The Perfect Sidekick To Marieb's 6th Edition Text.......2004-02-01
This laboratory manual is the perfect follow-up to Marieb's 6th Edition for many, many reasons. It not only goes into greater detail about material presented in the book with suggested lab exercises, but also successfully breaks down all the "fluff" into an understandable format. Utilizing the effectiveness of the PhysioEX CD-ROM and the many detailed diagrams which come in a massive abundance, this lab manual is perfectly suitable for anyone looking for an extra reference source to use. Overall there are 46 different exercises which closely mirror the progressing content of the book, along with 46 more practice exercises that're really quizzes over the covered material. The many highlighted phrases and bolded words really help to point out what is most crucial to memorize and (as I've found after taking my first test) really are a big help. All in all I'd have to say this lab manual is nothing short of spectacular - from the way it meticulously guides the student through the actual lab step by step, to the way the information is presented in an understandable manner. The price is pretty reasonable, however the only advice I do have for potential buyers is to try and buy a hardback copy if available. The one I own that came with my text is a spiral-bound paperback and is very susceptible to damage. Nevertheless, if you're not able to find a hardback copy I'd still recommend this to anyone taking Anatomy & Physiology simply for its priceless information.

Authoritative but disappointing.......2007-05-30
This text has a plethora of information regarding anything mathematics has to offer, however it has some limitations. For example, its commentary on probability and applied statistics is lacking in depth, perhaps from the author's lower level of interest in these topics. The same information that can be found in this book, only more up-to-date, is freely available in the public domain. However, the book does look interesting on the coffee table and can be the centre of conversation.
Love the website, hate CRC.......2007-01-24
The website is superb and even more comprehensive than the text.
Further, after reading the account of how the barbarians at CRC treated the production of this book, I now categorically dispense any and all CRC literature directly to the garbage can without even opening. As an academic, I will never again consider any of their offerings for any of my academic duties or courses.
Don't waste your time with the book. Use the website and avoid CRC.
Labor of Love.......2006-12-03
This volume is a labor of love of Eric Weisstein. It took me more than two years (two or three pages a day) to read it all the way through from A to Z, but it was worth it! Number theory, integer sequences, probability theory, analytic geometry, and solid geometry are covered very, very well. Calculus and differential equations are not covered so well, although there is a good write-up for the wave equation. There are many illustrations, but there could be more. Also, there could be more worked example calculations--but then the volume wouldn't be so concise. References are excellent. I found very few typos. Recommended for all Ph.D.-level scientists, engineers, and mathematicians.
Boycott CRC Press.......2005-11-27
I like many of my colleagues have intentionally now for years boycotted CRC due to its unethical dealings with the author of this book (Dr. Weisstein, Wolfram Mathworld). I can only hope their sales have suffered as a result. Spread the word: don't buy anything from CRC Press.
Paper thin pages.......2005-09-10
I agree with the comment about the decreased quality of paper in the second edition. I also agree that the website is phenomenal. I cannot find another like it. The word "encyclopedia" is a misnomer in the title of this book because it is laid out more like a dictionary. Though there are lots of illustrations, there are no pictures. Again the paper quality makes the book unreadable. An encyclopedia has well written cross-referenced articles. This book reads more like a dictionary. The website, especially the interactive models are awesome though. Very interesting. If you want a dictionary for looking up equations, why not use the website? As for readability and learning more about the subject this book does not grab your interest.

I have this book as a textbook this semester and it has great info.It might have TOO much info though.Reading entire genres with this book can be a chore on the mind because the book is so large and intimidating to begin with.Also,the introductions for genres and authors are a bit too "acedemic" and bland;I constantly find myself looking to see how many pages are left to a chapter,due to lost interest.The upside and reason for 4 stars:the inclusion of full pieces of literature from the beggining of book-making to the present;the wealth of great stories will keep a mind feeding for many days(or a full semester.)While it can be tedious,it's worth reading.
A Great Resource, as Well as Enjoyable.......2007-08-04
This book is HUGE! I love the hard slipcover this book comes in, which keeps the book in great condition. This book is definitely informative and has tons of children's stories arranged by genre, such as Fantasy, Adventure, Chapbooks, ABC's, Picture Books, Fairy Tales, etc. The introductions to each section are greatly helpful b/c they contain tons of historical background on the type of children's literature. This book would probably be very useful for a teacher, and I would definitely recommend.
Where is Margaret Wise Brown?.......2007-02-26
Although impressed with the breadth and quality of this anthology, as a children's librarian I was shocked to discover that any mention of Margaret Wise Brown is entirely missing. She is a seminal author in Anglo-American children's literature, so much so that even Yale University devoted an entire afternoon's lecture to her at a children's literature conference in 1999. Other, more recent and therefore much less classic or influential authors are included in this anthology; therefore, surely there is room for Wise Brown as well. Other than this rather gaping hole, this is a fine representation of the body of children's literature through the centuries with well-written historical remarks.
