Excellent conveyance of basic noise control techniques.......1996-11-03

The authors show a clear understanding of noise and vibration control and are able to convey this information in a manner that is easily understood by the novice, while at the same time not being so simple as to bore the those seeking a refresher course or just wanting to get other opinions. The section on case studies was especially helpful to provide real life scenarios for reference. The illustrations are also very good.

This book is completely outmoded and does NOT reflect the current figural sketch-like freehand drawing in fashion design.

The book was produced in 1996 and seems even outdated for that year... big shoulders, models are much too literal, etc.

This book is poorly put together. It looked as if it had been copied and it was even double copied on some pages. It also had no cover or colored pages. Figures are small proportions, not up to date with fashion figures. It was a bunch of copied pages

Yes, this book is very helpful with developing design skills. The only thing I was unhappy with when I recieved it in the mail was that on the preview of it on this website Amazon.com it looks as though it would be in color...only when it came it looked like it was xeroxed (and a bad job at that) it was obviously printed in color to begin with but has since been printed in black, gray & white. For instance, it goes to describe a color scale but the "color" scale is gray & black. It also has a section about highlights & skin color yet alas, it is gray & black...Very helpful but at the same time very disappointing...

You have to wonder exactly who is this book directed towards.

It was certainly not directed towards the average digital camera user who might be interested in taking some close-up or macro shots and were hoping to get some creative ideas from this book. The majority of the shots in the book were taken with a professional (or standard) DSLRs, often with micro/macro lenses.

Unfortunately, the book provided very little information on how each shot was set up nor did the authors attempt to present any creative ideas on close-up/macro photography. Instead the book focuses almost entirely on the post processing technique of each picture as 90% of all of the shots were extensively processed with Photoshop, often with various plug-ins. Conclusion: if you haven't been using Photoshop CS to post-process your pictures, you bought the wrong book.

Believe it or not, a few of the 40+ shots in the book were taken with film cameras, then scanned. And to top it all off, several of the pictures are not what the average person might even consider to be a close-up.

On the plus side, if you had just laid out $700+ for Photoshop Creative Suite and wonder what you can do with it, then this book might be of value to you as it is well organized and very well written. I am sure the authors can do much better.

The book is available now. It helped me gain a better understanding of organizational systems and corporate culture from the Asian Pacific American viewpoint. The case studies were amusing and enjoyable, thus helping to guide me through the theoretical concepts that would of been other wise too overwhelming. The discussion questions and exercises were also very useful.

The authors chose Hungary in the early 90s as a case study in how innovative technologies might propagate in a modern economy. Where this economy was not at the level of western Europe, but still more advanced than the Third World.

Specifically, they considered how computer numerically controlled machine tools might spread throughout the Hungarian manufacturing sector. In retrospect, this was a good choice. CNC tools were indeed an advanced technology, driven by progress in computers. But they were also applied in a traditional industrial context. So there was plenty of Communist-era data to compare against. In part, this reflected the Communist preference for heavy industry, and the tangible metrics of productivity those engendered.

Hence, CNC tools offered the possibility of improved quality and quantity, where these could usually be readily measured. Which drove their adoption throughout Hungary.
