biology. The central theme of this volume is the strong impact that genomics is having upon our understanding of fungal biology, across a wide range of species, including model yeasts (such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Schizosaccharomyces pombe), filamentous fungi (such as Neurospora crassa and Aspergillus nidulans) and pathogenic fungi (such as Magnaporthe grisae, Candida albicans, Cryptococcus neoformans and Histoplasma capsulatum). World-renowned scientists address the following topics in these fungi: systems biology and evolution, circadian rhythms, apoptosis and stress responses, secretion, and environmental signalling networks. Particular emphasis is placed on fungal pathogenicity. Various genomic technologies are discussed, including genome-wide sequence comparisons, transcript profiling, proteomics, metabolomics and bioinformatics.

Download Description
The prediction of turbulent flows is of paramount importance in the development of complex engineering systems involving flow, heat and mass transfer, and chemical reactions. Arising from a programme held at the Isaac Newton Institute in Cambridge, this volume reviews the current situation regarding the prediction of such flows through the use of modern computational fluid dynamics techniques, and attempts to address the inherent problem of modelling turbulence. In particular, the current physical understanding of such flows is summarised and the resulting implications for simulation discussed. The volume continues by surveying current approximation methods whilst discussing their applicability to industrial problems. This major work concludes by providing a specific set of guidelines for selecting the most appropriate model for a given problem. Unique in its breadth and critical approach, this book will be of immense value to experienced practitioners and researchers, continuing the UK's strong tradition in fluid dynamics.

M. D. Gray, author of "Smilosophy:Getting More Smileage Out of Life" wholeheartedly recommends this one. This book is an easy read and can be taken in small or large portions. A Definite Masterpiece.......2002-01-26
What a great little book! This small book is really a small masterpiece. Lots of wisdom is painted on the pages in an easy-to-read-format that includes anecdotes and quotes from the famous to the humble, including Abraham Lincoln and Mother Teresa. It is chock full of motivational sayings and inspirational messages. Perfect for anyone.
it is truly a masterpiece.......2001-12-02
I find this book helpful. I read a chapter each night before bed. My days seem to go better. I showed it to a friend who now wants a copy so I plan to order another one as a xmas gift.
Each chapter reflects want I want to hear. I am on my second time through. I highly recommend this book to help you get your life on track.
EASY READING WITH POWERFUL MESSAGES!.......2001-11-10
This is not one of those long, drawn-out books that keeps one reading for pages before the chapter ends. It is the type of book one can pick up and easily read a chapter in a few short minutes or read the entire book in day. However, there are so many poignant, thought-provoking messages contained within these pages, that it is a book you will want to return to again and again. The book can lift spirits, calm the soul and soothe a broken heart. It is about loving, losing and living and few people ever live a perfect life all the time. Regardless of age or gender, readers will be happy that they purchased the book and will find the words both inspirational and memorable.

M. Scott Peck, author of THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED, calls
one of Michael Lynberg's earlier books "a spiritual
gem." Another of Lynberg's books, Peck says, is
"extraordinarily rare -- that is to say, if you want a
gift to leave your children, give this one."
Now, the two books that M. Scott Peck is praising --
THE GIFT OF GIVING and THE PATH WITH HEART -- are
updated and combined in MAKE EACH DAY YOUR
MASTERPIECE.
I've read most of Michael Lynberg's work, and this is
by far his best. He has formatted it into short,
easy-to-read chapters -- perfect for our busy lives.
He has also packed it with moving stories and powerful
insights that are worth turning to again and again.
If you'd like to elevate your life and to "live
deeply," as Thoreau endeavored to do; and if you'd
like to discover and express the very best that's in
you, then don't miss this remarkable book!
